Thank you, thank you 7 YEARS ON ! As your video and a £2 replacement on/off switch from eBay saved a thrown out Dyson from becoming landfill. More importantly it now gives me a great unit for hoovering my car boot and workshop - as my wife won’t let me near her shiny new Dyson handheld... 👍
Thanks Alec !! I LOVE my Dyson DC 08, but I shipped it to NY from France and noticed that when I plugged it in the plug won't stay down ! I don't want to tape it.. You are a life saver thanks for all these videos ! I know they take time to do ! Just to let you know we appreciate them !
Thanks Alex. You are a great teacher. I'm on the other side of the world otherwise I would buy from you every time just to give you the custom you deserve. Thanks again.
Thanks for the excellent tutorial. Dyson Australia tried to tell me that parts were no longer available for this model and that I should throw it away and buy a new one. Fixed with a $16 part in 10 minutes.
Thank you so much for taking the time to comment, it does take a bit of time to make the videos (longer to edit and upload) but I love helping people. Hope your machine runs for many years to come :)
Hi Scott, What you have to do is grab a multi meter and test the continuity from the plug to the switch (on both wires) and also test the switch. If you have got power going to the motor but it is not working then swap out the motor. IF you do not know how to use a multi meter for this then there should be a video on UA-cam under "How to test a cord for continuity"
Thanks for your video. Is this the same for a DC11? Look forward to hearing from you. Picked one up off the road and if it's the switch I'll have a fully working one for two to three pounds.
Hi Alec, thank you very much for all the tutorials. Please let me know if the power switch the same for DC11? My DC11 power switch ia not working - cannot turn on/ off. Have to use main power switch to turn on and off. Appreciate your help. 😀
Great easy to watch video. Would really appreciate some feedback on 2 questions. 1. is this video good as a guide for other dyson models? If the switch is turning the motor on but the motor turns off when you let go of the switch, do you think this is a problem with the internal switch or the plastic external part of the switch? regardless of a response really helpful video. cheers mate!
Thanks, Thanks, Thanks !!! (and thanks for mikat64's help too... I didn't know you could put a drop of oil on a on/off switch !). My Dyson DC08 works again without a load on the switch all the time... Great tutorial, very useful.
Hello Alec: I like your videos. Do you have a schematic of the motor driver for the Dyson motor? The schematic should have one or more FET bridges and perhaps diodes. I am interested in the details of how the coils switch and their relationship to the rotor. Thanks in advance, Art Wagner
DC09 power switch is also apparently a cut out switch if it needs a good clean. To re-set the power switch, turn the unit off. Push switch down and let it snap up fast hearing a clunk. Do this 10 times. I fixed one today. Took 30 seconds. This may not work all the time yet worked today. Try this before you disassemble. and spend money. Apparently this fix comes from Dyson themselves. I thought it was all rubbish until today when it worked seamlessly for me.
your all videos are very informative. we can save lot of money. can u please upload video how to change power cord and motor in dyson dc26 city and dyson dc25. Thanks
Hi, I have a Dyson DC19 that doesn't work anymore. It just stopped at once. After a while I've tried it again and the motor ran for about 1 sec and then stopped completely. I have checked the switch and wiring to the motor and that is all OK. It might be the brushes or the motor itself that is defective but how can I check if it is the motor or the brushes? The machine is about 12-15 years old so I don't want to make a lot of expenses by trying to replace several parts as in "Trial and error" :-)
I just bought a Dyson 8 rootcyclone and ran it then it turned off. I seen canister needed emptying so I finnally figured out how to do that put it back together and it won't turn on. I have 3 days to be able to return it if not working. I need to find out what I need to do to get it running because I don't want to have to return it to the place I bought it. By the way it is a used one but worked great until canister got full. Plz HELP ASAP
Thank you for the video. I have the DC21. I ripped it all apart, tested the switch, which worked. I checked connections at circuit board and still nothing. Is there a fuse or something, I can’t see? Perhaps I can test power from the plug back to the board? Will it power on when not all back in its case because there is something it’s checking for before allowing power? Your video was great and saved me lots of time to rip this thing apart. Hopefully I’ll figure this out and save more landfill. Does anyone know ? I have a Q2 on my circuit board and the little IC looks chipped away on the top and you can see into the middle. Could that be frying it? I’ve got power from wall to board
Scott Liddle I have the same situation. My switch seems fine, did yours work with a new switch? Was it something else or did you throw it away? Thank you
Called Dyson. "We no longer support your model, you can have 25% off a new one". Spend 3 quid on a new switch, boom back in business. Starman thank you.

THANK YOU!!
the switch just needed a drop of oil and works perfect.
Thanks for showing me how to open the machine!!!
Greetings from Vienna

Clear and easy to understand video. Replacing the switch on my DC29 once the part arrives. Thanks.
Thanks for the excellent tutorial. Dyson Australia tried to tell me that parts were no longer available for this model and that I should throw it away and buy a new one. Fixed with a $16 part in 10 minutes.
Mate, thanks for this, just fitted a new switch and our DC08 is like new... awesome video!

Really appreciate this video - thanks! Our Dyson is over 15 years old, for a couple of pounds will be going on for another 15 yearsmaybe!
Very simple instruction and probably saved me a fortune. Thanks very much.

Thanks! Couldn't even work out how to open it, but it is SO simple - guessed it would be! Have a beer on me!

Thank you very much! It took only less than 10 minutes to change the switch.

I have a dyson that does not work. There is no power. Can it be the switch or is the motor fried?
