When the frogging is more fun than making the project, you know you’ve made the right decision 😂

I think frogging (without tears) is the first sign of maturing as a knitter. Your sentiment is 100% spot on. ❤

Knit what makes you feel good! You’ll get twice the fun from your yarn when you find something else to make with it.

Glad to hear that you work your socks as as you feel like it. Lots of people ask me what pattern I use to make socks. I don't have a pattern I just work what I feel at the time. But always toe up.

Amen sister! It’s ok to frog projects. We make it more complicated than it has to be. For me it has to do with the cost of the project and what am I going to do with the yarn now. Bottom line, I’m 63 years old. If it’s not bringing me joy, I don’t have time for it!! Thanks for sharing!

I enjoy frogging projects. I have a skein of acrylic yarn that I continuously start projects and then frog before finishing. I call it my palette cleanser skein. I've also frogged 2 sweaters and a pair of gloves this year. I have more frogging planned.🐸🐸🐸

Love seeing your projects ; finished or in progress, it doesn’t matter.
With your gentle encouragement I have finished over a dozen pairs of socks this year. Yeah, used up all the Christmas yarns.
Currently working on some simple hats and even a few crowns. Thought knit crowns would be more fun than the paper ones from the Christmas crackers.

I like your idea about a holiday cozy memories blanket! Also I just have to say, I find it so bizzare that people feel like they need to make you feel bad about what you do with your knitting! People can be so silly, you should never feel that you have to justify anything you are doing, especially when you are sharing your time with us for FREE. Keep being you, you are always a joy and inspiration!

So happy you decided to frog your sweater if that is what brought you a sense of relief -- you should feel no pressure from anyone! The cozy memories blanket idea for your Advent knitting sounds perfect -- keep it simple and enjoyable this holiday season. I generally only have two projects on the needles at one time - one larger project like a blanket and one pair of socks for my "portable" knitting, however, I've been dying to cast on more socks -- holiday themed!

I can understand feeling a bit sad seeing a beautiful project get unravelled, but in a way that you quickly move on from. It's so silly to make a big deal out of it and send comments that make people feel bad for frogging it! It's just a sweater after all, and the yarn isn't going to waste. If anything it would be more wasted sitting in your drawer as a sweater you never wear or a project you never finished! I actually think there's a weird pleasure in seeing things get frogged too. Knitting/crocheting are one of the few things where you can undue a finished result and get the composite ingredients back in full form. You can't do that with baking/cooking, can't do that with painting, can't do it with sewing. And frogging reminds us of this very special trait about yarn crafts. So it's actually a pretty great thing imo!

Well Kay, you are a beaver spirit than me. I have a couple items on the needles that I should do the same but I see all my time and effort sitting there needing to be finished. I do like the idea of keeping yourself stress free and starting in a happy place. Even for a short period of time. 😊

I can only handle a few projects at a time but usually end up focusing on one. I always have a pair of socks in my work bag. I have a granny stripe blanket going using leftover sock yarn and then one other project. Of course there are several old WIPs in a tote, but we won't talk about those😊

  • @juliejealous632

I'm with you on the frogging! I don't knit many garments, I prefer socks, toys, and blankets, but last boxing day, I decided to knit myself a cardigan. I completed 75% and then got to a part I just couldn't figure out, I searched UA-cam endlessly and got all different answers! I left it in the naughty corner until last week, and then I pulled it all down! It felt so good! I might try again with a different pattern, or I might just stick to what I know and love! My planned boxing day cast on for this year is a cowl, I've never knit a cowl either, but I want to try, and if I don't get on with it, I'll make socks with the yarn instead! See you next time ❤

All that fisherman’s rib frogged! It’s painful to think about. But more painful to hear how much you were just powering through cause you felt pressured. Even though this is your job you should never feel that you need to churn out certain things for us. Just showing us your process and projects is enough! I’ve knit and frogged the same sweater with the same yarn 4x in the past year. Each time I frogged it it was painful. And there were months and months where I didn’t even want to go near the room where I stored it. I finally figured out the issues I was having (needless size and my first ever chart) and I was finally able to finish it and I love it. But that was my journey with that sweater. Everyone’s looks different. And we’re here to see yours no matter what that looks like. So no pressure! Gorgeous projects as always and can’t wait to see your next video! 💜

I totally get the sweater frogging. Especially with that color, the yarn could easily be used for other items that you enjoy making. I've had projects that 10k people have made and raved about and I either couldn't grasp it or didn't like it. About 15 years ago, many were making Drop in the Pond crocheted afghans. I love the look, but I could not get it and ended up hating it. Not my thing and I don't want to waste more time trying to get it right. Love the prayer shawl.

I fully support frogging projects that are not enjoyable or that feel like they’re draining creativity. This was something that was hard for me to learn at first, but as a long-time knitter, there are too many things I want to work on! So I’m glad you decided to frog a project that was not bringing you joy!
I also appreciate your view on working on a couple projects at a time and not overwhelming yourself. I have had so many things going that I get burnt out or feel like I’m never going to get done, so I have made myself stop casting on new projects until I have either finished a project or at least gotten a lot of progress. It helps me stay motivated to finish things.
Thanks for sharing! I enjoy your podcast so much!

It is so refreshing to hear truthfulness about creative endeavors. I try and push through the “no joy” thinking the joy would come when the project was completed. It has taken a long time to give myself grace and to say it’s ok to not finish whatever project is not making me happy. Thank you for your transparency. That is as inspiring as all your gorgeous items you have shared with all of us.

love that you frogged it! I did a KAL for. a sweater and I hated everything about that experience . From the knitting bullies to everything else. I got home one night and dropped it and kicked it behind the house and left it there. The next day there was a chimpmunk in it! I dusted it off and when back the next week and kept working on it. I finally finished it and despise it and I can think of nothing more than cutting into a million pieces. It;s been years and thats all I still want to do with it🤣. it was such an awful negative horrible experience all around and there is hate in every stitch. I even stopped knitting for quite awhile after that. I've made multiple sweaters before and since. I should have frogged on day 1!!!

Your discussion of frogging your sweater really hit home with me! I just finished a beautiful sweater using a discontinued Cascade yarn (Luminosa). I did a swatch but wasn't sure I had enough yarn to do the sweater, so my swatch was really little. When I finished the sweater and washed it, it turns out that it's too big. I'm trying to decide whether to frog it (yikes!), wear it as is, or put it in the washing machine to see if I can shrink it. I'm toying with knitting a large swatch and washing the swatch in the washer to see how well it shrinks. Right now the sweater really doesn't bring me joy (except that the yarn is sooooo soft and cozy) and you've given me the courage to do whatever I need to do to make the sweater fit.
