You're reffering to a Cast into the Fire situation in round one I guess. It is because if an opponent taps targeted land in response, he will have that mana floating only until the end of the draw phase (ready for counterspell for example) so then you can play creature removal safe in your first main phase and attack with your creatures. Otherwise you could end up without an attack with your small creatures since the opponent would counter the Journey to Nowhere in the first main phase or you would play it during the second main phase and miss the attack.

Why don't you play smash to dust instead of cast into the fire? I know that smash is a spell but it doesn't perform better when it comes to morored kuldotha? or some decks like affy gliters?
