    Great episode! So much great info on the engine itself and especially the flow bench! So cool to see it in action, first time for me.
    Ideally, you want to go with bigger injectors once you get to about 90% duty cycle. Above that, the fuel doesn't atomize properly and won't burn as well. You can see it when Eric runs them fully open, it's just three streams, instead of a mist. You need that mist as fuel doesn't burn as a liquid, but a gas, or miniscule droplets.

      just to clarify the ejectors where probably fine. the real lesson here is to read your injector size lmao and make sure your fuel system is clean before you use new injectors. bigger injectors run more rich then smaller ones lol imagine that.

    • @phuzz00
      @phuzz00 2 роки тому +1

      You can spend more money and get 'flow matched' sets, where they basically test them like this before they sell them, and you get the results so that you know all your injectors are running at (eg) 165. ie, what they actually flow, not just what the manufacturer said.

    I installed a brand new one Edelbrock pro Flo 4 with full 8 port injection and had 3 dead cylinders because of dirty injectors that were completely stuck. Man your heart sure sinks when your brand new $2500 EFI system runs your motor like chitty chitty bang bang. 9v battery, cleaner, and air compressor got it up and ripping. Golden information in this video.

    I bought a injector flowtester with heated ultra sonic on alibaba for like 160$, AUtool CT160. Kept sticking open injectors on my supra. Seems to work well enough. Flows 4x 800CC injectors at like 35psi and you can vary the pulse width and 'rpm' independently with a whole bunch of different auto clean programs. The ultra sonic alone was worth it because I rebuild a few moto carbs every few months. Whole thing is basically a cubic foot, volume wise, so would be epic for something like drag week.
    Would highly recommend it or one like it if you mess with injectors at all.

    I've cleaned some injectors in the past with an ultrasonic cleaner.
    And then I hooked a plastic tube to the input end, filled the tube with seafoam, set my compressor to my fuel pressure, hooked a 9v battery to the terminals to open the injector and blew the seafoam through.
    Probably not ideal but for a backyard kinda guy like me I've never had an issue.

    • @Joe.Doucette
      @Joe.Doucette 2 роки тому +4

      I didn't have an ultrsonic cleaner but I did a similar thing as you using Seafoam and a fuel pump instead of the compressor. Told me right away which ones were plugged or dead and got some cleaned up enough to get a street truck running.
      Like you say... backyard fix that works good enough for me.

    Lots of good information as always. I've dealt with a few junkyard LS engines and always seem to have injector issues. I got an inexpensive little device from Amazon that can pulse injectors individually, and have found that tool very valuable. Sometimes all it takes for one to go from not working to working is a few bangs on the workbench. I have made it part of the routine now to use that little box to check them before first fire.

    about 10 years ago, on the top of Hale Mt. Alabama, we back flushed and cleaned a set of injectors out of a big block buggy, using assorted size hose, spray carb cleaner, a tank of nitrogen(we brought for charging shocks and air bumps), a set of jumper wires, one guy touching the wires to a battery pulsing the injector, and about 5 other guys holding everything together. wasnt the best way to get it done, but it worked. I now have an injector cleaner and flow bench in my shop

  • @buckstarchaser2376
    @buckstarchaser2376 2 роки тому

    That's gotta be very satisfying to see verification of the problem and settle your mind. Also, I think the reason the boost was down while the power was up is likely going to be from the cooling effect of evaporating fuel in the compressor. It's also likely that the alcohols, which are lower-boiling, will flash off first, leaving some of the heavier oily fractions of the fuel to get a momentarily-better seal on your intake valves (or lubricate the runners to let the air slip through (ha ha)). The pressure is going to make the oily fractions of the fuel linger like a fog, when the short chains evaporate off, and the end result should be really good at cheating a some extra octane out of your fuel.

      One day I’m gonna build a smaller flow bench so I can keep checking these things. They sit around too long with fuel in them and that isn’t helping.

    I didn’t realize that fuel injectors were sensitive like this, Nor did I even think that they would flow differently due to something as simple a dirty fuel line. This puts perspective on something I’ve been trying to understand for awhile.

    Excellent video,glad you guys were able to make it so informative. Started my morning contemplating paying to have my 1150 dominators split since I need to fabricate a new top for the tunnel ram anyway but now really considering an E.F.I. setup. Happy to see you getting problems ironed out on the 55. Keep up the great work. 👍

    Hey Finn just wanted to mention something that might help. The closer the injectors are to the cylinders the better it is for power since the evaporating fuel pulls out heat. That’s why direct injection has a greater power potential compared to port injection. Intake air temps obviously have an impact as well but in terms of the fuel path the technical term is latent heat of vaporization. That’s one of the mechanisms that the better fuels like E85 and methanol bring to the table over regular gasoline.
