With the new FaceLift Stihl takes the leap to the top in the popular pro 50cc class in weight / power ratio. The new saw has lost 300 gram and increased power with 0,1 kW.

Without a doubt the best GP saw on the market. It’s perfect match is the 16 inch Light bar in my opinion because that makes it quick agile and powerful enough to fell limb and buck anything most people will ever tackle. The 251 and 271 are absolutely brilliant saws for homeowners farmers and homesteaders and the 261 is probably overkill for most users in terms of price and features but it a real gem.
I own the Stihl MS 261 C-M.
I run a 20" bar typically, and have had ZERO issues whatsoever with the saw.
Three months or so of owernship, mainly bucking fallen trees and cutting logs.
Little bit of blocking for sculpture work and tons of firewood.
I'd recommend the saw to anyone that's into chainsaw work or a fan of quality professional grade equipment.
Hell, I even Alaskan Mill smaller medium sized logs with a quality ripping chain. Saw stands up, and stands out!
Painted all my orange black though, with a rough texture Plasti dip.
Jag har båda. Använder den ena med 13" svärd till kvistning och den andra med 15" svärd till fällning och kapning. Har använt båda i skogen mycket i 3 år och skulle har svårt att skilja på dem om jag blundade. Trots cylindern låter dem väldigt lika. 261 är an bra såg med bra kraft för vikten.
At the time 13;50, the new version sounds like it is breaking up or not quite firing at high RPMs, the old model sounds more solid, and consistent.

Great video, going to get me a 261 here in the next month or so. Not a big fan of the M-tronic.
I have a 2013 MS261, no M-tronic same saw as 2015 but mine has 3 adjustment jets-idle, 3 holes in the upper cover. It is a good saw, but a little heavy.

the new edition seems to be almost like a copy cat of the husqvarna 550 xp. the cylinder design is similar and it sounds a bit more grunty like a husqvarna
that's what I thought when I saw the top cover, I wonder if it has one piston ring like the 550xp

Old is the best
Stay away from Stihl 261. My Stihl 261 broke down after only 3 years of cutting firewood. Stihl said it was my fault because I didnt use the Stihl oil and alcylat gasoline! 026 was a much more robust saw and I had one for allmost 20 years and used shell oil and 95 gas mixed 2%. Not happy with the Stihl 261 and Stihl support.

Every single mass produced item is going to have a dud in them somewhere. No reason to run around like a child bad mouthing the entire product.

Too lean, too little oil, dirty filters, etc. You can spoil the saw many ways. I fguess my saw would also fail if I would 3 years without any stops.....
