  • Brother Scan n Cut Tutorials: In this video, we show you how to convert SVG format files into the correct format for using on your Brother Scan n Cut machine.
    The Brother Scan n Cut machine doesn't read SVG files so you need to use the Brother scan n Cut Canvas online software tool to convert the files to .fcm format files. You can access the Brother Canvas software here: scanncutcanvas....

    You can save your file straight from scan N cut canvas to a USB on windows 8. Just right click and then click on safe as. Then find you USB. Thanks for sharing. I learn so much from these video's.

      Doreen G Yes and you can do the same with a Mac which is great. Personally I like to save them to my computer first only because I have a tendency to lose USB's or I delete everything off them to clear space sometimes. But in future videos I will mention that you can save directly to a USB as well because a lot of people may prefer to do that.

    Hi Paula, Thank you so much for that, I have only had my CM 350 for 24 hours, it is a preloved one, just loving it so far! this was a great tip, TFS, Cheers Anna.

    You really help, but I am still confused , but I will keep trying and thank u. One thing that bothers me is the music comes on loud then u are soft spoken that I have to get all that adjusted first. Thanks for help…the younger teachers spit out so much so fast I feel like I am back in grade school trying to learn algebra!

    Once the SVG file is convert to an FCM, what can be done to get rid of double cutting lines/convert them to single cutting lines in the FCM? Are there any shortcut keys in Canvas Workspace to do this?

    Hi awesome video thanks for making things easy to understand. Once I have and svg file and convert it the only way to send it to the brother is with an USB ? I thought it worked wirelessly ? Also if I download an svg file can I edit the image ?

    • @alandacraft
      @alandacraft  6 років тому +3

      Yes, it definitely does work wirelessly but only if you have the ScanNCut 2. The original ScanNCut only allowed for transfer via USB.
      In answer to your second question, do you mean that you want to edit the SVG before converting to a FCM file? If so, yes you can do that in ScanNCut Canvas, although it's only basic what you can do there. You are better off using a program like Photoshop, Illustrator or you can use Inkscape which is free.

    Does the conversion of sgv to FCM still eliminate the double cut lines?

  • @MaryPoggemann
    @MaryPoggemann 5 років тому

    I purchased a Mickey Mouse svg bundle off Etsy. The photos were in beautiful color and I thought the cut file would cut each distinct piece. When I opened the cut files. They were all solid black. So, I changed the fill color to white. What I found when I went to cut was a mess of squiggly lines with no distinct cutting guide. More like a poorly done jigsaw puzzle than a cut file.
    Do you have any suggestions on how I can salvage this mess?

    When you inport svg files do they copy across exactly the same size?

    • @alandacraft
      @alandacraft  7 місяців тому

      Good question. I just went and tested it and it did bring in the file at the exact same size into both Canvas Workspace and the machine itself. However, you can resize it to whatever you like so you could just make edits to it to get it to the size you want.

      This video was recorded back when we only had the CM machines so yes, it will work for your machine.

    Instructions were given too fast. I was trying to take notes but it was impossible without rerunning the video several times. I wanted to follow on my own version of Canvas but it's not the same; things aren't in the same place. Was this video using the web or PC version of Canvas? I downloaded the latest PC version of Canvas last week. Haven't got it yet but I'll keep trying.

      This video was made back in 2015 using the online ScanNCut software. Brother have updated the online version quite a bit since then. We do have plans to do an updated video for this Jean.

    Just to confirm, the ScanNCut machines are fully operational with a Mac computer??

    • @alandacraft
      @alandacraft  8 років тому

      +Fran Grossenbacher Yes definitely Fran. We both have Mac computers and are able to use the machines without any problem. The are really stand alone machines anyway and don't require a computer but even if you use the online Brother Canvas software it will still work with a Mac.

    I tried to bring in a SVG file that I purchased and it said it was larger that 2 mb. How can I change the size?

    • @alandacraft
      @alandacraft  5 років тому

      I'm not an expert on how SVG files are created so not sure I can give you the best advice on this one. You could use an online conversion tool. I just found one now and it reduced an SVG file I had albeit only a little. Here's the link: www.svgminify.com/

    Hi firstly Ill add I love your videos they are so easy to follow. However I am unable to ever choose a file for me to work on, its says error. I have tried to convert them, extract them, unzip them. GRRRRRR driving me crazy, I am sure its simple but i'm struggling haha. Any advice would be welcomed.

    • @alandacraft
      @alandacraft  7 років тому

      So are you trying to open an FCM file on your computer? If so, you will always get an error message because they cannot be read by the computer. The only way you can view them in order to work on them is to either open them up on your ScanNCut machine or open them up in the online ScanNCut Canvas software.

      Thanks so much. We worked it out. I use the snipping tool and image tracing and now ive got it. Would love to see a video on how to resize the image from the canvas and make lines wider etc. Again thanks for all your support!

    Hi Alandra I have an SVG file in my computer I followed it steps up to the download button and I keep getting the error S09 which says the pattern could not be imported. What am I doing wrong any advice would be welcome

    • @alandacraft
      @alandacraft  6 років тому

      Some SVG files do this for some reason. What I normally do is bring the file into Photoshop or Inkscape and immediately save the file again as an SVG. Then it usually works.

  • @shericreates

    Mine said “No objects could be imported”. I worked in Photoshop and they saved as svg. Cant open up any of my work. Guess it’s not my day.
