- 9 ways to prepare banana leaves before cooking - how to prepare banana leaves for cooking from my Filipino cooking channel.
In Filipino and Asian cooking banana leaves are used for cooking and serving food but before you can use the banana leaves, you need to prepare them before cooking by wilting the banana leaves.
In the Philippines, we love serving food on a banana leaf and there is a famous sticky rice cake dessert known as Suman that is cooked in a banana leaf.
Boodle fight in the Philippines is a meal that dispenses with cutlery and dishes. Diners instead practice kamayan, Filipino for "eating with the hands" and banana leaves are always used for boodle fights in serving the food.
In this video I show you 9 ways to prepare banana leaves before cooking, from harvesting the banana leaves in our garden, cutting the banana leaves to size, before showing you how to prepare the banana leaves for cooking.
By wilting the banana leaves before cooking or for food serving the banana leaves become more pliable, so I show you 9 different ways to wilt a banana leaf.
Within this video on preparing banana leaves before cooking I let you know the names of the different parts of a banana leaf and how to remove the banana leaf from the Banana plants.
I also explain that wilting the banana leaf not only makes it more pliable but can be done before placing it in a freezer for banana leaf preservation.
Banana leaves are so versatile in that not only are they used in Filipino and Asian cooking but they can also be used as building materials and as a natural parchment paper.

This is how banana leaves is prepared in Africa for cooking, wrapping, serving etc. One Four Six like my sis what an Awesome 10: 49 minutes well spent enjoying this banana leaves preparation . which side do u use , the shiny side or under side. al u dont wash? Also I followed and did Pasteles Puertoriquenos, The leaf smells like leaf and left strong taste on the pastel> I notice your final product is like brown and not a green leaf. Am I supposed to wilt till brown?
