How to Remove Fuel Tank Ford Maverick

In this video I show how I removed the fuel tank in my 1971 Ford Maverick
The carriage bolts were rusted out so removal may differ on yours

Can you remove the neck without removing the tank. My tank is good but the neck has an issue.

It may be possible but tough to remove the neck without lowering the tank, the neck on mine was a pretty tight fit into the tank seal

Yes you have to unclip the speedometer cable, I was able to get my hand through the ashtray slot (removed ashtray cover and ashtray metal tray first) its a really tight fit and you will scrape your arm up for sure but once you get your hand on the speedometer cable you'll feel where it mounts to the guage cluster

Is it possible to use a 70 mustang sending unit?? For the ford maverick?

I believe it will fit but be aware of the reading being slightly off due to the tank size difference and the connection will vary as well, maverick has a 2 post connector and mustang has 1 post. So you will likely have to run the signal wire to the sending unit and ground it elsewhere

Yes it will be different, yours will probably be a tank that doubles as the trunk floor
