In its day, the Maverick was the most warranty-free car ever built by Ford. Simple, proven drivetrain options, whereas the Mustang in the same era (and predecessor Mustangs) were one of the most warranty prone repair cars every built by Ford. Would like to see a resto-mod version, the body has all the bones to make "Italian-like".
As a restorer of mavericks and an owner of a 74 Grabber one of 186 made with my color combo and options I agree. 10 grand is way outside that cars price. When I got mine it had 97K original for 2,800 out of a garage!
My Mom had that exact same model Ford Maverick Grabber in that exact same color combination inside and out. She babied that car and it was mint back in the early 80's.
I had a 73 grabber orange and white with orange interior !! Loved that car bought it new in 73 for $3200 dollars ,,,302 auto,,and the brakes did suck !! Ended up making a pro street car !! Called it the "sleeper" !!!
People are asking the most ridiculous prices for Mavericks. Heck they want ridiculous prices for any old car. Please leave the Maverick alone. It's the last classic that people can half afford.
My first car was a 74 Maverick and I'm building a custom early 70 Maverick which is often also called a (69.5 Early cars) had the ignition on the dash not the steering column. 69.5 to 72 Mavericks had small sporty bumpers like early mustangs. Richard is wrong the 73 is not the holly grail of grabbers. In 73 the front bumper got bigger Then even bigger in 74 along with the rear bumper. However Brazil and Mexico never had to go to the larger bumpers.
@@efra_olivar I don't know about Venezuela However in North America the 73 still had a small rear bumper but on the front is a lager size (used only in 73). Its larger than 69.5 -72 models but still smaller than 74-77 I know Brazil never had large bumpers and possibly Mexico aswelI. If you compare the side profile of a 73 Maverick to a 74-77. The bumper on the 74-77 is clearly larger.
I bought a 73 Maverick Grabber new in 73. It cost $3200. It had a 302 V8 and it did have a little snot. Don't forget, it was 500 lbs lighter than a Mustang or Camaro. I'm not saying it was faster than any Mustang or Camero, but if they had similar engines, like a 302 Mustang, or a 307 Camaro, it could beat them.
Great find Richard love those cars .headliner, wheels, touch up paint ,spoiler , I'd own that but you got good cash on that thing . solid cars like that all dsg long
Shame on Richard taking advantage of the woman. You know if there was another person even standing around that price would've been way lower, he wouldn't have said that price in front of Dennis and that's why Dennis is known as a class act and Richard is just a clown in the car world.
How the fck is that the closest match 5:10 ?? E1843 was the one, you can't see the hole in the middle, as it matches. Someone sack Mike already, geez .
i dont care what they say,,,,mavericks are cool and owned many of them over the years..and the maverick is more closely related to the mustang then the pinto ...the only thing that maverick and pinto share are the rear tail lights ,,and thats about it ...mavericks rock
He totally screwed her on the price... Typical Gas Monkey... I do believe tho that those are going to be worth some big bucks in the not-so-distant future.
Mavericks were not cool cars back then :-) And what the dude said about them being close to a Pinto is right. Most of them had brown plaid interiors and way too many were an ugly cream colour. But, put a V8 in them and you can have some serious fun. Giddyup ! 🙂

I Hope this $10,000 price was just an error in the script and should have been $5,000, just to be realistic. Do they really buy and sell cars anymore or are they simply trying to cash in on the popularity of their ex-TV show ? Is there such a thing as an actual Gas Monkey garage anymore ? This is just one big UA-cam blog now. No TV crew or studio; cost a fraction of producing a TV show. It's lo budget.
First car I ever own was an AMC Matador. Mine had a vinyl top and V6 that was totally reliable. Had the car when I met, dated and then married my wife - been married now 40-yrs and we still laugh at how I use to sneak kisses by telling her we had to let the car warm up when first started. A few years back she confessed she knew it was only a ploy to keep kissing her.
So what happens when the 2 year old grows up and by time she hits 16 doesn't want a maverick nor even cares or even remembers picking the car out of some toy hot wheels? And don't give me that crap that she should just be thankful for what she gets.
4xs what they cost new, 2500-4500 tops new. If she really paid 10 grand he should be out in jail for ripping her off. I'm sure he says I sleep like a baby at night not thinking he's done any wrong but he over charged her at minimum 3500-4000. Taking advantage of what was a sweet story but now she'll always have the well I let gas monkey overcharge me but oh well

I paid $1,200 for my Maverick and it's almost showroom floor pristine. Thanks Richard for bringing up the market value of my car!
Right! that's what I said. Thanks Richard. I've got a 74' 1 of 186 ever made with my paint and options.
there is no flipping way Richard sold that car for 10 grand !

The magic of TV. 10 grand for that pile ? Nah.
