@@livingforalivingRV Well the why is no secret. The when depends on if you want to tell your age🤣. I went to West Branch the week I turned 62 to get my pass. I got it for the bargain price of $10.
Great advice. I also try to watch video tours or the places we want to go visit to pick the perfect place and site. I started to make videos of the places we visit to help others too.
That's a great idea - I usually only make a video if the place is above average. Our last campsite was pretty good, but it was cold and windy and I couldn't enjoy any of it... so no vid.
The problem is that for RV'ers who have older (15+ years) RVs are being turned away due park/campground policies. I have a '98 Pace Arrow and in pretty good shape but was told that it was not welcome in all but 1 campground in Henrico, Hanover, Spotsylvania and Staffed counties. Like others have said older locations may not be updated or as prestine or as level. A least it's a place to hang you hat and maybe a wire for a day or two. Or in my case 4mo, while looking for a new property in VA.
I have heard of that, but nobody has ever asked us or complained. Ours is a 2017, but they don't really look that much different than older models ( I mean its a box with swooshes on the side, right?). I have heard of some people with "classic rigs" sending in pictures to prove that their rig isn't hot garbage (and I have seen some hot garbage). What state are you running into this problem?
@@livingforalivingRV here in Virginia but I have seen it in other places also. Though my father has a 2003 and has had it at a place in Glenwood NM for about 10 years and no issues.
Catch 22, can't upgrade the park without money, no money because the park is cheap. But more than that it shows a lack of care, no one is minding the shop.
Omg, that pretty bad, definitely need a couple of boards to sort the level issue. Not a great park, honest review of a park in need of attention. Be safe David (VK2AAW)😊
This was an Army Corp of Engineers site - they are weirdly owned/maintained. Apparently the Army owns the land and maintains the dam and the rest is run by (somebody else)
the park for a budget . some times you get a $9 night park. I played much more for a park that was trash. never went back. that that I got much better free camping parks. some are a POTA park. I seen a park that had great reviews so we booked it. got their and was not so nice . was $22 night. broken bath house. water did not work. and was mid summer. never went back. they may delete bad reviews or wright their own reviews . makes me wounder who wright the reviews ? their idea of a good park may not be mine.
yeah, no complaints for a $9/night park... but if I would have looked ahead, I could have seen the un-level sites and made a different decision. Lesson learned.
@@livingforalivingRV I learned not to trust the reviews. after reading good ones and get their thinking wrong park . but when reviews are not so great mostly means that. what I learned
Campgrounds are like a box of chocolates. You never know what you'll get till get into one.
But yeah, COE and senior pass equal big savings.
Soon enough I'll get that senior pass. I can't tell you how or why, but soon enough!

The secret is who's age it is ;-)
Plenty of room for an EFHW, so you've got that going for you 😎
Yeah, I had lots of room for lots of antennas. We had a campsite that backed up to an open area of the park between roads.
"Trashy Trash" - Love the visual. Godspeed outta there.
It was a very interesting place

Corps of Engineers dam is usually Corps of Engineers park. No real funding.
That's a scary thought!

I haven't been out east yet, heading to VA later this year I'm sure. My wife always talks about it, but its never been a problem for us.@@kc5cnt

They were doing a little at a time, but it has been taking a long time to do the upgrade.

Thanks David! They can't all be winners, and we now have a way to tell!
Looks like a county park, Lacking open days funding? Scott I think its a great park! seen worse and not time for summer work for kids.

@@livingforalivingRV I understand, ACE its not Army but Army Core of Engineers not the same thing. They make Dam's, flood walls, waterways.
Got it!
It’s worth $2/night.
At least!
So, the park is supposed to be a post-apocalyptic experience? Kind of?
I didn't see any more zombies than usual.
3285 a year. Do they allow full time? I could buy a cheap 5th wheel and have someone drop me off there. Where is this BTW?
I don't know if they allow full time. This one was in TX - I don't want to "out" them though, it was nice enough and my stay was fine.

That’s a terrible place to camp at. I’d have gotten a refund and found some other place to setup.
Somehow I'm surprised your standards are higher than mine!
@@livingforalivingRV oh they are not. My wife's standards on the other hand...
