    This is by far the best DIY Magsafe repair! Thank you for showing what to do with the rubber cable stopper 😍

    I know this is an old video, but seeing how you open the power supply case without tearing it up is brilliant. I am always repairing these things due to shorts, but always had a very hard time opening the plastic case.
    Thank you so much.

    Just want to thank you for inspiring me to fix my own charger (macbook pro). Its not a great job I did, but it works for the mean time. Thank you sir!

    Thanks for the tutorial, I damaged my charger ( and my arms ) quite a bit using this method, as mine was really really well stuck together, not big deal it's only aesthetics :)
    Now it works 100% of the time not 85%

    I go through 1 charger for my Macbook 2012 version every 1.5 years. I buy the $20 Amazon chargers, and I have one Genuine Apple charger that I don't use (saving as a last resort). Today my $20 charger finally broke from extensive fraying, and I had a backup $ 20 charger brand new, but this time I just added heat shrink tubing to the area that usually frays as a preventative, hopefully it will work and give me longer use.

    Apple's expensive chargers have been most enraging examples of planned obsolescence for more than a decade. It's absolutely not actual wear and tear that causes this defect, it's exclusively the design and calculated material choice.

    HI, my girlfriend dropped water in her iBook power supply. When I test he output voltage is ok, 24V and the light turn on, the Amps read almost 0. What should I test to try to repair it? If I connect the cable on the notebook, it blinks once then turn off....
    Thank you

    Hi, i bought a used Magsafe 85w A1343 for a few bucks that should give 18.5v 4.6a or 16.5v 3.6a, i am able to solder but i don't know much about electricity. I tried to put my multimeter in continuity and got no reaction at all while doing your test. Then i plug the magsafe into the wall, to test the voltage but I only got 0.70 v on my multimeter set on 20v, that does not seem right, do you have any idea what is wrong?

      @ after playing with the wire a bit I can the macbook to turn on but the green light on the wire doesn't come on and it doesn't charge the battery.
      Would it require a similar repair?
      Thanks.

    i need to know where the negative lead is soldered to the circuit board. mine appears to have no evidence of where it was attached.

    Is the small pin in the middle ground? Mine popped out trying to fix the the connection

    • @FrancescoF
      @FrancescoF  7 років тому

      Rombout Versluijs no, the center pin is a data connection that controls the indicator light and tells the Mac the type of adapter you're using.

      Francesco Ferretti yes I found a scheme which tells me the middle is for the led. 2 outer ones are ground and 2nd outer ones are plus and min. Still hope I will get mine working as the center pin and little spring came out of the housing

    Я когда лужу провод экрана использую медицинский зажим, чтобы отводил тепло, а то центральная жила может сварится с экраном.

    An hour? I left mine for at least a day and the damned thing still bit me! I suspect Apple have omitted a discharge resistor due to it being a sealed unit that they wouldn't expect anyone to be cracking open.

    • @FrancescoF
      @FrancescoF  7 років тому +2

      Actually the charger is not made by Apple, it's usually made by LiteON, Samsung or Delta, and each of them has a different internal design. considering the amount of electronics that's inside, it's possible that they didn't have room left for bleeding resistors. I also got bit a couple of times with the old "T-shape" 60W units, they have the primary switching mosfet on the edge, exactly where you'd grab it for extracting the board from the case.

      No, that's there just for weight (a friend of mie gave it to me for free because it's crap), I actually use Multicore 60/40

    I would like to see more board level repair; mine is dead also with a new cable. You should improve your content ;)
    And second hint: I want to replace the weak cable by a sillicon cable as in your fluke probes, that would be a decent fix and upgrade.

    • @FrancescoF
      @FrancescoF  7 років тому

      I do board level repairs, but usually not on magsafe chargers for (minor) safety reasons. Also 99% of failures are caused by dead cables, so when I find a charger with a dead board I usually remove the cable and solder it to another one. Just as a tip, one component that often shorts on the board is the rectifier diode on the secondary, it's usually either that, a blown fuse (on the input or output) or a blown regulator IC, in this last case don't even waste your time dealing with it.
      A silicon cable would be a great replacement, they also make coaxial versions just like the one Apple uses. Sadly I can't think of a way to make a clean connector end while using an original Magsafe connector. (Apple does not license the connector to third-party vendors so all the non-Apple connectors are clones).

    Hey, great video. unfortunately, i removed the the old cord and rather
    foolishly did not take note of which side the white cable went into. Is
    there a way to work this out, i have watched many videos and the circuitry looks different. Please see the following screenshots: drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B5DDuYWnVxxPQmdYRlEzRk5ja1k
