  • Fashion photographer April Alexander will take us through her decision-making process when color grading her photos, helping you take your own color grading to the next level.
    In addition, she’ll show us how taking the same image in a couple of different directions can open up a discussion around "what looks best" and whether there is more than one option for any given image.

    i hoped to see someone who knows where he wants to go with the image.
    April seems to play around until she finds a look she likes. thats what we all do more or less. so this was not really helpful.
    she is a great fotographer, no doubt, but for an editing tutorial, i wish to see someone who knows what he wants to achieve with the photo before the edit , and then knows how to get there.

      Hi Martin. I've sat with many photographers who have this exact same process of experimentation and trying out different looks until something sits "right". There are even photoshop plugins acting like a "roulette" wheel giving multi colour grading options... so in reality this often the process. Have a scan back through the channel here for livestreams with Emily Teague (similar process), Zoe Noble and Jan Wischermann with Ava Pivot. They may give you some further inspiration. /David

      Hi Martin, Thanks so much for your comment! I like to show photographers that you do not always have to have a specific idea of how to colour grade but the fun is in the discovery and journey through colour grading. another reason why I love capture one. A lot of the time I'll have a mood board before a shoot with the type of editing style I'd like to achieve but even then, you still need to play around until you get the desired result! :) hope this helps and thank you for tuning in! xx

    April seems like a lovely girl, but not even close enough for a CaptureOne spot light tutorial. She has only been shooting for a couple of years and hardly professional by any means. The final image was way to green and there was a lot of fumbling around with the adjustments that actually made the image look worse IMHO. Not trying to be rude, But I could not help commenting bc it was tough watching the video to tell you the truth. I am sure with lot's of practice she will be a great photographer. I good practice for "proper" skin tones even if your monitor is not calibrated is to measure the Skin tones averages either in CaptureOne or later with the dropper tool in photoshop which is an old school technique but usually never fails. The green in RGB or the C in CYMK was way too much in the images for sure, specially for a dark skin model. I great live show would be with a fashion or Commercial photographer and a live shooting session and how they make folders for clients, organize each look and shooting tethered on the spot live. For me personally shooting tethered with capture is indispensable on my shoots. And is where it really shines on photoshoots.

      Hello 👋🏾 being a professional photographer has nothing to do with the amount of years you have been photographing. Tyler Mitchell shot for American Vogue’s September issue at the prime age of 23. I think what you might be missing is that this live was to show the infinite possibilities of how to colour grade your images and to explore and have fun with it. Again, there aren’t right or wrong ways of colour grading however there are personal choices and style and capture one is there for you to discover this for yourself regardless of your skill set. I could have quite easily undertook a very simplistic colour grade on the images but I wanted to show certain techniques I use in my photography that gets me booked for paid commercial and fashion work. Clients pay for your style, not for what others think is right or wrong. Have fun and think outside the box on your next shoot, you may surprise yourself! Thanks for your support! xx

      @@ByAprilAlexander Thanks, I know,I have been shooting professional Fashion, Commercial and Advertising for over 28 years now. I am also an ex-model, so I understand, you will probably make it faster in the business due to your Modeling experience. My comment was not meant to be offensive, so I hope you did not take it that way. Wish you all the success in the world.

    Is this livestream a joke? I surely would love to hear from someone who knows capture one that it’s not. Pretending to be working on the skin when your target is mainly set to green? Capture One has broadcasted strange livestream before but this one is from another world. Everyone can surely have its own aesthetics as long as they know what it means and understand at least the basics. Maybe I’m the one going insane (that is possible)

    • @ByAprilAlexander
      @ByAprilAlexander Рік тому +1

      Hi Ludovic, you can also target undertones in the skin with Capture One, which is what I was exploring for this particular image. Nevertheless, thank you for your comment! xx

      @ludo1632 Рік тому

      @@ByAprilAlexander skin undertones are cool, warm, or neutral. If green appear on the skin it’s a color cast. My first reply was a critique for the people at Capture One who through discrepancies in context and lack of clarity are misinforming people. Probably due to lack of preparation. If this video was presented by you on your channel, it would be different. Thank you for your time

      @@ludo1632 i feel you may be slightly misinformed as can have a green undertone in your skin tone which equates to a “warm tone”. Yes the backdrop can affect how your skin appears which is again, why I was targeting these tones to help bring about the mood I was looking for, for this particular livestream. People edit in different ways to achieve different or sometimes even similar results, it does not mean it’s incorrect. This livestream was to show many that there are varying ways to edit and that you should enjoy exploring the programme. No there wasn’t a lack of preparation on Capture One’s side but using their platform superbly to greatly support up coming artists such as myself. Thank you for watching and good luck with your colour grading journey! xx

      @@ByAprilAlexander yes, sadly, we are all misinformed. Wish some specialist from Capture One is reading our comments and can confirm your theory on green skin undertone. Thank you and good luck to you too.

      I guess your saying when working with skin green should not be used as it isn’t correct!? Whatever she wants to do is on her particularly if this isn’t a class about color and skin accuracy. Also if capture one’s live was based on correct skin tone what you mention would make sense. To me this is just a artist editing style that’s it.
