Hi Andrew, First of all I wanna thank you for giving me enough confidence to open my laptop and fix it by myself. Actually I have a Dell laptop which had some thermal issues and I also wanted to install a harddrive for additional storage. but ofc u know these companies give these kind of services for high prices so I ordered the parts myself, watched your videos to get information and did the job myself and gotta say my laptop is in way better shape now. So thank you again. Also I wanted to ask you the name of the songs u used in this video.
We need people like u in India .........big thumbs up man atleast u dont scam common people in throwing away vintage electronics and hats off to ur knowledge about all the hardware specs and DIY things . Inspired by you completely. Wish u were here in India could have saved my PS4 & Xbox one from throwing away
You sir are a genius this was for sure some of your best work. I am genuinely amazed at your attention to detail and the level of care you put into each product. please keep saving devices for years to come! See you in the next video
You really do great work!!! All of your videos are an awesome learning experience for myself, and really show the craftsmanship that you put into your work. Thanks Again!!!!
Excellent video. However, please have in mind that graphic performance is affected by single/dual channel memory setup. While Intel's iGPU isn't super fast, if you added another stick of RAM (and enable dual channel) Black Mesa would run much much better. All in all, great job and I love watching your videos as it really give some great ideas how to give some new life to once seemingly broken hardware.
My thoughts exactly - single channel RAM (especially when there is a slot free) is never a good idea. Getting an 8GB kit (of 2x 4GB) would resolve this and free up an 8GB module to use in a better laptop - or you could just throw in a second 8GB module, for 16GB total.
The channel is theraputic to be honest. Your videos are long but I dont mind watching becasue the care and time you put to magically fix devices is amazing.
Hi happy to see new video hopeful more videos come know do this takes alot time and work for both but we all love the work you do Thank you Andrew keep up the masterwork you do so well
Hi Andrew, My name Sandesh, I am from India, You have done a awesome job, the laptop is the most hard hardware to fix and repair it. I do look you videos and same implies on my coming laptops which i repairs. Thanks for your videos.
@Cat an Andrew, hi. As always they are excellent videos. That was a cool restoration. There is always something new to learn with each post on the channel. Greetings from Bogota, Colombia
Good work again! I like that old or broken devices are repaired. It is cool to see that there are many people who care about technic stuff and the environment. Greetings
Hi Andrew , you're really great fixing stuffs . I'm from India . I'm watching your videos since last year. Keep doing this we able to learn lot from troubleshooting and repair .
I don't think there's anyone else like you that will restore damaged laptops, like those in serious need of chassis and keyboard repairs, screen swaps, etc. I wish more will pick this up, because it's a waste of money to keep buying new laptops when they break.
Well done for fixing this damaged laptop. At the start of the video, the laptop looked broken beyond repair! I found out by chance how to insert a SO-DIMM memory module perfectly tight: hold it at a high angle, insert into the slot with both thumbs until you hear it "click" into the socket, before gently pushing down on the top of the SO-DIMM until the clips secure it in place.
After 1 year as IT technician in London (which I became thanks to your videos!) I can say that HP makes the WORST quality laptop. The plastics are so poor that I have to fix at least one of them a day for broken hinges; when we don't need to resolder the RAM slot that causes display issue... Even MSI are better, same terrible plastic, but at least the Motherboard is solid and powerful. Then Apple screens...Damn, how many I need to replace due to "random fault" and they are not even cracked. Lenovo and Dell the less bad, especially 2010-2015 models.
MSI laptops are pretty tough if you get a good unit (QC with them is a problem). I fell asleep in my bed and dropped my MSI GS65 on the floor while browsing and it had no bends or scratches as far as i saw and it is working good for now.
Hey, I think there's an issue at 15:20: it seems like you didn't plug the brown flex cable back in but sandwiched it between the housing and the motherboard. I don't know if you noticed and corrected that.
Nice restoration! It's great that you managed to get that case and keyboard into something that didn't look completely squashed and flattened! However, I was expecting you to put more RAM in: HP are well known for using single channel RAM (and keeping a slot empty), which can adversely affect performance. It is always best to go dual channel RAM, so in this example, 16GB (2x 8GB). I also saw a slot for an additional hard drive on the motherboard, so I would have bought the cable and bracket, then added a 2nd storage drive.
i think it would be waste of money anyways since this laptop has no dedictated gpu and it makes the laptop upgrade ways very short, if u added double channel ram and extra hard drive sure thing it would be better but single channel 8 is still enough for web browsing since u cant use this laptop on much more things than that, on the other hand the extra hard drive would be still pretty good improvement for basic work and saving files
@@gts6733 Single channel RAM is never a good idea - if you only want 8GB, you are best off replacing the 8GB module with two 4GB modules, so you still benefit from the extra performance offered by dual channel memory, whilst also salvaging an 8GB stick (looks like DDR4) to use with upgrading a better machine. Having said that, given how Windows 11 is going with memory usage, how programs are using more memory, and how programs such as Skype and Teams are becoming more popular/more of a requirement, you're really just better off future-proofing your device and going for 16GB total - especially how you can get 8GB (either 2x4 or 1x8) for under £20 on eBay in the UK. Adding an extra hard drive would depend on whether you wanted it as a primary machine (do it and get 1TB for £20, or 2TB for under £40, plus however much the cable and bracket is) or whether you wanted it as a secondary machine for light, on the go tasks (don't bother). If it was my machine, it would have 16GB DDR4 (2x 8GB) and 512GB primary SSD + 2TB secondary HDD.
@@TheSpotify95 yeah dual channel would be good option to boost up this machine but i would probably go for eGpu mostly since u cant really go further with intel graphichs, then 2x8 would make it pretty good gaming machine
@@gts6733 even without an external GPU, it is still more beneficial to go for dual channel RAM, because for general purpose use, it is a good and quick upgrade to make (to 16GB total) - or you could change the single 8GB to a pair of 4GB's. That would then free up an 8GB stick for a better computer (with possibly a better GPU for gaming on) so you don't have to spend more money on getting 16GB on a really good computer. I've started to buy laptops on the cheap, to refurbish and/or resell, and RAM management is key to keeping costs down. Single channel memory is not an option.
10:30 I tried replacing individual keys on an old Acer laptop, since there was one key that was a bit problematic. For the life of me, I couldn't get it sorted, so I just replaced the entire keyboard. Given that these new HPs have heat staked keyboards, it really is a no brainer. Replacement top case c/w new keyboard (and trackpad if necessary) would be the only option - especially since this one was damaged too. On this laptop, I'd go for new palmrest/top case (with keyboard) and new lid/hinges (with LCD/display).
@@Master777with69 Yes, but IMO, the plastics in this laptop were too far gone. I'm always suspicious of when motherboards are sold on their own (as most people keep them in their laptop and do up the laptop), but given that this thing needed a new top case, new bottom case, new lid, new LCD and new keyboard, I'd have stripped it for parts and sold on what I could. RAM and SSD are standardized, and the battery model HT03XL fits a wide variety of modern HP laptops.
Andrew is a Legend. Thanks for saving all this stuff
I agree man, so inspirational
The skills, knowledge, and patience is on the God level! Another amazing repair!
