This is relatable. Whatever culture, remembering dear mothers cooking and longing for a distant, simpler time.
Happy St. Patrick's Day!
Their voicing is amazing and Mary's lead is crystal clear but the most amazing thing about this is the cathedral/church-like hall reverb that's on this naturally. The room/stage they're are on was made for recordings like this and it's a perfect setting.
very nice calming
I love this song...great version. I can remember clearly the very first time I heard it was from the singing of the great piper Séamus Ennis at a Fleadh Cheoil Concert in Kilrush in 1963.
why did I just cry......................
You are not the only one..Brings back loads of memories..Still love colcannon especially when it's made with kale
I remember watching this on Gaybo when it was first broadcast. WONDERFUL to see this again! THANK YOU!!!
I play this CD in my car for California boys that I'm driving to an afterschool program. They have no idea what Colcannonis, but the LOVE the song and ask me to repeat it so they can learn the words.
It's kind of like Coleslaw
@@miriamhenry140 Ok. Warmed up potato salad. It's vile either way
@@cornerback4074 wtf 😂
Love it - the tune, the text, and the harmonies.
As an American who loves celtic music (I am over half irish between both sides of my family)I fell in love with this song as soon as I heard it on iheart radio for the first time!
What a wonderful video! This is a favorite song of mine and it is a pure delight to see them actually singing it! Thank you so much.
Still one of the best tracks EVER.
A song that reminds me of a Fleadh Cheoil Concert in Kilrush, County Clare in the early 60's. I was with my late Mum and Séamus Ennis Uilleann Piper was the guest artist..He stopped playing the pipes at one stage and sang this ballad. It was the very first time I heard the song...Go hálainn ar fad.
38 yrs ago hard to believe , goose pimples , hair standing on the back of your kneck,
Mary is hot lol
Such talent , emotion and everything in between.
Interesting that great music can be made from such a trivial topic.
Remembering a simpler time with Nostalgia and your mother's home cooking is trivial? Good memories are what keep your spirits up and make a full life.
loves this song with a passion :-)

Delighted to have found this - fantastic!
'The family that sings together' -- bonafide 'Black Irish'!
Absolutely delicious. Like Colcannon itself.
Look up Linn Mar Show Choir 2022/ 10th Street Edition. They did this song and it is amazing! Such a wonderful tribute 😊

Grand song which I first heard sung by Louise Donlon and Ita O'Donnell!
I remember your shop when I was a boy over 40 yr ago
have this recorded from the late late show. wonderful family.
I'm eating colcannon right now. :)
Different harmonization from the official recording. Maybe the studio can balance things better? Hmmm....I like this version too though!!!
It should be listened while standing!!!!!
This is an old family favourite and I've been searching for mandolin chords for it, unfortunately I cannot read music, so if anyone knows the chords and could share it would be greatly appreciated!!!
Everytime they sing about colcannon, i'm getting hungry.
Any other material by this line up? This is magnificent
super ! auriez-vous la partition de ce chant s'il vous plait ? Catherine cheffe de choeur(France)
I want to have the full sheet music for this with the harmony so I can sing it with some other singers
POTATOES and kale (or cabbage). Search Colcannon in Wikipedia. Can't have it without the taters!
:LOVE the Black Family, As an oul Nordie, sure we never heard tell of Colcannon, we eat champ, now working in Dub have had it, its nice but not like Antrim Champ and Buttermilk, just like the Familys, Family On Rathlin ate for years
I want to marry Mary Black, I'm in love
osiris ayise thats a bit possessive. I'd be happy if she just sang to me every day for the rest of my life.
How's that working out for you? :)

Are those her siblings?
Yes. From left to right: Martin, Michael, Frances, Mary and Shay. Frances also has a music career (though she is Senator right now) and her brothers are in music part time. They also released some albums as The Black Family. You can check it all out via their respective websites: www.black-brothers.com, www.michaelblack.info, www.mary-black.net and www.frances-black.net
