One point not seen when "harvesters" are "taking one for management to control numbers" is some places in NZ are TB endemic, & some of the deer in such places are infected (wild pigs can be riddled). A few sites were avoided by commercial hunters due to the rejection proportion. So the free organic food game management purists harvest & struggle to recover is not always healthy, & its real cost often significantly exceeds what a trip to the butcher would cost to get safe inspected meat. TB is killed by proper cooking, it is probably limited to the TB endemic locations & immediate surrounds shown on the OSPRI website, and it is often evident as infected lymph glands
@@johnmead8437Hi John, you're right, it's always best practice to only harvest healthy animals for consumption for sure. Re- the true cost of harvesting "free organic " I'm certain the "free" is referring to "free range", the cost of any outdoor pursuit is extremely expensive, eg. fishing, hiking, climbing, boating etc. But when the joy, family bonding, exercise, enjoyment of nature and character building is calculated into the cost it in my opinion out weighs the actual dollar cost. Always your comments and insights are valued. Cheers mate, Phil.
A lot of yearling this year and last year have been getting pregnant been finding the same thing well culling she is definitely at least 2 yrs of age Nice easy walk for ya have noticed a lot of small mature deer on the coast in the past definitely fighting for food but no shortage to fill the freezer keep up the good work
Fighting for food?? Have you seen the bush & flats around here? It's just a small deer. Shame you are here in the wet season. It comes right mid december. All the best.
@thegrundinis4199 just because I travel the country doing them for a living, just just good to know their location haha, i just do it for the fur and not skins
Great stuff, living the dream.

Interesting! Yes plenty of them around I drove past them on the road to go and hunt them up the creek 🤣
Awesome! What is that orange thing you walk past towards the end? Cheers
That was a lone boulder covered in lichen it just stood out from the others. Thanks for watching!
Nice work 😎😎👍
Thank you 👍
you have a fun life
Thank you!
I haven't been hunting there in about 30 years. The commercial ground hunters always kept the deer numbers low. Ah, those were the days.
Nice yes it would be good if you could make the sort of money now like back then. Thanks for watching!

Cool video ❤, ya cant beat dropping a deer. Just wondering have you seen, or heard any possums around there?
Good question no possums at all we are getting a few for the fur but there have been none here. Why is that?
