- Kane and his son Eden head south to the Lewis pass area to hunt Red stags in the rut. With an awesome weather window they hit the tops and get into some great areas and as a bonus find a nice mature stag to shoot after getting fogged in for half the day.

Great vid, really enjoyed that. I was in nth Canterbury as well that weekend. Did a similar kind of walk in trip over 6 days just didn't capture it on film anywhere nearly as good as you guys. Great country down there. Makes you want to go back again and again.

Shot 3 stags, too many in there to be fair.were never going to be trophies. Was told by the local chopper pilot I should've shot more. Too many hunters looking for the big trophy.

You commented that he was an old stag. How old do you think he was? He only looked 4-5 to me???
Yeah I wish we had kept the lower jaw. His coronets were so low on his skull that around the back of his antlers the skin had grown over and above his coronets. I was guessing over ten yrs by his facial features and the way he walked etc. I’d be keen to hear what other guys think.
