@@lauriejo5810 I'm not a U.S. citizen, so I can't vote in the election, yet U.S. policy effect the whole world, which became abundantly clear with the invasion of Iraq and the economic crash of 2008. I'd vote for Biden, but seeing as that is not really much of an improvement, I'd call myself "Canadian" if I traveled abroad as a U.S. citizen.
I lost my dad a few years ago, and I remember the last time we spoke on the phone so clearly. I teared up when he said he always takes his daughters calls, I understand it so well.

This was probably the best interview with a politician I've seen in a long time. Nearly an hour that felt like 10 minutes. I was nice to listen to full sentences in answer to vital questions, not some half-arsed, incomprehensible, mumbled avoidance.
I'm not American, so I have no say in what happens there, but it was good to see and hear someone who is, at least, trying to put a plan together to right some of the wrongs that have been done by this current "administration"...I use the punctuation because there appears to be little administering going on at the moment, it seems to be all about getting as much as they can personally, before the axe falls...
Here's hoping that the next administration can repair the damage done by this one, or at least begin to...personally, I think it'll take decades to completely do so (but then again, I'm a bit of a pessimist)...good luck everyone over there, be patient, it'll get done, slowly but surely, it'll get done... :))

I agree. As an Australian, I also can do nothing about removing someone who endangers not only his own citizens but the peace of the whole world. It's frustrating but, then again, I haven't had to live under this insane and horrendous regime for the last few years, so I guess it evens out.

“The answer is YES.” Straight talking and clear politicians are very rare these days.
Anyone with a half a brain would notice that most questions for the first half of the interview were yes/no questions (and all the answers were yes), anything else, Colbert answered or led on himself. "Double the pell grant and pay for more tuition!" Ah, so you want to raise taxes and waive debt, since Pell is appropriated from Congressional spending. Thanks Joe. You want the economy to take a bath.
Colbert asked the questions and Biden gave straight, full, detailed answers to Colbert's questions. Trump's denial of the seriousness of the coronavirus tanked the economy; 44 Million unemployed in the past six months on Trump's watch. 170,000 Americans dead from the coronavirus since January 2020 and Trump adviser Jared Kushner calls that a "success."

Stephen has interviewed particularly well on this occasion. He does his quippy funny thing, and then dives into the seriousness of the world and back again with such grace. Great sense of when to let the guest speak and when to move it along.

If you compare this interview with others from years ago you realise there is no sign of any lessening of mental faculties. If there are pauses between sentences it is because he is thinking about what he is going to say. That is useful for a leader because it makes people listen more.

Like Joe Biden, I've lost many in my life. My 16 year old son was one of them. I've gone through every stage of grief. He's right about one thing, what keeps you out of darkness and losing faith is the thought of what the people you lost would expect of you. I lost my son because my nephew drove under the influence of drugs and alcohol and caused his death. I fought for tougher DUI law in my state. That's what my son knew of me and would expect. After my 4 years of hard grief, others were protected.
May the memory of your beloved son be a blessing to you always. My prayers for his eternal shining soul.🙏

For me the most impressive thing about Biden is how close to the surface his grief is, how he lives with it and harnesses it in his political quest. He has let tears flow (not that he could really stop them) in many settings, in front of cameras and audiences. When he tears up, I feel it. I think his pain is my pain, and OUR pain, and I find it very moving. Pain has shaped Biden into that rarest of creatures: a conscientious politician who actually cares about the "polis", the people. I'm a Filipino and while I was watching this interview I've opened a few tabs and did some quick research about Mr. Biden. Reading about his story is heartbreaking but yet hearing him laugh so wholeheartedly makes me accepts this man's genuineness. His tears were real and I know that the deepest pain any parent could have would be to lose a child. He understands the pain of losing someone and yet he could smile and continues to look at the future positively.

@Christien du Preez lol I hear you, but I don't stand behind politicians. I was essentially saying that I liked the speech. When I vote, I know going in that I'm most likely not going to like the person, so I just treat it like a job interview (looking at qualifications). From that angle, Biden is a far better candidate. No, I don't like him either, but he can do the job. I can't think of any candidate whom I've liked personally since I've been voting....but I CAN think of a few who are actually qualified for the job. From an objective standpoint, Trump has proven that he has no clue what he's doing, and doesn't understand basic concepts of his presidential role, like "public servant"...which is something that a narcissist isn't capable of doing (ask any professional therapist/psychologist). If this were corporate America, he would've been fired a long time ago...well he would've never been hired.
For example, it makes a lot more sense to hire Biden b/c the guy can objectively prove that he knows the law...and that fits some of the job description. Just like in a job interview, anyone running for president needs to be able to prove objectively that he qualifies for the position. Why is the public's time being wasted on people who have no clue how to be president (debates, campaigns)? In my opinion, someone who can't show qualifications should not be allowed to run. It's like how a corporate America boss typically won't interview people with weak resumes (no experience or education).
My whole point is that people need to leave emotions at the door and look at stuff more objectively. It's the most important job in the country, and the position shouldn't be won by popularity contest. None of these people running are morally clean, so we have to look at other things. This isn't a job that people who know next to nothing should be able to talk themselves into. The job is way too important for that. We need someone who knows something. I have no clue who I'm voting for yet, but at least Biden has made a decent case for why he is capable of being a president. Caring about the country isn't really valid. Any joe blow off the street cares about the country....at the same time, you have to consider what that person's definition of "care" or "love" is. A lot of people use those words, but have no idea what they mean. With the things that Trump has done to his OWN people, he's shown that he doesn't actually care. He cares about himself.

My post was very coherent/logical (and wasn't insulting toward you at all...I was just sharing my viewpoint). I feel like you read one thing and went off into left field. You made a lot of assumptions about my thinking that are very inaccurate. Feel free to disagree with what I said, but all of that was not called for. If you don't know where someone stands, ask questions. In this case, reading more carefully would show why I just reacted in the way that I did. Holy crap. That ending when he talks about his relationship with his son had me in tears. You could see how genuine he is. Someone who feels for the relationships he has with people, the loyalty, the honor, the respect... some cynics would say this is practiced or using his son’s death for political gain- but why shouldn’t he show who he is to the world when he is running for this position? Why shouldn’t be honest about how loss has affected him. I’ve never seen Biden be this... well... relatable.

So, was Anybody in any interview ever, here’s the difference,
Trump, in the infamous public Oval Office announcement didn’t get asked anything, and he had time (probably about a day if I got to guess) to prepare a statement in which all he had to do was read something (that he already read because he presumably created it) and he got many things wrong with the actual policy that would be implemented. (Not even going to mention when he tried to roll off his mistakes as he’s done a multitude of times)
Biden in this probably got a day max to prepare multiple answers to multiple questions and didn’t have to have aids and staff come out with multiple statements to correct him on this...
The point I’m trying to say is that while you’re right, he was probably given the questions in this interview, so was Trump in any of his interviews (there’s also a difference between press conferences and interviews, this is a interview, the coronavirus briefings are press conferences)
I’m not trying to change your views with this because I know it won’t, what I’m trying to say is you need to look at the other side of things, take a look at why there is another side, and see there reasons for what they are, and believe me I’ve tried to see why Trump seems appealing, but the reason why is because he’s trying to emulate autocrats and authoritarians,
And who am I to say that you’re wrong for wanting that, but you have to remember that there are many people who don’t, and in politics it’s the people who make the choices, and many of them don’t want Trump back,
So what I’m asking you to do is to take a look at why the people think that, and if you do, and you still support Trump, then good for you, vote for whoever you want, it’s your ballot, but just remember, that Trump is the reason we’ve all had to deal with these 4 years of what I call absolute crap, but if you enjoyed it, then, well that’s you then

Now that’s a MAN! I was so impressed when Biden’s daughter called during the interview, and he answered it, telling her he’s on the Colbert Show and he’ll call her back, and loved her. That made me really proud!
