Amen Omen

My submission for the Hardware Jams “Heavenly Beats and Hellish Pads” Weekend Challenge.
Surely there is only one beat that can be counted as “heavenly”… The Amen break!
So that is the drum pattern this jam is built around. I also tried to created a “heavenly beat” by also triggering an Angelic Choir patch also using the Amen pattern. Each drum sound is mapped to a different note of the angel choir, which is how the jam starts.
Hellish pads were curtesy of the Elmyra 2 and the arp line was from my analog modular synth. I have recently built a Gnatophilidae Oxfordii filter from Frequency Central and had a lot of fun learning what sounds this filter can create.
It's been a while since I've been able to jam, so it was good to get back to creating some music again.
This week’s challenge prompt:
Well Jamfam, it is the Equinox this weekend - a time of balance in the changing seasons of our planet wherever you are. So this weekend's challenge is to balance some heavenly beats with some hellish pads. If you squeeze a cheeky reference to JMJ in there without sampling or ripping him off, then more power to you but no extra points!
Always Learning

I'm a strong believer in continuous improvement and always trying to learn something new. This week I experimented with a technique using the beatstep’s drum channel midi output to polyphonically trigger the choir patch on my Yamaha YS100. This worked quite well and gives you 16 semitones to play with which limits it’s usefulness a bit, but can be a useful way of getting an extra voice sequenced from the beatstep.
My DIY Synth Rules

I aim to meet the following criteria when adding modules to my synth:
◦ I must have constructed it.
This can be a kit or from scratch but I must have soldered it
◦ The audio signal path should be analog.
I'm trying to avoid digital modules so I can learn more about analog electronics
◦ Learn something new
Try to learn something while constructing the module. Learn about the circuits, experiment with different signal processing options. Be creative.
