The first 3 minutes of this are better than the entirety of most such short films we seemed to be flooded with these days...amazing what just a little bit of establishing of character and setting will do for you. Great job!
Yeah very well realized for a short film. I have even seen alot of full lenght films with a lot less (or worse delivered) character development. Either failing to make me care at all or bringing some details of their past out to the open in forced, unrealistic seeming dialogue only meant to bring up some "character info" but feel cheap. Assassins Creed movie being a fantastic example of absolutely horrible pacing, character development and building a narrative that you care about.
Anthrage absolutely, it made a huge difference! That, the location, the actors which i doubt were even real actors, n props all had such authenticity n realness it makes all the difference. It felt dirty, real, raw, old, and lived in.
Yeah, and there's not this unecessary overdone emotional distress and tedious character build-up. Actions speak for themselves, and the fewt things Wong did told us everything we needed to know about his life, psyche and place in the world. Most independent movies are pretty pretentious when it comes to storytelling whereas this is a masterclass in keeping it simple and let your audience fill in the blanks.
Does anyone noticed that when he was stuck with the rope on his leg, he didnt thought about cutting it with his left hand... just like he did with the boat on the begining ?
There was an unheard of director who made a Sci Fi film on a shoestring budget, did the special effects on his own computer at home (Which were just as good as big budget films) The film went on to get recognised by Hollywood and the director was offered a job to direct "Godzilla" and "Rouge One" I know someone in Hollywood will catch this and bring you aboard! Good luck on a big and promising film career!
I hate short movies like this... because they leave me wanting MORE!!! ... I'd love to see this made into a full-length movie, definitely keeping Wong as the main character (and perhaps a hero)... It was a fantastic little short, but it was like only being given a small bite of a delicious steak.
the old injured cripple at ground zero of alien invasion? nah, hes getting killed off, serving only as an interesting introduction to the alien invasion. then we get the point of view from military and the general populace, and THEN the hero comes in.
lone wrecche: When someone says something like that, it usually means that the act will not come without vindication/payback. Seems like all the people who fucked him over are getting their just desserts and he's the survivor.
While yes I agree with that, I wouldn't say he gets to be the sole survivor based on the ending; which is unfortunate, I was really starting to like him.
cloverfield was something never seen before though, at least, there was never a mention of an attack on China. But the government was already secretive enough about everything anyway, so hwo knows
+Sigma Projects You should know that Cloverfield and Cloverfield Lane aren't connected other than the company letter easter egg. 'Clover' was a beast in the depths that was awakened by the satellite falling at the end of Cloverfield's past footage. Cloverfield lane is an alien invasion. They're supposed to be an anthology series.
Now that was a great short-film. Acting was not so great in terms of spoken lines, but the expressions were top notch, the monsters were great, cinematography was 100% awesome. Loved the feeling of the film.
Oh yes, old man Wong saving earth. I would love to see that......or at least a part two to this story, he is just to good a character to finish his story like that.

YES because after you see the alien squids destroying and burning down a city, YOU KNOW they are reasonable, peaceful, loving and open to make peace with us!
I highly doubt anyone in their right minds would want to make peace with an alien race that most likely had malicious reasons for coming to earth in the first place judging by their actions upon first contact. Would rather it be part 2: Wong's Revenge. Makes more sense
Great job, this took a turn I wasn't expecting! A short story about creatures with mysterious origins ascending from the sea.... I'm assuming the creators are H.P Lovecraft fans or admirers. The only things I could find that I had a slight issue with were first visually at 9:11 the clouds repeat identically behind each other a very easy fix and common sense at 15:12 he can't loosen the rope around his leg... did he forget he has a knife hand that earlier that day he used to cut a rope?! All in all well done!
The creatures themselves really had an Lovecraftian eldritch feel to them as well. All in all, this was an amazing short film, really not dissapointed!
My issue in general with these independent movies, is that they have a tendency to over-do the characters and plot. I kinda enjoy it when characters behave like they should, but their emotional struggles, motivations and intentions are toned down and somewhat left for us to speculate and interpret upon. I think "The Fisherman" did a great job of giving Wong a backstory without really overdoing it - most is left for us as spectators to invest in the character and fill in as we see fit. This is similar to how we perceive people in the real world; we can never truly know them yet we have a decent profile of them that come from their actions and the exposition that trickle in between as they disclose parts of their story and psyche. Let there be some mystery because that's what makes characters and their story truly come to life!
I can tell that a lot of work was put into making this short film. This is why love it so much I wish it was made into full length movie. I would definitely watch it all the way to the end.
I saw a very similar script 20 years ago in the movie "The Outer Limits". A group of teenagers killed some strange creature in the forest. And after a few hours, their parents returned with advanced technology and exterminated the entire human race as bandits.
There is a Japanese movie like this called Returner (2002). It's not called The Returner, Returned or The Returned. It's the one with alien invasion and time travel in it.
For decades I would go creek crabbing for blue claws out on Long Island New York. Not professional, just because they are good to eat. I would take the sails off the Minifish sail boat, that made it surf board like with a cubby hole in the center to put the crab bucket in, a car headlight and car battery, put the headlight on a stick under water and the light doesn't reflect off the surface, in fact it reflects downward and really lights up under the water big time. I would use my crab net to pole around in the low tide 1' to 3' shallow creek. Now to the interesting part of the story; Like I said I had been crabbing for decades and one fall, maybe 2 AM, bright moon, clear water, I saw a sea creature I had never seen before. It looked like a headless lobster, it was big, bigger than the 8" across the shell crabs I was catching, seemed to have a near clear light tan shell. I had to catch it. It was fast and tricky, could make sharp turns, seemed to sense when I was about to strike with the net. I chased that thing for at least 2 hours, even flipped the Minifish a couple times trying to get him when he darted underneath me (I found out that a car battery kinda boils under water). Finally I caught him. I let go my crabs so they wouldn't pinch the thing I had caught and put him in the bucket. What was it? I showed it to my sister in the morning, she had no idea, showed other people, they had no idea. It looked like an alien lobster to me, the big tail (it was nearly all tail) looked like it would be good to eat, but I let it go, and it was fine, swam off fast. It took me finally getting a computer about 7 years ago to find out what it was, a Mantis Shrimp, extremely rare in northern waters. That was a fun hunt, I turned into Captain Ahab for a couple hours, the nasty great white crab monster thing capsizing my boat and such. Out on the creeks so late and quiet and moonlit becomes mystical in a way. I highly recommend it.
@@imstupid4life Thanks for liking my story. I went crabbing in a creek that had a silty'muddy bottom and the crabs in that creek had a trick. I wasn't catching any till figured out the trick then I was really nabbing them. The crabs would run and stir up the mud and then I couldn't see the bottom. I could remember where they ran to before stopping but when I netted across the bottom I came up with nothing. I realized what they must have been doing. Running and stirring up the bottom and then in the cloud of mud running back. The tricky buggers were running back about 8 inches, not 5 inches, not a foot, right around 8 inches. I started catching them without seeing them. It was that night crabbing in that creek that something scared me. There were patches of ell grass on little islands, some of the islands were small as let's say a golf putting green. Anyway, something growled at me fiercely and loud. Scared the crap out of me. I think it might have been a raccoon but that doesn't really make sense because it was a little patch of land surrounded by water.
@@theanimal0256 Those are my 2 best crabbing stories. It's something I did when I was younger. I have a house in Virginia now, near the where the Chesapeake bay meets the Potomac river. There is a dock near my house, a short walk through a trail in the woods and I can catch crabs there. I don't go in a boat, I use a piece of chicken on a string, the string tied to the dock. The crab will grab the chicken and run with it, when the line is taught you know a crab is on the string. You have to pull the string in slow, the crab will hang on the chicken, get the crab up to the surface of the water and catch him with the net. I've had a half a dozen strings out at once with crabs grabbing them left and right. After a bit you can tell if it's a good size crab on the string by how hard it tugs back when you start pulling him in. If the crab is small I'll leave him on it because his munching on the bait attracts other crabs. I've seen it, a medium size crab munching on the bait and a big one comes along and scares him off and steals his meal. There are tricks to chicken necking. Have the net in the water ready to get the crab. If the net is already in the water, to the crab the net is something that has always been in the water. Put the net in the water while the crab is near the surface and he will see or hear it and jump off the bait. At night is best, the crabs don't mind flashlight, also, during the day the top foot of water is hot and the crabs will jump off before they surface. The biggest crab I ever caught was 8 7/8 inches. That was on Long Island. Believe me, that is a big crab. I ate him and saved his top shell and glued it to the front of my car like a hood ornament. I thought about becoming a crabber in Virginia. Be my own boss. But there is more involved than just getting the crabs. Need a good boat, the real crabbing boats are specialized, very open. Crab pots is the best, need a 50 pot license at least to make a buck. The crabs have to be culled when you pull up the pot, have any crabs undersized and the Marine Police catch ya and you get a ticket. Half to know male from female, males are called Jimmies and females are called Sooks, and identifying them is easy enough but there are special rules for keeping Sooks depending the stage of reproduction they might be in. A crab that is about to shed soon is extra valuable, there is a red line along the edge of the small legs of a shedder, they get put in a separate basket and taken to a shedding operation, tanks with running water in shade on docks right on the bay. The shedders get checked on every few hours because when a crab sheds he starts ti get a hard shell again fast. I don't know if you have ever had soft shell crab, they are more expensive because the meat doesn't have to be picked, just take the lungs and guts out and bread and fry them and they are good to eat. There are good and bad years for crabbers. The thing is a good year isn't that good because the price of a bushel goes down according to market. But a bad year can be real bad, not even paying for gas. Have to check on the pots every day by law with only Sundays off. Have to bait the traps, stinky fish. Haul the pots up by hand. What is fun as a hobby could become drudgery. There is book I read all about the crab and crabbers called "Beautiful Swimmer". Later.
What a fantastic movie this would make. Absolutely amazing short film. Would be great to see what happens next. He returns and meets up with other fishermen, and they work out a plan to fight back. Along the way they discover a huge space craft has landed....
No one messes with Wong! The entire planet, however.... well, that's a different matter. Too bad a fisherman with a spear is greater than those supposed to protect entire cities and countries. Really good film.
That was pretty damned good. I liked the build up and the surprise ending. But, my favorite part was that final stab. I swore I heard him say, "then we'll go down to Mordor!" I had to play it back again and had a grin on my face the rest of the way through. This short is definitely worth a watch.
For their first invasion the squid people probably shouldn't have chosen a country that loves to eat squid. Its like having space-cows attack Texas.

Reall| enjoyed reading this. I never fish before but I want to. Mantis shrimp are awesome, the spike claws one and the club one

Thanks for liking my story.
@@nelsonx5326 you should write a book with your crabbing stories

Those are my 2 best crabbing stories.
Later.
@@nelsonx5326 that's interesting I enjoy fishing myself but I'll have to try crabbing someday you make it sound fun.
What a fantastic movie this would make. Absolutely amazing short film. Would be great to see what happens next. He returns and meets up with other fishermen, and they work out a plan to fight back. Along the way they discover a huge space craft has landed....
That was just WONG! XD But look on the bright side of this? He now owns his boat LOL rent free!
that was unexpected...
Loved it... at least the Boat can double as a drink and dance bar... "" what should we call it?"..
I'm Chinese and I need English subtitles for Cantonese. I'm like wtf
Shao Rick: You think that's bad, try listening to Fukienese 😂
Wong's cantonese pronunciation was atrocious though, so nothing wong there xp
I think Wong is not entirely Cantonese..sounds like what my grandma uses sometimes.
Obviously you aren't Wong enough
Rush hour 5 teaser !!!
This should be a box office movie
The Host 2 looks good
Solaire's Sunny D I see you with that obscure movie reference mah boi.
wong might've unknowingly started an alien war
That wong happen because it was wong thing to do
They should make this into a fully fledged out sci fi movie job well done 👍🏼
brilliant loved it!!
thanks for sharing, look forwards to seeing more from wong!!
*****THUMBS UP*****
On the bright side, he doesn't have to worry about paying that back rent anymore.
No one messes with Wong! The entire planet, however.... well, that's a different matter. Too bad a fisherman with a spear is greater than those supposed to protect entire cities and countries. Really good film.
Tried looking up Mr Wong in the Hong Kong phone directory, but there were too many wong numbers.
Lol
no.
PUN IN10DEAD
You think thats bad, try Chin. Only Michael Moore and Rosie O'Donnell together have more chins.
Fuck you david.
Still better than a $972 million Michael Bay film.
This is one of the best short film i ever watched.
Make it a full length feature, loved it.
Wong you hurt one of their babies. That was great! 4 ✨
watching again - one of my faves
nobody messes with Wong
RAAAAAAHHH
Wong knows when to keep his head down!
No one messes with Wong!!!
⛵🎣💪🏽🤣😂😭
Superb! Like a cross between Close Encounters and Jaws.
This needs a full series. It was awesome! Make a great video game too!
That was pretty damned good. I liked the build up and the surprise ending. But, my favorite part was that final stab. I swore I heard him say, "then we'll go down to Mordor!" I had to play it back again and had a grin on my face the rest of the way through. This short is definitely worth a watch.
Nice.. the boat rent is paid now ! lol
Loved it. It’s rare to see something completely original.
It was in the Wong ocean at the Wong time.
Shout out to Mr H !!
same
All kidding aside.............I loved this......Everything was wight!
