Useful as i recently - late last year - got the p770 2023 version (switched out from pxg p) and really love them. Doing really well with them, predictable and consistent distances etc. best irons I have had. And customised (lie, length etc) for me with a great graphite shaft (ust nanocore cb) and my favourite grips that i have on all my clubs (jmx ultralite) Cannot see me changing in near future. As am lefty also hard to get opportunities to test clubs though have tested apex and others over recent times. Yes the looks of the new one look smarter to me but marginal given how well i strike these ones. Also as I only use 6-pw (no gw for lefties) changes in the longer irons do not matter to me. As am brand agnostic my wedges are pxgs, my mini driver and hybrids callaway ai smoke and apex respectively.
Thanks for watching and sounds like you're pretty happy with your existing set. No real reason to change. Disappointing there isn't a gap wedge for lefties, didn't know that.
Yeah, the shareholders demand that these companies keep getting bigger and better and more profitable but also, the consumer actually demands that there is regular new product, in a desperate bid to cure their ills! I do think consumers, generally are getting wiser to the brands though. I like new stuff even if it isn't any better!
@@golffm6924 heck, I like old clubs that are forged. They changed the lofts to reduce the amount of clubs. Remember 2-Sand Wedge? Now it 4-P, or 5-P because people have gone to hybrids. Even instructors don’t like long irons. A 7I standard loft was 36°, always. Now it can go from 34° to 28°. Just silly. I do like the P770 design. I was fitted for them. Didn’t buy them. I purchased Takomo 101T irons. Love them. I also have several older forged sets I play with.
Thanks Fraser...great review (love your sense of humor!). Really like the looks of the new P770 -- anxious to go hit them. I'm playing to an 11 handicap, so not sure I'm a good enough ball striker to play them. May consider a blended set w/ P790s -- or possible strengthen the lofts by 1.0 - 1.5 degrees so they're similar to the irons I'm playing now.
Thanks, a blended set might be a good idea actually, the 4 and 5 iron might look a little bit scary in the P770; especially with the new ones being fractionally smaller again. Cheers
Do you by any chance know why the stock shaft for these are the Dynamic Gold instead of KBS Tour which was on previous model. I’m contemplating the upgrade because I love the heavier KBS shaft. I know I can order them with KBS shafts but I’m thinking maybe Taylormade had a particular reason to not go with KBS for these heads perhaps?
I asked the demo rep and he said that it didn't matter what they picked as the stock shaft, it is never for a specific technical reason. Often it can be a commercial arrangement as much as anything. He said that you need to get the shaft that suits you in the head that suits you and that's the end of it!
Nicely done review as always Fraser. Reckon if you sell a couple of hundred of those ugly OGIO bags you might be able to afford a GC Quad to replace the SkyTrak mate. 😆
It's a fair point, but you'll only really be able to get the 2020 model second hand now and it is still a question a lot of people will want answered, whether there is any point changing from the last model.

Marketing, what a concept. Same thing called completely different. Love these irons.

I will ask the demo rep and get back to you. I very much doubt there will even be a minor issue putting KBS into them, but I'll ask the question.
@@golffm6924 Thanks. Much appreciated

Haha, yes, hoping somebody at GC Quad might watch this one and take pity on me. Cheers
Test against the 2020 model. I feel like there isn't much of a difference between these irons that only come out a year after its predecessor.
