Really do you do all the exercises daily. My neck collapsed terrible pain but after that resolved i was left with this gross hump very upsetting and horrid.
The imagery I use with my patients for scapular motion is "back and down, like your trying to pinch a pencil." Works every time. And then later I can just give a quick verbal cue, "pinch the pencil" and the carryover is fantastic.
People used to laugh at me when I showed them the chin tuck exercises. Keep laughing while you ask me HOW the heck I got rid of my big neck hump. Lol It's completely flat now. Also, holding correct posture helps a lot. Theres hope guys. My shoulders used to be SO TENSE before, and the headaches. Not anymore!❤
How long did it take? Mine is horrible. I'm 30 and its been there since I was maybe 16. I hate it. I'm so self conscious. :( I know I'm gonna have to be consistent with the exercises.
@Super Sonic I feel you mama, I gained so much weight and that is when it seems so much worse. When the body gets used to storing fat there from years of bad posture(with good reason to protect your protruding cervical spine) and when we gain weight, it finds that hump pad to collect in. While doing these exercises, you have to try and remain conscientious of sitting up straight when possible, try and remember to push your shoulders back, eventually itll become natural. Okay, so theres two exercises, my first exercise that I did 2 weeks before adding the second, was just to begin activating those weak and unused muscles. I would stand flat against the wall, shoulders back against it, with feet just an inch or so from the wall, and I'd tuck my chin down to touch my chest with the back of my head staying against the wall, and I would hold it there for 3 minutes. At first you may want to start 1 or 2 minutes at a time, cause you may get a little like cramp-like feeling in those unused muscles. Remeber to keep the chin tucked completely despite the sensation, you can even take a short break between each minute. Its not very comfortable at first, my muscles were so weak I felt like I was pinching a nerve or something(only did this the first few times). But I would do that AT LEAST 3 times per day. If the next day those exercised muscles feel like you worked out, then you may want to take that day off, it's better to start slowly until you feel comfortable. Theres example videos of this on youtube if I'm not painting a good enough picture. Second is an exercise that I didnt see in a video, but I felt it helped. Once I felt no awkward sensations and gained a little strength in those muscles, I would lay on the couch with my legs up on the back and my head dangling off the seat. Using my arms, I would lift my head up into a chin tuck at first, hold it for a few seconds, then slowly help it back down, repeat about 10 chin tucks. I would do that once or twice per day. Eventually I gained strength under my chin(jawline), in the front neck muscles, and cervical muscles to where I no longer had to use my arms, it CAN be a bit of an arm workout as well. Lol. So yeah, that's it. Do those 2 exercises daily, and shoulders back as much as you can remember. Also, but not necessary: Eventually after the back straightened out, I bought a light weight set and began doing minor shoulder and back exercises, like dumbell side raises and bent over fly's making sure to keep my chin slightly tucked(and VERY good posture), to strengthen surrounding muscles for more support. Good luck with everything especially the reduction, YOU CAN DO THIS, itll become a routine and eventually wont even feel like hard work! It took anywhere from 2-5 months(2 months to start seeing results, and 5 to see a no hump and better posture) for me, it's a slow process, but we have to remember it took a lifetime to get where we are. Before you know it you'll be staring at yourself and your posture in the mirror. Sending hugs and healing your way.❤ Ps sorry for the book I just wrote and for not responding sooner, I almost missed your response.
So its been two days since I saw this video and that night layed down with a sock on my thing for an hour because it felt so good and honestly two days later I can see it getting shorter and my back doesn't hurt as much it feels so good. Thank you guys so much you're a life saver!

Oh my God! I've been suffering from this since I was 12. I'm 31 now. I have seen several doctors and none of them could tell me why my back was in chronic pain. It wasn't until years later that a physical therapist told me. He just took one quick look at me and said "aha". But he said that there was nothing I could do about it. So for 19 years, I've been missing out on a lot of fun things, because my back hurts so much. I literally cried of joy when I saw this video. I've been trying some of these exercises before, but always been told that it will only make my back pain worse. Thank you for your words of wisdom! ❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏
An excellent video also for all those of us who’s shoulders are pronating. My physios here in England have said “posture” when I finished my ankle exercises, but they don’t say what exercises to do! Now, I know exactly what to do to help myself. Very many thanks dear gents, you are a couple of absolute gems!
emily bolen I get it. I think it’s the timbre of their voices, kind of the nerdy purity of these guys (lol-no offense, guys), and even the muted colors of the room, etc. It is reminiscent of the 70s.
I’m going to try this. Been in bed 8 months for salvage limb. Get strong tough. But I developed a hump from being in bed reading or ??? This is a great start!!!
I Have dowager's hump so I have right for review and feedback. As Bob & Brad don't have any hump they can't say how it feels exactly. Trust me I tried it with a hard ball, it does hurt. I tried with softer ball and trust me next day I slept for 15 hours long. I could hear my bones popping in my body while I was lying with tennis ball underneath my hump and trying to roll it side by side. It felt instantly different. Post two times exercise I can feel my T1 moving proper way... Now I know where issue was. Tissues and fat will pain trust me, but it's worth it. Now I am unable to go back to my wrong chicken neck posture, it feels wrong to my body now. Like my some habit is broken.... And now I feel lighter...and ofcourse pain is there a little due to friction of ball but such a relief in posture wow... I did it on yoga mat and it worked yay. In 4 years now I feel so light... Perhaps I found my knots and did it right way somehow Bob - Brad thanks a ton. God bless you.
Why did you pop up in my feed? How did you get in my head? I struggle with this issue daily. The look AND the pain. I also am super aware of others that have neck hump. The only time I lessen the look of the neck hump, and lessened the pain, was when I was in physical therapy. Of COURSE I stopped the exercises. The only OTHER time I got relief, was when I was working with a personal trainer who was a body builder. He didn't believe in building his clients bodies. He believed in finding the cause of the pain and strengthening those muscles. He never put me on a machine or made me pick up a weight. Guess what exercises he taught me... The exact ones you just demonstrated. And of COURSE I stopped. Thank you so much for extra terrestrially finding me! I will not question how.; but I will be diligent in doing these exercises again. Also... you are two good guys.
Same here! I’ve never searched any physical therapy or the bump. I have a large chest so I’ve had the bump for years. Will be trying this out but yes very random video
I lost 50 lbs last year and my hump FINALLY went away completely! I tried everything and it never worked. But I never tried this when I did have it. But weight loss can eliminate it! It’s crazy.
Do you care to elaborate further? Because I'm at 180 lbs rn used to be 130 in highschool but I got the hump after countless hours daily for months of studying for nursing school and I still have it. Small pillows behind my lower neck helped and now I'm seeing a chiropractor or have been for a while. But now I'm starting to exercise more and eat better. So I'm really wondering if that would help more people or if it's just your isolated case.
Laura Zuniga It’s definitely has something to do with posture. The fat collects over time due to slouching I think is what happened. With myself, I was in college most of the time I was suffering with my weight so I was always slouching when I sat. I started using a foam roller where I’d lay it right below the hump on my back and I would just lay my head back. Id do this for about 5 min. Ymir forces the weight from your head to pull back and kinda line you back up. That’s how i think of it. Feels good too. I was told to do this by my chiropractor. I’ve always done this to help with my posture. Past few years. But I just did normal diet and exercise. I never focused on the hump, but I did a lot of back and arm exercises. So it could have helped it go away. I rarely ever wear my hair up but one day I did and my mom was like, your hump is gone! I look in the mirror and it’s just gone. I started at 215lbs and now I’m at 150. So it’s just all spine now that I can feel.
Laura Zuniga I think it would help a lot of people. I didn’t do any crazy diet either. Just normal counting of calories. I use my fitnesspal. I do about 2-3 days of cardio for 30 minutes along with working on muscle groups each time. New muscle groups each day of that week. But yeah, it’s just a collection of fat. My chiropractor told me the whole fat situation and how I could slightly improve it but the only thing I improved was my posture a TINY bit, which didn’t improve the hump at all. I gave up and then I started dieting and bam, gone.
This works ridiculously well. As a tall guy, I have to look down a lot, and an easy way to achieve this is by slumping. I do this so much that I just forget how to return to a proper posture, especially when I'm tired. Recently my shirt collar bothered me because it was resting heavily on the back of my neck instead of on my shoulders. Having seen your video, I gave it a go and after only a couple of reps my shirt collar rests where it is supposed to. My shoulders hurt a little but it's like the kind of pain you feel in your legs when you get to sit down after walking up a hill. Thanks a million!
Ha, Bob says he does his stretches in the car, I can outdo that. When the weather is good I do my stretches on my motorcycle, yeah some people think it is weird but hey they aren't the boss of me.
OMG. I have been suffering from chronic tension headaches for over a year. And I also have a bit of a neck hump as well, which is why this video caught my attention. I just tried the sock thing and even after just doing it ONCE my neck feels incredible! Something cracked at one point and it was just awesome, hahaha. I am absolutely trying this every night! ❤️❤️ THANK YOU GUYS!! ❤️❤️

Thanks to you guys, you guys fixed my impingement syndrome in my shoulder. Now you guys have helped fixed my upper back with these exercises. Thank you
Just found you by accident, and have watched this and the 7 exercise one already.I have written them down and will start doing them daily, as I have this exact type of tension from work, and after being off work a week, are still quite tight in the neck/upper back area. You are very informative and agree that you are also very likable! Thank you!!!
Thank you Bob and Brad. I needed this. And I'm going to add, my neck got worse as I aged and became concerned about my balance (didn't want to fall backwards). I strongly recommend the leg strengthening and core and balance exercises to help with strength, balance and walking safely. Hoping the best for Bob and keeping you in prayer. 2023
Thank you so much for the video. I’m so embarrassed, as I’ve had this since I was 20. I’m now 49 and have lived with this all these years and have been so self conscious. These exercises look like they can help!
i’m so self conscious about my back and i did the sock thing on the floor and seriously didn’t wanna get up it felt SO NICE. Hope to see it improve but if not at least i found something to soothe the pain thank you thank you!!!

Whenever I want to find ways of improving my physical health, my go to search is Bob and Brad +INSERT PROBLEM HERE. You have never let me down and I am improving my issues every day. Thanks guys. You are the best physiotherapists on the internet.❤️
Done this for the first time for about ten minutes and the results are so noticeable !!! I don’t have a car so I’ve been lying down on my bed doing them (without a pillow) and it feels so good!
Just discovered these two and this was super helpful. While I’ve been off work I started doing crafting projects at the dining room table and now have neck and back pain. I realize how poor my posture has become and worst thing... I discovered a fat lump on the back of my neck!! Wth?? I’ve been using the sock method for days and it feels so much better! Thanks docs!!
A dowager is the mother of a titled person who's child has ascended to be the main title holder. Say a person marries a Duke. She becomes a Duchess. Say her husband passes away when she is older (usually), and the title of duke then goes to the oldest son. His wife becomes then becomes the new Duchess and the mom becomes the dowager duchess. These women were often older and hunched\humped backed. That is where the term dowager's hump comes from.💜
Thank you so much Bob and Brad! After 2 20 minute sessions I can already see a difference! My neck is straighter and a crease in my neck was highlighted from bending forward. I am going to keep going! All the best, Susanne Ps I will update this in a week!
Thanks UA-cam for recommending these good blokes to me, My neck is fine and I’m 60+ but still happy to say you guys had put a smile on my face from start to end. Another new sub for you.
We do all this in our Pilates class; it’s great to see the exercises demonstrated so well with the results explained. The model of the spine really shows we laymen/persons the ‘whys and wherefores’ Thanks gentlemen
I have to admit these two men must be the first who have made me feel like actually taking their advice 🤫 Amazing especially for someone like me 🤭 Today's hospitals all over the world underestimate this professional therapist I believe it would saves many patients in hospitals They saved my son after heart surgery I saw it with my own eyes I know not many get the THANK YOU they deserve but I will say it for all THANK YOU😍 Australia 💕 Christina
I have to thank you for these tips, my posture improved instantly after the exercise lying on the foam roller and still looking good the next day. It is making the chin tucks easier as well as the 7th cervical has slotted back into its intended space. Blessings to you sirs!!!
It has been working great! I have also checked my sleeping posture and how I sit in general and they were terrible. So exercise + changing habits has worked. My posture is overall so much better and no neck pain!
@@ankeuttajaespanjassa so happy to hear that I'm really depressed bcs some people made fun of me in tgat moment I realised that I have to change bcs now my self-esteem is really low but you give me hope have a good day

I have been looking for something to help with my neck hump for years. Thank you so much Bob and Brad. I have been doing this for about 3 weeks twice daily and am already noticing improvement. I am using a tennis ball because one of the commenters had success with that. I also do the chin tucks and swinging my head side to side. Don't give up. This works.I am also ordering the foam roller to use.
I just tried it. It feels awesome! I have a pronounced dowager's hump, as did all the women in my family, so I'm going to add these exercises to my routine. Whether or not it gets rid of the dowager's hump or not, it just feels good to my muscles.

Thank you for sharing this method ! My bump was smaller in just overnight. I did it after finishing watching the show , then again before sleep and this morning before getting up .my bump was gone down a lot and my husband was surprised because I had the bump for many year and it’s gone down just because of the magic of the socks .
Lol. A dowager is a widow, so the dowager duchess is the duchess whose husband has died and her son has become the duke. Posh way to say widows hump. Love your work guys - so useful.
Iona - Sky ... yes, and Queen Elizabeth knew that dowager had acquired a negative connotation. When her father died, young Queen Elizabeth bestowed the moniker “Elizabeth, The Queen Mother” on her mother rather than have her (correctly) called “Elizabeth, Dowager Queen”
dowager and widow are not the exact same thing; a dowager is a widow who is moneyed - inherited property from her husband - aristocratic, or both. the term widow is applied to any woman who has survived her husband.
I’m 21 and I slouch because I’m self conscious about my chest, but I just recently realized I have a hump on my neck and it’s made me feel even MORE self conscious. So now I’m trying to fix it 😅
Ideas for those of us who sit at a desk 8 plus hours a day? (exercises that can be done there without the equipment) I am definitely going to be doing this at home. I also have sciatica pain daily! Walking is extremely difficult and I have been to two chiropractors.
CRAFTING WITH G-MA You can Do "chin tucks" and pelvic floor exercises at your desk. As far as "sciatic pain" goes... it could be coming from any number of things going on with your lower body - poor SI joint alignment, priformis syndrome, weak pelvic floor muscles, or even the shape of your foot

I see this video is a few years old, but nonetheless, I am so happy to see this and better yet, from the comments it appears that this technique works! I can't wait to try it. Also, in case you really don't know, "dowager" refers to an elderly widow with money and/or a title. And apparently they also have a hump!! Thank you so much for posting this, I'm really excited to try it!!

My Tibetan doctor told me about the chin tuck pressing my chin with my fingers. It gave me some instant neck relief. This technique is at least 2500 years old. I learned a lot about physical matenaince for relief from arthritis. Even two extremely privileged treatments from the Dalai Lama's personal physician. Arguably the world's leading expert on acupuncture. He also mentioned the state of mind has to change to make changes in your body. Posture is more often than not directly related to state of mind. And being mindful of what your body is doing during different moods allows you to consciously rectify your posture many times throughout the day. This helps enormously with arthritis. Good to see this tried and true, efficient and practical therapy being used in modern western medicine. Very helpful. Thank you.
I am really grateful to have found your videos. I have learned a great deal and I am seeing a big difference in hip and knee pain after just a short time. Thank you very much. I am trying to avoid surgery.

Michelle My Belle Hi there. I’m 5’10” and i live in Quebec, where 90% of people are five feet tall...I used to be paranoid about being tall. Until I worked for a beautiful woman my height, who strode around, gorgeously dressed, in HEELS.
Same 😟 I was writing aren't desk in middle school and this girl was like, what's wrong with your neck?! I never noticed before then, I've been extremely self-conscious since.
I also use two tennis balls tied up tightly in a sock, positioned with my spine centered between the tennis balls while laying on the floor on my back.
Many thanks. You guys ARE the best on the Internet. I was suffering from hand pain for a long time. I knew the forward neck tilt increased the pain. I had suspected the hump and had tried pressing on it with my hands in the past. But the sock worked !!!!
I love these silly guys. It's hard enough feeling like crap because your body's starting to fall apart from all the stress we've been handed this past two years and here they not only teach you how to help yourself back to health, they make you laugh!!
Where have I been? This has really helped. Currently doing physical therapy for severe DJD in lower cervical spine. Now I will implement the sock and resistance bands... these new techniques feel good. My brother and myself both have this neck hump. "Dowager's Hump"...learned something new.
Did I ever need you!! Thanks for all these tips. I work on computers all day, and my posture is atrocious! My Mom has the dowager hump, and I have always been scared that I had no defense against it! Thank you for all the good advice!

How is your hump now ? Also which one of the suggestions did you try ?
Hey I’m also curious if it is better??? Thank you
Really do you do all the exercises daily. My neck collapsed terrible pain but after that resolved i was left with this gross hump very upsetting and horrid.

You do it only one time a day?

Very doable and effective exercises .
I'm 17 and I've had my hump since I was 12. It's been a real self-esteem killer and I'm so glad that there's possibly a solution
I tried this but it was too uncomfortable so I just do it on my bed.....it worked.
@@bg588 how long did you take for it work?
Jeanne Keith Felipe Every second or third day for about two weeks.....about 15 minutes each session....longer when I fell asleep on them.
Cole, same but I'm 52 now. Definitely going to try this.
Cole, say something to your doctor. You may have scoliosis or kyphosis. Both can be corrected.

How long til u saw results?
Also, but not necessary:
Eventually after the back straightened out, I bought a light weight set and began doing minor shoulder and back exercises, like dumbell side raises and bent over fly's making sure to keep my chin slightly tucked(and VERY good posture), to strengthen surrounding muscles for more support. Sending hugs and healing your way.❤
Ps sorry for the book I just wrote and for not responding sooner, I almost missed your response.
@Super Sonic Likewise, I wish you the best New year.❤
So happy how much time it took to correct posture and hump
So its been two days since I saw this video and that night layed down with a sock on my thing for an hour because it felt so good and honestly two days later I can see it getting shorter and my back doesn't hurt as much it feels so good. Thank you guys so much you're a life saver!

Something about these men makes me feel safe 🥺
Applehead Moonwalker did it help you??
This reminds me of that segment in Whose Line Is It Anyway where Ryan Stiles and Colin Mochrie try to sell you weird stuff lol
woah yes! i love them
Hahahah!
This is your bad breath magnified 10 thousand times!
OMG! EXACTLY! 😂😂😂
Yassssss!!!!!!!
Lauren Biggs brilliant comparison!
An excellent video also for all those of us who’s shoulders are pronating. My physios here in England have said “posture” when I finished my ankle exercises, but they don’t say what exercises to do! Now, I know exactly what to do to help myself. Very many thanks dear gents, you are a couple of absolute gems!
Can I ask what ankle exercises and why? I have flat and pronated feet, looking for something that works. Thank you!
This feels so nostalgic for me. Reminds me of Mister Rodgers or something like that
emily bolen omg! This has nothing to do with Fred Rogers!!! NOTHING!!!!!
I agree
emily bolen I get it. I think it’s the timbre of their voices, kind of the nerdy purity of these guys (lol-no offense, guys), and even the muted colors of the room, etc. It is reminiscent of the 70s.
Also the video quality; it’s not terrible, it just feels like an older camera was used
It feels slow paced like Mister Rogers.
I love it! Their dynamic is pleasant and charming. Also super helpful information.
Love their motto ‘We never make the same mistake twice, but five or six times to make sure 😂

Perhaps I found my knots and did it right way somehow
Bob - Brad thanks a ton. God bless you.
Your story is so inspiring!
Chiropractic has helped me in a similar way to how you describe too

Did you get rid of the hump
Thanks for posting! I’ll take your advice.
Can't believe they missed the opportunity to call these "necksercises" smh.
you are good! =)
*giggles*
🤣🤣🤣
Lol!
I was thinking spine-tacular and now im just embarrassed.

@Vero Rg No, they said sometimes the hump has a pad of fat on it.
sampalazoo15 yea mine went away when lost weight
This works ridiculously well. As a tall guy, I have to look down a lot, and an easy way to achieve this is by slumping. I do this so much that I just forget how to return to a proper posture, especially when I'm tired. Recently my shirt collar bothered me because it was resting heavily on the back of my neck instead of on my shoulders. Having seen your video, I gave it a go and after only a couple of reps my shirt collar rests where it is supposed to. My shoulders hurt a little but it's like the kind of pain you feel in your legs when you get to sit down after walking up a hill. Thanks a million!

You are very informative and agree that you are also very likable! Thank you!!!

Thank you Bob and Brad. I needed this. And I'm going to add, my neck got worse as I aged and became concerned about my balance (didn't want to fall backwards). Hello Sandy, How are you doing?
A dowager is the mother of a titled person who's child has ascended to be the main title holder. Say a person marries a Duke. She becomes a Duchess. Say her husband passes away when she is older (usually), and the title of duke then goes to the oldest son. His wife becomes then becomes the new Duchess and the mom becomes the dowager duchess. These women were often older and hunched\humped backed. That is where the term dowager's hump comes from.💜
I read a lot of historical fiction. I often wondered but once into the book, never want to stop reading long enough to look it up. Much obliged
Thank! I’m a big Downton Abbey fan so this was helpful.

Iona - Sky dowager makes me think of Downton Abbey. Lol
Ava pegasus
dowager and widow are not the exact same thing; a dowager is a widow who is moneyed - inherited property from her husband - aristocratic, or both. the term widow is applied to any woman who has survived her husband.

Ideas for those of us who sit at a desk 8 plus hours a day? (exercises that can be done there without the equipment) I am definitely going to be doing this at home. I also have sciatica pain daily! Walking is extremely difficult and I have been to two chiropractors.
CRAFTING WITH G-MA
You can Do "chin tucks" and pelvic floor exercises at your desk. As far as "sciatic pain" goes... it could be coming from any number of things going on with your lower body - poor SI joint alignment, priformis syndrome, weak pelvic floor muscles, or even the shape of your foot
Stomach vacuums would be great at a desk

Thank you.
