English guy needed more screen time.
Agreed
At least he didn't die otherwise I would have dropped the show.
true he was my favourite character
the english guy said the dumbest shit made me lul everytime
Yukina's back muscles needed more screen time as well
That hot pink short haired girl that piloted the train needed more screen time.
Amen
Agreed
You mean the bodybuilder lol
@Brodie Augustus you said like a ad
This show started off pretty damn good, but it needed a solid villain to pull everything together.
And then we got Biba.
Biba was the rock that derailed the train.
0 - 100 real quick
I think you mean 100 - 0
Robert Herman 0 - 100 - 0
Dan the Joke Man he wasn't bad or anything but man was he a rushed character and his motivation was very unclear.
am I the only one who thinks WIT studio would have been a great studio to adapt Berserk . I think the dark, gready and highly detailed style of Berserk would be Perfect for them. it would have been awesome and so much better than the cg crap we got
Haha I get it, it was a "train wreck"
THIS GUY GETS IT
I see what you did there.
Cant wait to see what you say about Re:Zero the anticipation is killing me
Zoro you got lost again wrong anime
Ikr it quickly went to my favorite anime of all time and I consider myself having high standards.
I just wish Kabaneri stuck with being a survival anime. Biba = worst villain 2016
Mamoru Miyano had me expecting so much more...
+Glass Reflection agreed
To be fair he had to work with the script he was given :/
Worst villain of 2016.
Hey Sloan! :D
Ghouls weren't actually linked with vampires originally, they're from Arabian mythology.
Example: Raas al ghul
Yeah, he said ghouls because that's the term Hellsing uses I think.
Sterling Muse Ghouls have been connected to vampires a lot in pop culture but that came later.
He's really only referring to them in the sense of how anime have dealt with them, to remove arguments or comparisons to other shows.
@Sterling Muse _"Yeah, he said ghouls because that's the term Hellsing uses I think."_
The connection is older than that though e.g. Vampire In Brooklyn premiered two years before Hellsing.
That Biba guy ruined the show, he was not a good villain. But honestly I liked the show overall and I know most critics didn't like it.
You can't really betray anyone when you are Biba's little puppet from the start, but that's one of the parts that irritated me the most.
Mumei was introduced as badass that can handle herself and knows what needs to be done and how to do it, then she got desperate and reckless, getting herself and other in unnecessary danger. Furthermore in the last half she was degraded to just a manipulated brat (well until she finally realized far too late that Biba isn't the good guy in the story but then was brainwashed through drugs and used for his goals anyway).
Sure looking at her age she is a child so it's normal that she acts her age (including being bratty and easy to manipulate) but if she is a child that acts her age don't introduce her as badass.
i kinda think the name Biba sounds sassy. i don't know why
Biba wasnt even meant to be a villain, I remember Chibi saying in his character introduction implying there should be more him than that, Anti-hero status or Tragic good guy, would´ve worked best for him as a character.
Final Sebas But he clearly was a villain, for his own revenge and nothing else he goes the extra mile to slaughtered and turn hundred thousands of innocent people and destroyed multiple of the few remaining safe spaces of humanity even through he could have just ignored them since they are completely uninvolved. He is too far gone for Anti-hero status or Tragic good guy that is a villain and a bad one at it.
Well I don't deny that his introduction implies that there >>should
Gremory No he was only established as a villain by episode 9, when he had started killing multiple people, for the sake of his revenge, this was what triggered the "Biba is shit" movement and the salt, until then he had good anti-hero and tragic good guy potential, he could´ve been the Levi, or Erwin of this anime, but instead he was turned into a edgelord just cause. Even he killed that guy that was trying to kill him, he didnt look villain bad, his character was just misused and the audience caught up to that, it wasnt even subtle, which also caused the problem.
Gakkou Gurashi is an unconventional zombie story, but a zombie story nonetheless.
What are you talking about? That show was a happy story about 4 girls who started a club in school. There was even a puppy!
3 girls - the 4th joined later
+The Nobody14200 lmaoooo
The Nobody14200 Oh ya of course, how could I have possibly thought it was a show about zombies? weird...
I find that series so difficult to recommend. Not in a 'it's not worth watching' kind of way, but in a 'if you know anything about it going in you've already ruined one of the best things about it' way. I end up just trying to suggest it to people without ever explaining why I'm suggesting it to people, and ain't nobody going to just take me on faith.
Still, since the damage is already done here, yes. It's pretty great. The anime tones down the psychological horror pretty hard compared to the manga which I personally find to be a shame, but it's still a solid series.
english-kun should have been the main character
Ikoma's transformation into a kabaneri didn't really bug me since they explained why and how it happened wasn't like 'The virus didn't effect me because reasons'.
Didn't like Biba. loved the first part. Aimer and Ninelie are awesome. thanks for the review
Biba has got to be one of worst Anime villains of this decade
Didn't help that until the end Mumei didn't see him as the biggest scumbag which frustrated me SO MUCH...
Biba would´ve been good if had taken the Anti-hero role, or tragic good guy, straight up villain was too bad and didnt matched up with any sense at all!
Kabaneri's ED is better than OP.
Absoultely definetely agreed
A fair review. Nice job. One important point of trivia about the show that was missed is that it featured the return to TV of famous character designer Haruhiko Mikimoto.
Never heard of this anime, but judging by the comments, this is basically the No Man's Sky equivalent of Anime, am I right?
Not really, no lie in this anime at least.
Well, it started off pretty good, I really enjoyed the first half. But once the main villain showed up and became the focus everything started going downhill.
Nothing compares to the failure of No Man's Sky. At least this anime has a fantastic first half.
More like Mass Effect 3. If Mass Effect 3's ending was instead the entire second half.
Don't listen to Gabrihel. It's easy to forget this show. Don't waste your time on it.
re zero review soon?
It's not even done lol
+ThePikachuvirus its amazing
+G_Spark233 well i think the last episode is tomorrow
This new youtube replying format sucks, G_Spark233. It finishes tomorrow so I think it is fine to suggest it now.
It deconstructs the cliche genre of virtual reality and uses a realistic MC, while also being edgy (don't mean this in a bad way). The world building is great and the main character doesn't get anything handed to him...its the opposite.
This was and still is my favorite anime of all time, I still can’t fathom on why they cancelled it after one season
I hated how Mumei (and other characters) got a gloss-face whenever she was give emotion.
It's because WIT actually hired an "anime make-up artist" ...
Source: www.crunchyroll.com/anime-news/2016/05/08/kabaneri-of-the-iron-fortress-employs-tv-animes-first-makeup-artist
I actually loved that, personally.
The two-faces idea was slightly annoying, especially when it kept alternating in a same scene.
You know with how well put together your reviews are I'm suprised you don't have more subscribers yet.
Just try to imagine if the Kabaneri's animation budget went to animating Berserk or other LEGITIMATELY good series.Too bad that might never happen 😕
I watched the first 8 episodes of the Berserk 1996 anime adaptation. From what I've heard, Berserk is supposed to be about Guts as he travels the world, followed everywhere by demons, trying to escape from his own bloodlust. That and the supposed dark subject matter are what attracted me to the series. But so far all it's been about is Guts, Griffith and Kaska fighting for a kingdom I don't care about, against another kingdom I don't care about. Zodd showed up and talked mad shit about the behelit, and that piqued my interest but then it just went right back to meaningless, boring battles with no clear goal. Does Berserk get any better soon? I don't dislike Berserk and I'm sure it must improve at some point, but I feel like I'm missing something. I don't understand yet why people love it so much.
1996 anime is the adaptation of _Golden Age_, the flashback arc that tells how Guts came to be hunted by demons.
and i dont understand why people actually judge berserk by the horrible anime adaptations and not by the manga which is actually the thing that is praised by everyone. JUST READ THE MANGA, NOBODY SAYS THE ANIME ARE THAT AMAZING.
It will have a massive turning point and after that a few events happens which makes the manga deserving of the praise.Read the manga, the 1998 anime, despite having it's amazing music,it can never capture the masterful artwork of Miura
DeEpicAnimeFan I was planning on reading the manga at some point. It's hard as all hell to get physical copies (which I prefer), but I can always get it digitally one way or the other. Thanks for the recommendation. :)
Wait have you watched School-Live?
Hasn't Gakkou Gurashi kind of got all the zombie elements you named?
Wow am so happy I found your channel Last year, your videos are always nice to watch.
I always love the way you analyse the various anime series you come across. While I may not always agree with you I believe you communicate your views very well. Please keep up the good work. :)
I wonder if he's seen Highschool of the Dead, It's a 2010 anime that technically fits his search for the "perfect" zombie. Not the best anime IMO but it's by no means bad.
Are you going to review Tanaka-kun is always listless from last season?
Ooh boy I've been waiting for this review!
Thank you for subtitles. It really helps me understand you
You should review Pandora Hearts and I would suggest reading it after considering the anime just ends for no reason.
Can you do Re:zero review after this? It should be done this weekend
I'd love some sort of top 10-20 anime you'd recommend that are pretty unheard of, like anime that even someone who has seen a lot may not have seen yet. I'm struggling to pick my next show to go through, although I am saving some shows that I know I'll really enjoy based on their popularity/description (Mushishi, Natsume, Aria)
What if Attack of The Giants and Kalamari of the bronze foot-rest are in the same world? One in Germany and the other in Japan?
BAAHAHAHAHA KALAMARI OF THE BRONZE FOOTREST
No
Haven't watched the full video yet but I'm p sure School Live would fit your definition/criteria for a zombie anime (tho me saying that is a massive spoiler for the first episode so my bad)
I'd say best OP of the year has to go to Kiznaiver. An incredible song (and the final one from the band as one of its members had become partially paralyzed due to tumor issues) and fantastic animation and eye-popping visuals to match it. There's been a few solid OPs from the year including Kabaneri but none of them have come close to Kiznaiver's IMHO.
One of the band members is partially paralyzed? That's sad to hear. :(
No
You're right, "Take On Me" is the best anime opening I've heard in years!
Yh kiznaiver is definitely up there for best op
Take on me wasn't that good. It was a pass, but when you have shows like boku no hero and re:zero among many others... It can't get its foot in the door,
If you give it a stream it rating do you still buy the show on dvd/blu-ray?
Are there actually any good animes on Netflix beyound Death, Love and Robots and the Evangelion series?
I love this show soo much 😍 Heard there’s season 2 on the way , if it’s true that will be awesome ! ( unfortunately just found out it’s an OVA , but I’ll take it anyway 😁)
Ye the show was great, there was a ''movie'' that was released last year I think, so if ya haven't watched it I recommend watching it. Its better than the series in my opinion.
so, i know this is literally 3 years late, but i just binged and finished kabaneri the other day, with little to no prior knowledge on the series. and i think there's actually a lot of merit to the comparison between kabaneri's second half and guilty crown's ending. kabaneri had been giving me consistent GC vibes from the moment Biba killed his "assassin" outside the station. frankly, i wasn't aware others had this opinion of it, nor did i realize the two work's shared a director until just now. so surely there must be some merit to their comparison.
Biba reminds me of GC, his allies remind me of GC, the things he does to our main cast and the way the main cast respond all remind me of GC, the psychological manipulation of the masses, the antagonist's intimate familiarity with the supernatural elements of the story, biba's half-baked revenge plot wrapped up in some obscure philosophical message sub-plot, ikoma's "needing a hand", the loss of you know who, mumei's betrayal/brainwashing, even the fact that she became a damsel for ikoma to rescue by the end reminded me of GC, as well as the MC burning through his life to save her, and plenty more i can't quite remember. this second half genuinely feels like it bleeds the same blood that Guilty Crown's latter half did
Loving the new intro! ;3 sure the vid will be better!
Hey Arkada, would you ever consider reviewing the Netflix Original anime series? Series like the Seven Deadly Sins and Kuromukuro are great, and even the 3D shows they have are decent. I feel like it is a quickly expanding market, so, what do you think?
This anime had me all HYPED... Until that awful ending.... Way to go they delayed the AOT season 2 for this anime just to end it that way just no...
This anime wasnt why AOT was delayed
With all do respect it was I'd consider for you to look it up or maybe I'm wrong but almost every sources say it was delayed do to the production of Kabaneri since it from the same studio
Iv seen sources saying the manga has to be 4 arcs ahead of the animes new season but fair enough its clear you arent lying
That was probably the main reason at first but the manga is pretty far up now considering I'm up to date with it but thanks for the info
The lack of material from the manga was the reason why they delayed it initially, but Wit Studio had enough material last year after the end of the Uprising Arc, so after that they delayed it due to Kabenari
it's Attack on Titan but with zombies. Graphics 11/10, plot -2/10 character development 1.5/10
Don’t forget Steampunk. It’s way more steampunk than AoT.
@@xavi-kun Hehe. Phew boy.
@-Koneko- A fellow man of culture as well, I see 😌. Thanks man! Also, good job on those 2 shiny tentacools (although I don't really know much about Pokemon, tbh).
So, I haven't been watching your stuff to know if you take requests or recommendations for reviews, but I am really interested to see what your opinions are of Wolf's Rain or Pumpkin Scissors. :D
I thought he had a wolfs rain review out already, but I may be mistaken
Dose anyone know where I can watch this? (I cant find it on Crunchyroll)
"Shingeki no Kabane" it's the proper name
I was actually very satisfied with the anime, though it was a bit too short...
Plasma Blitz will it get dubbed
Season 2 confirmed! Sometime this year!
First time I've been this early to a GR Arkada video
is this a re-upload or did i jump timelines, i swear iv seen this very review like months ago
instantly checked the date and it was uploaded yesterday....
The four things i enjoy
ep1 to ep6
English kun
Jacked back yukina
And the op that was lit
Can you review School Live?
Isn't School-Live! kinda like what you were talking about in the beginning, but with some big quirks obviously. I haven't watched but the first couple episodes of it so I wouldn't know for sure.
Hey GR, what do you think of Mob Psychic 100 so far? (if you're watching it)
I enjoyed the show quite alot, but yeah the second half was iffy in my opinion. definitely hoping for a season two.
I honestly thought that this anime had a great potential, but it simply had poor writing and a bullshit ending.
The setting and idea behind the story was great.. But I feel like people always over-reacted in a illogical way around the kabane (And the Kabaneri), even though they should already understand the basic logic around it. Someone says "He is a kabene" and everyone starts killing each other.. It simply felt like every single human was an idiot.
The ending was bullshit. It made no sense at all and the final baddie also made no sense. But I do have to say that it did have a few nice moments in it and overall was basically a decent popcorn flick (You can watch it brainlessly without putting much thought into it.).
will you be doing a review of the 2016 berserk anime? I know it has a lot of hate because of the cgi, and I hated the cgi as well, but I was able to look past the cgi and i don't think it was bad at all and I'm really hoping they put more effort into the second season.
Really hope you do a review of Empire of Corpses, make sure to watch till the very end (after the credits). Also don't fast forward through the ending credits.
In my opinion, I would say the best opening would definitely have to be Danganronpa: Future Arc. And honestly, you should seriously contemplate doing an anime review of Danganronpa's Future and Despair Arc, once all of it comes to a close. Seeing how much the franchise has evolved after the first 2 games, and the fact that it can make you feel so much whirlwind of emotions, with a unique setting is what truly makes it a masterpiece.
This is my favorite anime at the moment.
Same :)
I just finished it and I genuinely love it.
I haven't been on this channel in awhile, but is he going to keep that look from now on?
Hey Glass Reflection are you going to do a review on the danganronpa anime series (basically danganronpa the animation,mirai-hen and zetsubo-hen)and re zero because I would really like to see your opinion on these two series?
unless he played the games he might get lost with Future/Despair. good idea tho
Justin Biba completely ruined the show.
That's too bad, because the first half of it was pretty good!
I never thought of this show as a zombie horror, though.
For that, Gakkou Gurashi does an awesome job bringing Romero's zombies to anime.
Watch Gakkou Gurashi. No zombies involved, it's a totally happy show.
Hey man, love your reviews.
Thanks!! Direct, and precise. Very appreciates by a newly branching out anime fan.
Strange she’s very similar to Mikasa I wonder why 🤔😄
Well Arkada it just ended. You know what to do.
no don't say it
I haven't seen God Eater, I've been playing the game and I'm really enjoying it, however the story is pretty meh, is the show any good?
I enjoyed the show much more than the game, however there are a lot of hangups you have to get over in order to watch it. First, the weird animation style; it's like 2.5D CG. secondly, the overabundant use of slow-mo shots.
Empire of Corpses was released on blu ray by Funi a couple of months ago.
I personally loved this series xD
If you like zombies, check out School Live.
I just spoiled the surprise, FUCK
Shhh, just don't tell them about the twist in ep 1. They'll think...you know...
UK has Kabaneri on Amazon Prime, I think the rest of Europe too.
Just thought I'd say because of what you said about where to watch.
where can i watch empire of corpses?
I adore this anime it's one of the few that made me want to re watch along side gurren lagann and DB super
Should I be watching these review vids before or after I watch the anime?
Why would you watch a review of a show you've already seen?
DJ Atomic Hmm, good point, I guess I should be forming my own 'review' of the show after watching it. And to answer your question, I think most people here actually watch the review after watching the show, which is also why those chapter by chapter/episode by episode review channels are so popular. Probably due to them wanting to hear ex-youtuber's thoughts on the show.
Actually I'm sure you're right, most people like to read/watch review for shows they've already seen. Usually GR reviews are spoiler-free so you can go ahead and watch them before watching the anime
Personally I watch Arkada's reviews both before and after, to get recommendations and to understand his opinions. If you're worried about spoilers, easy answer is to just watch it first, but if you have trouble with that his reviews usually give me a good idea about whether or not I want to watch it.
After.
Great video man, probably going to watch this, one of these months hahaha
Arkada really love your videos ,I would really apprecitiate if you did reviews on OVERLOAD and Re Zero after it ends airing .
Vote for Overlord on the Review Week of Awesome poll. :)
A major difference between Kab and AoT is that this one is a zombie series. But in AoT there's a mystery aspect. We don't know what the Titans are or where they came from. That's keeps us invested in it because we want to find out. Kab doesn't have that. And please review Bakemonogatari.
Michael Fucello well, there is some mystery I guess, the "curse" just appeared out of nowhere and now there are Kabane, and there's also the question on how Ikoma will turn Munro back into a human, how many other stations are out there? Why do the Kabane have heart cages? Idk stuff like that?
You give a bit of an overview of the story. Your overall opinion contains the WHAT, but no WHY, and even the former was lacking:
WHY, did you find the first half to be good?
WHY, did you find the second half and finale to be a trainwreck (other than it being different and 2 "narrative directions")?
WHAT is your opinion of the other characters? The action scenes? Any positives?
Arkada is not a perfect reviewer, and some of his videos do lack information, but in comparison to other anime review channels here on UA-cam, he's doing a superb job
+Xiran Wang I absolutely disagree. Reviewers like Digibro and Mother's Basement, and other random reviews I watched, all of them gave the WHAT and WHY of their opinions, and fully talked about the whole anime without just stating a popular opinion.
Without any offense intended towards Arcada, I simply don't understand why he's given so much praise.
+Buck Wade Sorry, instead of Mother's Basement, I meant to write BlackCriticGuy (as I've yet to seen any reviews of Basement's)
You don't seem to understand that both reviewers seem to have very different aims when reviewing a show, you can tell just by seeing as how different their mindsets are that Digibro wants to disect and analyze all of the elements in a show and determine their quality as a work, and he never gives a recomendation afterwards, arkada is there to go over the elements that might pull you into or away from watching a show so you can have an idea of what you are dealing with and weather you might want to watch it, and he always ends with a recomendation and sometimes mentions a specific audience for that show
This indicates that Digibro is there to TEACH what makes an anime good so you can fairly critique an anime regardless of weather you know about it beforehand or not, while Arkada is here to RECOMEND shows so that you decide what you want to watchIf you really are a fan of those type of reviewers you should really learn to identfy the purpose of a video and give it creddit based on that before mindlessly judging it since just like how Digibro teaches you that you can't hold every anime by the same standars you can't also never hold every youtuber by the same standars...
...or in simpler terms: Fuck you I like his videos
I actually appreciated Arkada's review here quite a bit since he managed to keep from spoiling anything while still explaining what he did or didn't like. I love Digibro and think he is brilliant in what he does, and his incredible writing talent keeps you interested and never feels repetitive while giving possibly the best insights I've heard given on the medium. But Arkada has built his channel under a different philosophy that values giving good recommendations and bringing attention to underrated anime many might miss out on. I won't go into all the merits of these guys, but I think comparing the two is like comparing apples and oranges: they are very different but both are delicious. I feel Arkada deserves every bit of praise he gets, personally. But no disrespect meant, just my opinion!
Hey arkada i was just wondering will you do a terra formars review there is a lot of pros and cons to talk about
If any of you have read The Larklight Series by Phillip Reeve what would you think if WIT STUDIOS had the chance to animate it.
Hypothetical question, of course.
Mindless, infectious and a shit-ton of them... dude, you're not looking for zombies, you're looking for 4Chan-users.
The toasty burn is real XD
Ohhhhhh!!!
Dude you messed up your thinking of tumblr users.
Lmao😂😂
*Tumblrets, weaponized autism from 4 Chan needs a mind to achieve
Tbh i enjoyed Kabaneri more than AoT.
Same here. AOT fanbase ended up ruining AOT for me and I ended up enjoying Kabaneri a lot more even the plot holes I noticed while watching it, still liked it more than Kabaneri
You probably also like Fairy Tail more than Hunter x Hunter as well. Or Elfen Lied more than Berserk. That's what Kabaneri is compared to AoT.
What do you get when you take four incomplete puzzles and try to combine them.
You're probably not going to respond but for the veiwers; if you could make a anime what would it be?
Gakkou Gurashi fits all of the criteria and does it well!
And to think that people say this is better than aot confused me lol
Arkada do you think the music directors use temp music in anime.
What are you talking about Arkada? _The Empire of Corpses_ has been available on Amazon and Funimation's website since July.
do a "Kimi no Na wa" review pls :)
Gakku Gurashi had kind of a similar problem--the first half of the series was really superb, and while the the second half was still good it didn't quite live up to the beginning. Still well worth watching though, IMHO.
Plus its about high schools girls and their quirky club and a puppy they find. Absolutely no zombies here. Nosirreebob.
Would you mind doing a review on a survival type anime like this one. Its called ALice in Borderland. It only has 3 OVA's and around 50 chapters of manga i wish you could review it and sort of create awareness on a barely recognised but awesome series
Could you please make a review of Monster? Never found a solid one. And also I'd like to know if you like it.
The issue with zombies in Japan is that they mostly aren't zombies but corpse demons which are mostly sentient beings. If someone want legitimate zombies he should look for Japanese show about vampires which on the other hand are mostly based on western mythology in opposition to Hollywood bullshit. And before someone say something ghouls are zombies..
Lol yeah ghouls in tg are the original depiction of ghouls but zombies are completely different
Rodney Paul No they aren't..
How are they different then
Ever hear of an anime called High School of the Dead?
Ghouls are not the same as zombies. Zombies have no intelligence, they act on the instinct to feed only. Ghouls have animal or childlike intelligence and can make decisions. Ghouls are created by black magic or being possessed by a demon, where as a zombie is created through voodoo or being bitten by another zombie.
damn AoT was 3 years ago shit time flies
Are you going to do a GR on Overlord when funimation releases the Home video in November. its a definitive buy in my book :)
Yo is this anime worth me buying because it is at $22 or should I just save my money?
Biba think he so fresh he might be in my goddamn fridge. (credit goes to AnimeCentrul for this joke! XD)
The mc is the only thing that is similar to AoT?
There are creatures that like to eat humans, so humanity has now been forced to hide behind walls. Oh wait! The wall has been burst open, we got to run away to the next town. But wait we also have people that can become one of those creatures, so now we have a fighting chance!
That sounds like both AoT and Kaba to me. It's like saying Star Wars VII isn't the same as Star Wars IV
dropped during second arc not sure if it was a good decision or not
Can you review Jigoku Shoujo, please? I'd love to hear your opinion!
