Daniel, I love your idea that the 5th book is dark. Totally makes sense. I hope Brandon goes starkly bleak (even with the death of multiple primary characters) with just a glimmer of hope, and then brings beauty and repair for a stunning consummation to end the 10th book.
I hope so. I really do. Kal is my favourite after all. But the way Brandon keeps painting him as this almost invincible (vulnerable too, yes) character who can't die, it seems to me that it's all going to pay off in a way where Kal does end up dead. But I pray to god that won't happen. I will be distraught.
Also, he is constantly called son of tanavast, the only one who is called that, and there always hints that he he is different. Could be he will do a "vin" and ascend to Honor.
Kal is favorite character, but the all the "he is immortal" talking is starting to bother me (I'm talking about the books, RoW specifically), but i agree that we will have more revelations about him and Syl
I agree with FrozenAXL, with Kaladin Stormblessed referred to as "The son of Tanavast". The fact that the honor blades came Honor's shard, and Jezrien referred to as the king of the heralds; which speaks of a bond to all the heralds and that they where kept in line by him leaves many unanswered questions. The Stormfather's comment to Dalinar about Ishar not being checked because honor isn't alive; the idea that honor wouldn't be ok with Ishar stealing bonds. Kaladin Stormblessed and Sylphrena still have a BIG role/reveal to come. Navani told the Sibling that honor still lives in the hearts of men. Hmm, so many questions...
Daniel is making me depressed. If Kaladin, Adolin & Dalinar all die and Shallan goes on, I don’t even think I’ll want to read the back 5 books. Kaladin is my absolute favorite. I often flip through chapters to see when the next Kaladin chapter is. I don’t even like Shallan. I mean, I often cringe when I get to a Shallan POV chapter. I've said this before in Daniel's RoW but I will say it again here. Daniel doesn't understand Adolin's arc in this book. The trial has been shown to be rigged from the very beginning. It wasn't supposed to be where he shines because of that fact. His arc right now is, as Eric said, being his own person.
And he still very much has agency throughout it. It was only because of his persistence with his love and respect in getting through to Maya that caused her to finally speak. It was still because of his actions that he won the trial.
@@geosustento8894 i think its more that the booktubers go to audio books instead of actually reading it. i notice alot of them just totally missing very obvious answers to there dumb questions about what happened in a book.
Something I haven't seen talked about is the fact that Odium, while explaining to Dalinar why he can't break his word, also explained what happens if Dalinar breaks his word, which is that Odium is free from what binds him to Roshar. Taravangian could see a way to exploit that. For example, he could choose Dalinar's youngest son as his champion and if Dalinar refuses or reneges on everything ultimately undoes everything that binds Odium.
I love Daniel's video about Brandon's writing problem. I only watch the cosmere stuff he does. I'm finding it more and more difficult to accept books which misrepresent mental health or use it as a magic explanation for a villain ( thrillers are usually guilty of this). I got into the Cosmere after abandoning the Wheel of Time after Book 10 (stretched too thin, collapsing under its own weight due to the number of characters) , putting down the first book of The Game of Thrones (too much misery, too brutal, was making me lose hope in the world) and being confused by a Malazan book (I don't think it was the first one). I was looking for something that did not waffle about a lot while saying little (sometimes beautiful prose can be used as a crutch to prop up a lackluster story). I went to an online forum about fantasy novels, picked up Mistborn and was hooked by the relentless pacing of the book and the magic system. Of course, I felt like a proud parent when some of my friends asked me about Sanderson when he was chosen to complete The Wheel of Time. Besides he doesn’t repeat himself where he can help it and he sort of did that with Elend for Vin. At the same time I can see it happening a little if it’s done for Adolin; so far Adolin has been shown to be the embodiment of the Edgedancer ideals and I think the fourth/fifth ideal of Edgedancers would be about sacrifice and maybe sacrificing what you want for others. 0:43:20 I think they are right about there being more bond smiths this time around, they way Brandon had specifically phased this question in his spoiler live stream "historically, there have always been 3 bond smiths at one time"... and the convo around it did suggest that things might be different this time around. Also, when we say Rabonial trying to corrupt the sibling, she was infusing the sibling with void light, and the way she was "healed" was the rhythm they discoverd that pushes out void light. Given the fact that now they the that Rhythm, along with knowledge of anti lights, I think they might be able to "re-make"? the unmade, and If any unmade is as strong as the storm father which i am pretty sure Ba-Ado-Misham is.... we're definitely going to see more bond smiths.
I'm into the idea of Brandon doing something super dark because unlike many series which are dark and gritty just for dramatic effect or for "realism", I know a dark Sanderson book would exist primarily to make the true good ending of the series shine all the brighter

I just can't see Kaladin dying. I mean it would be equal to the red wedding in terms of complete slaughter of a main character. He has been the driving character in each book of finding the ideals. I could be completely wrong and am happy to admit it. But I just feel Kaladin dying would just be series breaking. At least for me.
What the Red Wedding did - killing the main character in the middle of the story - is incredibly rare, and I highly doubt Sanderson will ever do anything like that. However, something that *isn't* like that is a main character dying at the *end* of the story. That is incredibly common. In fact, Sanderson has already done that on multiple occassions (Mistborn and Warbreaker). And Book 5 is the end of Stormlight's first arc. If you genuinely think Kalidin is safe from death, then I don't think you've properly internalized that the story arc is ending next book. Yes, the story of Roshar will continue... just like the story of Scadrial continued with Alloy of Law. Am I saying Kaladin will definately die? No, absolutely not. Ha, I picked up Elantris, couldn't get into it but l read the Mistborn blurb and bought Mistborn asap. As a fantasy series, that is completed & has hefty page counts, I suggest the Inda series by Sherwood Smith
I don't see how a child champion would help Odium at all, sure Dalinar couldn't kill a baby (probably...) but I'm pretty sure a baby couldn't kill the blackthorn either so it's a complete stalemate, which getting out of was the point of champions to begin with.
Daniel reminding me that Brandon wrote AMOL which has so many character deaths makes me very scared for W&T, especially considering the preview chapters
Brandon changed the end of Words of Radiance so Kaladin only sliced off Szeth's hand. I forget the exact details of the original but Kaladin just straight killed him in the original, and Brandon thought that was not appropriate for Kaladin. -Eric

Sam isn't a supporting character. He's as much the hero of the story as Frodo was. Even Tolkien said so.
Arguably even more of a hero.
Longform content is great content. 10 hour work days mean needing all the longform possible. Please let your reviews and chats go long. There is an audience of us who want that.
This is awesome! I’m glad they get along
Holy f'ing epic-favorite-youtube-channels-crossover-teamup Batman!!!
surprised to see Daniel in a 2 hr video haha
Ian with all the amazing takes, I love his taste in stories :)
This was awesome! So much fun 😁
This looked like so much fun. Maybe you can do it again when another one comes out
06:26 George R R Martin named Brandon The Builder for a reason 😂
On the topic of Cosmere video games, I'd love a Dynasty Warriors style game set during a past Desolation
I didn't know this is what I needed today.
I just realized that relationship dynamic between a main character and two siblings has happened four times across the cosmere
I can come up with:
Mare - Kelsier/March,
Navani - Dalinar/Gavilar,
King - Vivenna/Siri (kind of, since Vivenna didn't really have a relationship with him)
Which is the fourth?
@@pontuslindheohlsson2184 I actually totally forgot about Mare and Kel/Marsh.
Navani - Dalinar/Gavilar
Susebron - Siri/Vivenna (I counted it)
Wax - Marasi/Steris (Marasi had a crush on him for a bit in the beginning)
Vin - Elend/Zane
30:30 Daniel.exe has stopped working
The most epic crossover in history!
Great video guys, you need to have Daniel on again
I'd love to have him! He's great fun to talk to for sure. -Eric
@@17thShard Appreciate the reply Eric, thanks for the content and have a nice day
At least I'm not the only one getting shook by this!
Just finished warbeaker and starting mistborne 2. Then I'll go back through mistborne 1 and SA. I never realized all this stuff connected like it did and now that things are starting to click its fun.
Wouldn’t mind a podcast where these guys and Daniel green discus other books as well. It’s a great vid.
I like the Andy Weir approach where he took up a job as a dev and kept writing till he got one published
This was fun I too think Adolin's death is certain but knowing Sanderson it would be surely something that I'm not expecting
Thx everyone this was fun. Have you ever done more book recommendations before would love to hear some more. And maybe a bookshelf tour, when I saw you stare at your shelves I was wondering what would be on them.
Goddammit Daniel now I want a King Sanderson collab too
Hearing Cradle mentioned, I really wish there were more reviews of some of my favourite indie-published series.
Cradle, Mother of Learning, Arcane Ascension, ...
Yeah, I saw that as well. I think I was part way through Words of Radiance, and hadn't read up to that yet. It was a bit of a suprise
Oh no Ben is telling the story again 👋
ಠ_ಠ
Oh no, Ben is talking about the baby champion theory again 🗣️
That Rohar map is amazing!
I really want to have a cosmere crossover book. I mean there is a cosmere Gods war foreshadowing in the Stormlight archive. So really looking forward to that.
What video did Daniel do the map thing?
I wouldn’t be able to keep up with Brandon if it weren’t for audio books, also considering I started this year it has taken a commitment
A surprise of a cross over, but a welcome one.
Wait what's the context for 1:32:55
Brandon changed the end of Words of Radiance so Kaladin only sliced off Szeth's hand. I forget the exact details of the original but Kaladin just straight killed him in the original, and Brandon thought that was not appropriate for Kaladin. -Eric
@@17thShard oh man I like the original one. But I do agree that it is not Kaladin's style
Champions are going to be Nale vs Taln or Dalinar vs Adolin (D-A goes with Ben’s dark theory)
False. Odiums champion will be cultivation.
@@coren216 WTF
@@arshgrewal9487 they're friends now. You watch. When it happens, come back to this comment for more cosmere predictions.
@@coren216 ya but isn’t Cultuvation an entity so wouldn’t that be u know overpowered. But although With Brandon’s writing it’s definitely not going to be predictable normal warriors fight.
@@arshgrewal9487 I imagine that's a loophole Taravodium saw in the agreement. Dalinar never stipulated it couldn't be another shard.
