  • Safe cartridge tattoo machine disposable setup
    Clean tattooing is important and to avoid cross contamination it is not only about what use - it's how you use it.
    In this video some tips and trick on how I set up my Cheyenne Hawk Thunder machine with disposable tips. This method can be used with other closed type rotary machines for work with cartridges

    I've been toying with the idea of switching from traditional needles to cartridges, but I'm used to disposable grips as all of my traditional stuff is disposable, so it helps that there are disposable options out there, as I don't own an autoclave for aforementioned reasons. cheers and thank you for the tutorial!

      There are options for modern machine fitting as well as for traditional machine fitting and then there’s a special push bar. Keep in mind that cartridge needles have a bit of resistance in them due to fact that there’s a rubber membrane pulling needle back so you have to check if they will work with you set up or you might need to adjust things

    I appreciate your encouragement on the topic of cleanliness and 'sterile-chain-of-events.' Important topic. Some states/juristdictions/countries/cultures tattooing is treated with near surgical reverence where the clinitian and the client are seperated by multiple layers of medical sterilization procedures. They again, you can watch videos of people doing and getting tattoos while sitting on the dusty ground somewhere in India or Packistan, using one ink jar, one set of needles and one rag. Whaaa! how can this be? It just is. Thuman body is an amazeing thing and can heal with all sorts of pathogens. It wasn't so long ago that Tattoo sterilization techniques were less than stellar. Heck, Grandpa could have got HIS tattoo in a 'Sponge and Bucket' shop. Yup, it is what it sounds like. The tattooist whiped the tattoo off with a sponge that he rinsed out in a bucket, on everyone. All that being said, I agree, It is your responsibility as the artist to maintain the best situation that you can and that you know and keep reasonably up to date. It is just as much the responsivility of the patron to know what thier constitution, health, etc can reasonably endure. In a high volume shop? Autoiclave and Wavacide. In the jungles of Borneo? Well maybe just chew this leaf and spit on the wound or do whatever it is that the locals do to keep from dying from a tattoo. Thanks

      Very good points. In my opinion it's a bit different when it's professional business or it's a tribe thing. Part of it safety and part is responsibility if something goes wrong and that's where it's good to have some standards. But those open market on dusty floor tattoo video makes me feel funky

    I have been thinking to get a pen machine lately, but since I am too cheap to buy an autoclave I will stick to disposables for a while to come. This clip made me realize there is a possibility the ink and blood will come back up in the cartridge hole. It also makes me realize Its really crazy to see professional artists use the machine over and over at different clients in some tattoo events I joined. I even saw one artist drinking beer out of a bottle without even take her gloves off. Who knows what jerms are at that bottle? Anyway... Good info video . Thanks from Sweden

      There's disposable grips for Cheyenne pen and they are made by them. They cover fair bit of pen and rest is usually under plastic. As for cartridges they shouldn't leak back if they have membrane. Some cross contamination may happen during switching them

      @@TattooShopTalk membrane aint bullet proof. They can leak. Therefore, the pushing bar can be contaminated.

    How do adjust the throw of cartridge? Or decide which length of needle plunger is best? I recently purchased a rotary, always been a coil guy myself. I also used pre manufactured needle n disposable tube so im new to these methods

    • @TattooShopTalk
      @TattooShopTalk  3 роки тому

      How to adjust it would depend on your setup and preferences. One thing - you have to find good cartridges and you can not work with needle so much out as with regular needles due to ink flow. And how stable they are varies from brand to brand

    Thanks for this video, it's very helpful. Same as the last one, about disposible grips (which btw I'll be able to save some money. Yay!). Just because I'm stupid af and I was like: i'm gonna buy the best tattoo supplies etc. Such as RPG click grip. Which doesn't make any sense, because I'm too poor to buy autoclave machine :/
    And also I want ask if you're able to do another 'tips for beginners' type of video?
    Once I tried tattoo my friend (with some low quality coil machine) and I was so nervous because I thought that I'm gonna fuck this up (which I did, meh). My main point is: how not to have shaky hands and how to be less stressed?
    Or maybe tattooing isn't really for me 😕
    And last thing I want to ask is tattoos on figers. I did 4 on my friend's and 3 of them disapeared. I still don't know why. She told me that she wasn't really taking care of them, and just day after making these tattoos she went to a party where she drank 'just a lil bit' alcohol.
    Is this my fault cuz I'm beginner, or her, or both?
    I know it's a lot of questions xD
    Have an amaizing time answering them

    • @TattooShopTalk
      @TattooShopTalk  5 років тому

      Thanks for input. Autoclave is very important thing, if you don’t have it then go all disposable. You can look into some cold sterilization alternatives but they won’t be cheap and they won’t be safe.
      In every video we recommend to have apprenticeship and mentor and your story is proof that. Even experienced artists are not comfortable with finger and other ‘’complicated ‘’ placements. It’s good that they disappeared so there’s another chance. As for your particular experience it can be both - lack of skill and bad aftercare.
      I must say that it’s really good that you worry about and look for information.

    Great video! One question - have you tried using FK Irons Click ergo disposable grips with the Thunder? Those grips work perfectly fine with the Sol Luna and Sol Terra, with a screw-on vise connector and given that Sol grips are compatible with Hawk Spirit / Thunder and vice versa, Hawk grips can be used with Sol Terra / Luna I assume those would work perfectly on Hawk Spirit / Thunder.

    • @TattooShopTalk
      @TattooShopTalk  9 місяців тому

      I have tried them and they worked fine but we had generic ones at local supplier that were cheaper and had clicky adjustment as well. And if I'm not wrong Barber DTS have their own brand that works just fine and are more budget friendly

      @@TattooShopTalk Thank you! I saw someone saying these specific grips don't stay firm and doesn't work the best, there's a sale now, two boxes with 24 pieces for a price for 1 box and that's a great deal. Plus there's 15% on Cheyenne's shop and 20% off on Nordic tattoo supplies shop for Thunder & Spirit machines.
      I have a Lacenano that is almost new and a regular Sol Nova that I use. What is a bit scary for me is that I found ink on the Sol Nova's push rod / bar. I'm using Kwadron cartridges and there shouldn't be ink there, that I can't completely clean.
      That's why I'm considering Spirit and Thunder with disposable grips.

    Seems to me that apprenticeship is just cleaning for someone and being their grunt. Nobody can hold your hand while tattooing,they can only give you tips about lining,shading and coloring techniques which you learn as you tattoo more and more. Cross contamination is very important and very easy to learn from a class in one or two day coarse. So let me ask you what apprenticeships meant to you as you were learning?

    • @TattooShopTalk
      @TattooShopTalk  5 років тому

      Great question. I didn't have apprenticeship as it's mostly understand. I was working in tattoo shops for around 6-7 years doing piercings, desk work and helping out tattooists while slowly learning tattooing under supervision of tattooists and later on pushed into tattooing by tattooists. I am now around 3-4 years into tattooing and still I kniw that it's just a beginning. With a piercing background I had bigger focus on hygiene and in terms of learning I did all the apprentice stuff way longer than most of apprentices. I think because I liked what I was doing and also liked to help out tattooists they were cool to share with me what they know and worked for everyone.

    This process works with removable pushrod machines like this, but not for pens. I own a pen and now refuse to use it. Whenever you touch a cartridge during a tattoo and insert it into a pen-style machine, the cartridge piston penetrates deep inside to where the machine cannot be disinfected. Worse yet, manufacturers void their pen’s warranty if you get disinfectant into the piston hole!! Since machines cannot be autoclaved, this creates a perpetually cross-contaminated machine. Ive tried speaking with numerous pen and cartridge manufacturers, and everybody refuses to admit this obvious and dangerous problem.
