I find this remarkable. Nothing evokes my 60's childhood more than Postgate and Firmin's work, with that soft, reassuring voice, Elliot's bassoon and the wonderful imagery. I was brought up on Ivor the Engine on cold, wet teatimes by the fire, and Pogle's Wood on lunchtime "Watch with Mother". I had no idea that Postgate was so political, and how much diffused into his work. But the commenters are right, there was always an element of melancholia, and looking back with such nostalgia and love, I can see it then, and why it still breaks my heart now.
Olivers voice has taken me back to 1974. Even when i was 2 or 3 his voice just did something to me, Bagpuss, Ivor and the clangers were my childhood thank you Oliver
What memories, I can’t put into words how much this wonderful man means to me and the amazing programmes he gave to the world. He brought so much joy to so many children, what a gift he had. His voice is so unmistakable and his work ingenious. I never missed an episode. Iconic and inventive and incredible. And Peter was amazing and what a team full of talent. Thank you for the best childhood memories Oliver and Peter. Much loved and appreciated more than you will ever know. 🙏❤️☘️
We had a black and white TV until 1980 and I'd always thought that Bagpuss WAS orange! It was a real shock to see him all pink! Ty for posting! This is wonderful!
My wife and I look after her little nieces - aged 6 and 8 who have been brought up (prior to coming to us) on a steady diet of American computer animation so I was apprehensive about showing them Nogging the Nog on UA-cam but I needn't have worried - they were totally enthralled by Noggin, Nooka and Nogbad the Bad which is great as I get to watch all the episodes again and I'm 64.
Fantastic films with the right balance of charm, whimsy and nonsense. Wonderful that they were made and with such direct creative control. They have a huge place in my own childhood - and that of my children.
Who could not be glued to the tv in the 60's with treats like the Clangers and Noggin the Nog on to amuse and even educate. What a soothing hypnotic voice. Thank you
My Dad introduced me to these kid shows when I was little. He always says that Noggin the Nog and Pogles Wood was his favorite shows. After watching them I liked them too but I think my favorites were The Clangers and Bagpuss.
it struck me the other day that the clangers don't clang, but they whistle, but they aren't called the whistlers. we're a strange people here in the bottom left hand corner of the UK.
i think we lost something when we switched to cgi. i am impressed by this teams upcyling and i some times cant build anything. humbug these guys are eggscllent.:)

@@skawashers I seem to remember it was from "The Sea Devils", and the Master (Roger Delgado) is commenting on this strange race of aliens in pink knitting.
Mercifully, it isn't Socialism or his background in it, that comes out of these charming films. It wasn't just 'socialist' his background, you see... It was culturally traditional and part of a wonderful rural way of life that emanated from Christianity - social charity - self-restraint, fair play, and enlightened desires for a classless future of humble, common decency. There is very little in common between the New Left today and what values OP espoused in his gloriously simple and relaxing films... (quite obviously). In fact, there were plenty of very, very conservative English/British values (like much of old Labour back then) and traditional views that he shared intuitively in his films. Eccentricity, kindliness and moral decency is not now, and never was, the preserve of the socialist left. Nor is low-key ingenuity and the cottage industry ... Anti-establishment attitudes may well have been often 'socialist' back in the day - but the 60s/70s/80s socialists 'won'... They now rule the roost. Scarily, however, the likes of OP are not represented whatsoever... Their revolution (like all revolutions are) was stolen by the new elite. The warmongers today ARE the 'left'. Brainwashing is the name of their game. The BBC is fallen - quite obviously. This country's humble and good people - especially in their rural, family, social and Christian nature (whether you like it or not) - is what is attracting people to these little films. The Establishment - such as the BBC today - has indeed thrown out the 'baby' - and all we are left with for our children to watch is cold and unappealing bathwater (for all the puerile speed and gaudiness). Traditions are not all evil. Often quite the opposite. Good old Bagpuss! (Good 'Old Possum', for that matter, too!)
Thatcherism was the poison that polluted us all, but people like Postgate diluted hatred and toxic attitudes with humane tales of charity and innocence ❤
Oliver's voice is the most soothing hypnotic voice.
I feel so lucky to be a child back in those days.
I love the lo-fi sound.
I have a feeling it wasn't just his voice, but probably a rather cheap microphone, which only adds to the warmth.

Oliver Postgate's voice really is a treasure! When I have kids I swear I'm going to imitate his voice when I read them stories!
Oliver Postgate , voice of our childhood, RIP Sir.
This has really inspired me to start making little stop motions based on old British stories in my bedroom from nicknacks and clay.
I hope you went through with it! Sounds very interesting
Rest in Peace Oliver Postgate and Peter Firmin.
Oliver Postgate,Vernon Elliot & Peter Firmin Ruled my World in my early years,Thank you
I do wish more had been said about Vernon. He was the third, unsung man of Smallfilms.
Love seeing his sons talking about their dads work is such a loving way .. aw

Rural Stories.
The Wind in the Willows.
The Tale of Peter Rabbit.
I wasn't expecting to see the black and White version of the Ice Dragon in this video clip.
I don't think Oliver and Peter will ever be emulated in the U.K.
Stop-motion was wonderful I think.😉

On 23 minutes. I always used to think that Ivor was saying "fisti-cuffs, fisti-cuffs'. I was only 6 years old.

what was the stuff Removed. Was it Doctor Who?
No, if I remember correctly it was just a short section which contained of one of his older works. I think it might have been pogles wood.
