      Thanks Neil! Hopefully it won't be lightyears from now, I'd like to have it finished before the end of the year if I can 😆 That said, now that I've got quite a collection of SE&CR locos maybe I should build a compact London terminus for them in the future! Thanks for watching 👍

    Very nice review, Model Railway Guy. It really is a stunning model, even at £200, it seems well equipped to justify the cost. You can even see a representation of the motion between the frames. And the lining is great. Perhaps after a bit of break-in it'll run smoother, too. Working buffers!!
    Best.

    • @ThatModelRailwayGuy
      @ThatModelRailwayGuy  3 роки тому

      It certainly is stunning, although much of that is down to the livery though so I don't know if I would necessarily feel the same about the price had I gone for one of the more simple paint jobs 😆 Yes, it does seem to have gotten better the longer I've run it. Need to get a decoder in it too as I've found that can help too. Thanks for watching 👍

    I’ve now got my lovely Wainwright D SECR Green. I grew up in Ashford so knowing 21 of these were built there makes me happy. The detailing is truly sublime and slow crawl is so refined! For this degree of refinement I think the price is fair

      Ah fantastic, that's a great connection! They are beautiful looking models and with the price I think it comes down to the individual on whether they're happy with it or not. Like you though I'm very pleased with mine. Thanks for watching 😃

    Brilliant review the detailing on the model really is done to a high standard. Proberly one of the best 00 gauge steam locos i have seen. And i would say 200 pounds is a reasonable price in my opinion.- Nicholas.

      You're right Nicholas, the detail is done to a really high standard. That and the lining/decoration make it worth the money although I'm curious to see if those who have gone for the more plain liveries will think it's a good deal too. Thanks for watching 😃

    Great review, its a lovely looking loco, I have noticed that other liveries are slightly cheaper (especially BR liveries) but never the less it's a fantastic model

    • @ThatModelRailwayGuy
      @ThatModelRailwayGuy  3 роки тому +1

      Yes I can see why they've done that and I didn't mind paying a little extra for the SE&CR one because the lining is so involved. But if you take that lining and decoration away it's a fairly average model in my opinion, so I'm interested to see what people think of this loco when the less flashy liveries as released. I've been very on the fence about buying this engine because of its high price and Dapol's OO reputation. When I heard last week that it had traction tyres that really put me off. But now hearing that they come with a separate wheelset to replace makes me feel a bit better. Excellent review!

    • @ThatModelRailwayGuy
      @ThatModelRailwayGuy  3 роки тому +1

      Yeah I can definitely see why some might be a bit cautious with this loco. It certainly looks very nice but it is a high price tag and Dapol have a somewhat mixed track record.
      I do think the traction tyre situation has been handled well though. While not ideal I can see why they added them but I do think that second wheelset without the tyres was a good idea for those that don't like them. I must get round to swapping out the wheels on mine to see how much difference it makes! Thanks for watching 😃

    Hi
    I don't get why they traction tyres
    Some loco of 4-4-0 design by other manufacturers don't have them eg Bachmann city and Dukedog d11 and hornby d16.
    Look highly detailed
    Just need to improve qc.
    Dapol 43xx is a lot better model in my opinion
    Keep safe arp

    • @ThatModelRailwayGuy
      @ThatModelRailwayGuy  3 роки тому +1

      Hey Adi, usually the traction tyres are added because the manufacturer feels the loco hasn't got enough power to pull a train behind it. Even with the metal boiler the D Class still feels like the weight isn't fully over the driving wheels to me so I can see why Dapol went for this. At least they've given us the option of removing the traction tyres if we want which isn't always the case with other models. Thanks for watching 😃

    I'll be honest, i personally don't think its worth £200, £125-£150 maybe but considering most of the "metal" details are and just look like they are made of plastic, its really off-putting, but thats just me though.
    what i will say though, is having a physically identical model be a tenner cheaper just because of livery doesn't make too much sense to me, like i get the secr one is intricate but making the other livery cheaper means they can clearly afford to make all the others that bit cheaper too.

    • @ThatModelRailwayGuy
      @ThatModelRailwayGuy  3 роки тому +1

      Fair enough. I think if someone specifically wants a RTR D Class then most likely it's worth the price to them - but if it's just another pretty loco then there are probably equally nice models out there at a lower price.
      With the liveries I think it's all the intricate ones that have the higher price tag and all the simple ones that have the lower price tag. (3 of each I think?) Obviously the more complex liveries require more passes so painting takes longer and requires more work than the ones that are more plain. Thanks for watching 😃

    • @PebProductions46
      @PebProductions46 3 роки тому

      I personally think that the nice SECR lined green is worth an extra 10 pounds, but on the flip side I don't think I could buy a Southern plain Black one for £189 and ever be able to sleep again. That's the part that gets me. I know it's an exclusive and all but come on!

    • @ThatModelRailwayGuy
      @ThatModelRailwayGuy  3 роки тому +1

      @@PebProductions46 I think you've hit the nail on the head there. The lined green livery was a big part of why I was impressed and what justified the price for me. Take that away and it's not a bad model but it's fairly average. I think I would be a bit disappointed if I'd payed £189 for the Southern Plain Black too. Thanks for watching 😃

      Hornby did an A1 Stepney a few years ago but they were really popular and have since sold out I think. That said, with next year being the Terrier 150 celebrations there's a chance Hornby may do Stepney again in his preserved A1X state. Not that I have any inside information but they'd be silly not to in my opinion! Thanks for watching 😃
