  • It's now time to replace my beloved Genesis running shoes and it's about time I ventured into the world of running poles. Much needed given the big adventures coming up such as running the route of the UTMB, Lakeland 100 and Tor des Geants (Tor330)

    Good evening,
Fantastic videos, enjoy chamonix!! Quick question - not shoe related - Garmin watch strap is very nice, where did you get it from?
    Looking forward to more videos!!

Should add its a 6X that I've got, which this strap fits!

Hey, what are your thoughts on those Salomon poles after a while ? I’m like you finally after years deciding to use some but I hesitate between those ones and the Black Diamond ones which seems a bit faster to assemble

Hey there! Tbh I love the Salomon poles. They're as easy to put up/take down as any I've seen. I really like the handle grip, lends itself to many different grips depending if using the poles for descending /ascending/flat. I wouldn't be without them now for any ultra with a substantial climbs!

You mentioned you went with a half size up from your normal size. I find myself always in the same boat. I sometimes go up a half size to account for swelling in ultras. It really just depends on the shoe, there's no guarantees with that philosophy from brand to brand. Have you had time to run in the new pair to figure out if they are in any way "slightly" too big or is the fit still perfectly fine in comparison to the old pair?

Indeed, always a risk. Tbh I thought it hadn't paid off. Used them whilst over in chamonix for a quick up and down a 1000m climb. The extra space wasn't good, could feel my foot moving about too much, esp on the descent. However I then used them to run 100k on the tmb and they were great. Obviously moving a bit slower so not the same issues. And at the end feet felt great!

How do you find the width in the S/lab? I tryd the normal genesis and felt them a bit narrow.

Yeah I heard they were a bit narrower. I've got fairly wide feet and the S-lab fit well although I'd certainly not say they were roomy!
