To anyone wondering why the plants could be red there, it is because kepler-186f is orbiting a red dwarf type star, and it's red-wavelength photons could be affecting the plant's photosynthesis making them red.
Is it because red is more similar to infrared?[edited: I wrote ultraviolet instead of infrared] Yeah, sorry for the oversimplification and my bad English but I thought that red seems a weaker colour than green, I don't know why I have this feeling, I may have seen something related to colour waves somewhere
@@andyc.. I don't know the explanation. Maybe it's just that the potential plants on planets orbitting red dwarfs (m-type stars) are eating so much red "sun" rays which they need to live and grow from it's star that it just turns them red
Not true, chlorophyll is specifically “green”, and there are plants on earth with red pigment too, for example the red algae (which is a plant) is found in deep ocean depths and contains the pigment “phycoerythrin” which provides it the red color.
Grow up you kids, he is not talking about some computer game, or fictional book series, he is talking about *reality,* here! Sorry for the dope slap, but think about that! What he just told us about, a _real planet_ in another solar system, is True! The adjective "incredible" falls short, and even "astonishing" might not cover all of it! 🌟🌟🌟🌟 (smile face with tear in eyes emoji).
it's kinda complicated and I honestly don't really understand it but it's something like - it reflects light from the infared spectrum from its star because that's the light that the star shoots out the most which helps making its photosynthesis more efficient. infared light appears red to the human eye.
I just wanna live there 🥹 But can't 🥺 Imagine a small peaceful community of people living there without destroying the planet, no wars just peace and love Don't know why this just came to my mind
That planet is actually closer to being like Mars. It's as cold as Mars. (a bit colder actually). It's a similar mass as Mars. (the earth is unusually dense and is the densist planet in the solar system). So even when a planet is the same size as earth, it's unlikely to have the same mass (which is the case here). One of the reasons Mars doesn't have much of an atmosphere is because it lacks mass to create enough gravity to hold on to a thicker atmosphere. That lack of atmosphere means there isn't enough pressure for water to exist in liquid form. You see, if you reduce pressure enough, it stops being possible for water to be liquid regardless of temperature. It just goes straight from ice to gas, and from gas straight to ice. It's why Mars doesn't have liquid water (presently). Not enough pressure for water to exist in liquid form. If you take ice to Mars, and heat it, it sublimates straight into a gas. It doesn't melt because liquid can't exist below a certain pressure. (it's how freezdry machines here on earth works, that instant coffee and many other food and pharmaceutical products) Kepler 186f has the same problem as Mars. It only has 1/3rd the mass of earth (dispite being the same size...because the earth is unusually dense due to having an unusually large iron core...the Earth is 35% iron). That same very high iron composition of the earth, is why some of our core is able to be liquid iron (the outer core). It flows like ocean currents which produces the magnetic field (part of it). The rest of our magnetic field is actually produced by ocean currents and ionized hydrogen high up in the ionosphere. That hydrogen isn't being stripped away at a father rate, because of the other two magnetic fields (the ocean of liquid water with currents and the ocean of liquid iron in the outer core with currents). Kepler 186f is also located on the far edge of the habitable zone, just like Mars. Hence why both are around the same freezing average temperatures (-85°C). Also there's a 50% chance the planet is tidally locked, and 50% chance it has a very slow rotation. The planet is almost 600 light years away, hence why so little is known about it and so much outlandish speculation is allowed to persist. With current technology, it isn't possible yet to determine it's atmosphere's composition, or other things. Mas can kind of be inferred by its interaction with the orbits of the other planets in that system. The Earth is formed from two planets. An inner rocky planet and an ice planet called Theia that collided with proto-earth (a very gentle collision that didn't turn earth into an asteroid belt). Theia somehow came from the outer solar system, somehow get slowed down, and landed almost exactly in our orbit...and then slowly creeped up on earth and gently collided. An extremely unlikely sequence of events. So Kepler 186f is likely either an ocean planet (there won't be terrestrial plants). Or its rocky planet with no water. It's not normal for there to be water in the habitable zone, where rocky planets form. Because rocky planets are the skeletons of failed gas planets that had their gas striped away by the star due to being so close to the star. Hydrogen (the lightest element that gets blown away the easiest) is needed for water, hence why all the water in our solar system is far out in the solar system...and it's not normal to have water in the habitable zone. Which is why Kepler 186f is either an ice planet that started in the outer system and spiraled inward into the habitable zone. Or is a rocky waterless skeleton, that has always been there and had it's hydrogen stripped due to being that close when the star was young and violent.

"Black plants" that absorb whichever energy their stars emit? What about feeding on different kinds of stars? 💡 There could be "plant life" that absorbs gamma radiation, x-rays, radio waves, and other energies that would obliterate Earth life! Instead of being based on carbon, they could be based on heavier elements, with stronger molecular bonds that require greater energies to be metabolized. 👾☘️ Yes, thanks Raphael.
