How technology, colour, SFX, CGI, production, directing, textiles, make-up, automobiles, locations, settings and planes etc have changed the film industry to be noisy, fast, complicated, bloody and swearing etc, when compared to these masterful and simple and innocent films of enjoyment. Some of the old classics of 1950 and 1960s sci-fi and children's stories are so enjoyable. Thank you for this movie.

I don't think that was ever meant to be an issue 😂 The book was never, ever meant to be taken literally as some sort of children's book. It was written at a time of great political censorship and is allegorical!! It's a biting satire of the ruling classes and the politics of the day. People of the time would have known who the characters were parodying. It was never a children's story.

@@LuciThomasHardylover-qx6ts Oh, great, I just commented (higher up posted, or lower) in the same way. Jonathan Swift wrote in a myth style, to ensure his books would escape from being banned, and he himself convicted for subversive political agitation against the English society. :-)
Very few people ever read the book in it's original form. Most do not have the faintest idea it was NOT a kid's story :-)

*Saw this at the theater when I was a kid, and wished I could be Gulliver, to evade all the bullies in school. Thanks for reviving those memories, of far better days in America too. Days when Family Friendly left us with Hope for a Great Future, on Earth, and Beyond.* 👍👍 10⭐
Sadly those days are no more.

Well said, but to watch something like this that is meant to instill hope and then to be without it rather defeats and undermines the purpose of things like this. So don't be without hope, we simply must build that better World again! Happy Thanksgiving to you, and while we are at it, a Merry Christmas to you too and God Bless!

There's also the 1939 animated film and the 1996 miniseries by Hallmark which is the best version of Gulliver's travels in my opinion because it's the closest to the book and a great performance by Ted Danson, you should definitely check it out and you'll love it.😤👌💕🔥✨

This film is my favorite because of the lessons it teaches. Even though Gulliver had every reason to cause harm, he showed restraint and went the path of kindness even when it was a detriment to himself. By setting an example of love, he touched the hearts and minds of allies in each population. Id be happy to share my afterthoughts more in depth if you are interested.
Another lesson to take from the film? Karma doesn't discriminate by size, only by hearts and deeds.@@FamilyTime_TV

At the age of 6, this was the first movie I saw in a theater. I enjoyed the story of Gulliver being a giant, and then a tiny man. In this state he became vulnerable. The young dark hair girl (Shirley Smith) fascinated me. To me, she looked strikingly beautiful, with a cold heart. She was the star of the movie. This frightened me. I knew i must keep my feelings, that I loved, her a secret.

I noticed that while Redresal was engaging in conversation with Gulliver, Redresal was reading more than Gulliver's words. Judging by Redresal's expressions, he was discerning Gulliver's sincere answers. I'm willing to bet that Gulliver and Redresal both knew that both had nothing to gain by lying to each other. A prime example of this is when Gulliver stated where he was from. In response to this Redresal gave a subtle nod as if he genuinely believed Gulliver. To him it only made sense that clearly, Lilliput and Blefescu weren't the only places since Gulliver's tangible presence proved otherwise.

A little history lesson: Long before George Lucas & Harrison Ford, the great Kerwin Matthews worked with Ray Harryhausen's stop-motion creations in *The 7th Voyage of Sinbad, (1958)* and again in *The 3 Worlds of Gulliver (1960)* as a doctor whose foes this time around included a giant squirrel and alligator. He then played the countrified folk legend *Jack the Giant Killer (1962)* and again found himself saving a princess while pitted against evil wizards and other specially-designed effects (by Jim Danforth). Other less arduous films he made included the WWII war drama *The Last Blitzkrieg (1959)* with Van Johnson, the crime thriller *Man on a String (1960)* with Ernest Borgnine and his third-billed role behind Spencer Tracy and Frank Sinatra in *The Devil at 4 O'Clock (1961)* in which he and Tracy played priests.

From about 1:01:30, something starts that she doesn't think they should finish. Gulliver decides to have the little girl wake the king up in the middle of the night so Gulliver and his betrothed can ... finish.

I don't suppose most kids watching this would understand the significance of his request for a midnight wedding.

In the 1960s when there wasn't too much on TV it ran in prime time on the networks every three weeks as a movie of the week. Meanwhile ted danson, Chris Farley, and Jack black were working on their own versions of Gulliver in the early 1960s.

From the days one could be completely blown away by a movie. Nowadays too many movies are AI fake and we know that, taking away the magic of watching a movie. In those days the music was tailor made, time was taken for dialogue, the camera work was splendid and tranquil, acting was generally good (in this movie some are truly B-actors). In that spirit I will never understand why a movie such as Avatar can cost 250 million dollars. I was bored silly after trying to watch that disaster, and rather watch dozens of movies like this one.

I guess by 3 worlds they mean these two and the normal world at the beginning. Kind of a shame they
didn't do those. I think another half hour could have been used but then
They would have to rush thru those last two. Another hour could have worked but then the runtime would've been too long. Maybe they will make another adaptation one day. a miniseries could be pretty good. Every episode could be one of his travels. We'll see.

As usual, apart from a lot of free interpretations sailing far off from the original novel (to turn it into a childrens story while it was written for adults...), the fourth voyage is missing out as usual. To be truthfull, in part 4 there is nothing much left that can interest children (still if you want to respect the original book...), as 90% of that part is sarcastic critique in dialogue form (and even in long monologues) on the English society. Ted Danson's film (1996) is the only one I know who included the 4 travels.
