This is legitimately my favourite channel on youtube. There's something magical about someone digging up nearly forgotten stories and telling them again. It brings us all a little closer to history and I love it.
+
I agree I love these videos soooo much
The violent deaths are unsurprising when you consider that the name "Boot Hill" is a common name for cemeteries for people who died with their boots on. That is, unexpectedly and not usually peacefully.
This channel feels like finding a hidden gem in a 150 year old newspaper. Its a real shame you don't have more subscribers because your videos are really really great.
Mrs. Alderson a real one!
Great video
In my head I like to think it was Mrs Alderson who pulled the trigger but John took the rap for it just in case the law deemed it murder, as the only way he could think of to repay her loyalty to him. That's the only way you could make that last story even cooler.
That makes a lot more sense!
Here's to Mrs. Alderson!
This genuinely is such an underrated channel. Every video is quality and gives the exact same feeling as an older family member sharing stories and tales from long before you were ever around.
I definitely think it's important to remember these people and their stories. Even those who died and were never written about.
We actually take good care of them! And we do try to tell as many previously untold stories as we can. Oh lol sorry, my work is associated with this cemetery, I just went over there today! One of our volunteers is a death historian and is actually trying to put old burial records into more useful shape, and is working to track down as many names & stories as we can. Those lost to tragedy and misfortune are in our hearts and we’re honestly happiest when we can put these folks into their proper place in history. They are always on our minds.
I hope to die in some slightly notable or comedic way so that someone, 140 years later, can commicate the story to the world through a technology I could never comprehend...
the video i didn't know i needed until now!!!!!!
i really love your videos about cemeteries, whether their inhabitants, their architecture, their geography... always a treat to sit down and learn something special about these little places!
Hiiii! Hope you see this! A volunteer at my work - the western heritage center - is working on even more research for boothill and other early burials, please feel free to reach out if you ever return. He was a mortician for 20 years, then the superintendent of the big cemetery, & now a death historian who just wants to make sure everyone is remembered & accounted for.
Also we have photos of the old headstones. Many are so heart breaking and very vivid, it would make most people extremely sad to see them. But you can contact us if you are ever interested & back here, right in billings. We aren’t the museum by the airport, we are downtown & are more of an interpretive center.
Down at Coulson Park on the river, there's a big stone with a plaque on it that says:
"Born by the River, and killed by the Railroad, giving to Billings her best citizens, to Boothill her residue, and to the Yellowstone, her memories."
6:00 That's the way the shiteagle flies Randy!
Mr. Lahey vs Bill Preston! history said it couldn't be done!
I hope when I die there is a future dime store adventures to tell my story 🥰
This just gave me 1 more on the list of many reasons not to trust people named Dutch
Awesome work, as usual!
Truth is Funny as hell
Thank you for teaching me my Montana history 🫡
It's true, the story of the beauty of the sky in Montana. What wonderful pictures you have taken! Thank you.
Thank you for the conviction that even ruffians are human beings and have the right to be remembered.
Shot through the jugglers vein. Must’ve been a carnival in town.
Big Horn... Sioux... I think we can guess which skirmish that was.
(Died in the Battle of Little Big Horn.)
How many residents in Yellowstone County even know that is there?
What I would do to learn what was going through the head of the bar tender who watched a man walk into his bar and say “whelp finally going home tomorrow” followed by him promptly throwing his gun on the bar and accidentally shooting himself dead
Hey I grew up around the Bighorn Mountains. YOu should check out the old Sheridan, WY graveyard.
Love it, wild west for sure
What happened to the headstones? Are the bodies still buried there?
Way weird to hear my name in one of your cemetery tours.
