    Another great image. This one has 'inspirational poster' written all over it. I would have definitely packed up (or not headed out at all) in those conditions. I can now see it's worth the punt. Like everyone else has stated, love how you are covering many facets of photography and especially giving us an insight into your thought process about scouting, selecting and capturing the locations

    • @Andrew_marr

      Thanks a lot Beau. While challenging, I often find these conditions the most exciting. Glad to hear you're enjoying the thought process, I hope to work on this some more in future videos. Now it's time to get you out there, I hear Nannup calling!

    Hi Andrew
    Wonderful video about finding beautiful images even in cloudy, rainy, darker conditions. Doesn't always have to be sunrise or sunset light!
    I thought the scenery of the hike down to the water was beautiful too. The boulders and shrubbery at around 4:30. Maybe a composition another time?

    • @Andrew_marr
      @Andrew_marr  7 років тому

      Thanks Mark, I actually like these sorts of conditions as it provides the opportunity for moody images. I think you are right, there may have been a nice shot there. I'll have to check that out next time I visit this location...which hopefully is not too far away!

    You have great videos. They are the best I've found on photography! I kinda bummed that I'm reaching the end of everything you have published as I'll have to wait for new ones instead of working my way down the list. Keep up the great work. You are an inspiration!

    New subscriber from Miami here. Just wanted to say that I have been really enjoying your videos. Admittedly, I still don't know all that much about photography -- but hope to learn more through your content. You seem like a really genuine, down-to-Earth kind of guy and it's something quite rare these days on UA-cam. Keep up the good work. X

    Another great video, Andrew! Really enjoyed your discussion on your decision-making in terms of the wave cycle timing. It'd be nice if in a future video you could do an 'About Me' segment telling us about your start in photography, etc.

      Thanks so much, I'll work on including more of that aspect of my decision process in up coming videos, that feedback is very helpful. Thanks also for the suggestion, I'll take it onboard and see what I can do. I tend to not talk about myself much to avoid boring everyone. :)

    I like your videos a lot. Refreshingly different because you really address a lot of the topics around photography (and not editing) like getting up early, how to shoot when away with your family, etc. Keep going. This style is really quite nice. And your pictures are as well. You focus on good composition instead of just messing with the sliders in Lightroom.

    Great video, enjoyed all three that I have watched. Great final photo. No criticism here but I think I would have stayed at that location a bit longer as maybe with the rain coming in the might have been some photos opportunities with more dramatic sky and as Serge Ramelli would say plenty of drama.

    • @Andrew_marr
      @Andrew_marr  8 років тому

      Hey thanks John, I appreciate your feedback and comments. I love stormy clouds and dramatic skies, that why I don't mind going out in these sorts of conditions. What doesn't come up well in the video is how much it was actually raining. As I was climbing up the rocks in the last scene, it was starting to really come down hard with no end in sight. We received over 100mm of rain over the next two days. The clouds unfortunately had no definition to them, even with a polariser. You are right though, these conditions can provide some great photographic opportunities, perhaps I just need to harden up! :)

    Just come accross your channel, great info location and shot, just my observations, the time you start to the first shot is too long, I know the weather was not perfect but we got that pretty quick, also your histogram jumped to the right which indicated you increased the exposure, but you said you were going to underexpose, it may confuse some. only picky points but overall a great video, keep it up.

    • @Andrew_marr
      @Andrew_marr  8 років тому +1

      Thanks Robin for the feedback. The art of story telling through video is one I'm still working on and will hopefully continue to improve. Nice pick up, I was increasing the exposure. Part of the issue I think was that I was under pressure with the weather literally a few 100 meters away and closing fast and I mixed some terms up. There was no time for a second go at it! Thanks again!

    Great video and amazing image under such awful conditions. One question, how do you clean your camera and lens after being exposed to so much salt water? Thank you

    • @Andrew_marr
      @Andrew_marr  8 років тому +1

      Thanks so much Tony! Good question, I have plenty of cloths that I use to keep the lenses clean while I'm shooting. I give everything a wipe down after a trip so no salt is sitting the equipment for any length of time. The camera is water resistant (thank goodness) so the outside is mainly rubber or plastic. I usually focus on cleaning around the metal parts, the odd screw that's exposed. The lens I use are the same so a quick wipe is all they need. The filters are the things that seems to get the most dirt on them. I'm careful to wipe around the thread so no salt or sand grains are left there, that might ruin the thread the next time I attach it to the lens. I also check everything just before I go out so I'm not trying to clean lenses or filters for too long when I'm on location. While I might give them a quick wipe just before I attach them, I want to avoid having to do lots of cleaning when I should be focused on capturing an image. Hope that helps! :)

    Hello Andrew, May I ask which model of F-Stopbackpack in black do you use. I have been contemplating getting either the Tilopa or Satori but must be able to be carried on the plane as hand luggage. And to be honest, I am at a loss at present what to buy. I bought 2 other backpacks but not suitable. Regards, Allan.

    • @tarkikdutta229

      Hoping to see some summer photos! Try some more valley shots. Btw how do you plan your trip?

    • @Andrew_marr
      @Andrew_marr  8 років тому

      It varies depending on where I go. If I'm familiar with the location, I'll have a pretty good idea of what I want to do, however if it's a place I haven't been before then, I'll do some research on Google maps to get a sense of the area and find what other photographers have captured so I know what to prepare for. Valley shots may be a challenge as we don't have many hills or mountains here.

    • @tarkikdutta229
      @tarkikdutta229 8 років тому

      Yeah Australia doesn't have lot of mountains I guess. Nevertheless Seascapes are worth mentioning.!

      You are 100% correct, sorry about that. I'm currently working on a iPhone app for schools to use (nothing to do with photography) and iOS rolls off the tongue at the moment. Unfortunately there was no chance I could change it once I got home and watch the footage back. I'll be more careful in the future! :)

    Great video Andrew, I have just found you on UA-cam and will be exploring your other work now. You remind me of a guy here in the UK, Thomas Heaton (www.thomasheaton.co.uk and ua-cam.com/video/KuyA60gbbU0/v-deo.html). I visited WA and few years back and your vid reminded me of the great colours in the rocks, sky and sea that you get there. Happy days ... and keep making more content.

    • @Andrew_marr
      @Andrew_marr  8 років тому

      Thanks so much David, I'm glad you found my channel. Thomas Heaton has a very inspiring channel I enjoy his videos. For you to say I remind you of him is very humbling, so thank you! I think I have a way to go before I get to his standard. The fact you have been to WA, would give you some context to some of the locations I photograph. You are right, we are spoilt when it comes to the colours we can get here. Thanks again for your kind comments!
