I can't imagine the hurt and pain Jimmy must have felt when his son didn't love him. Being a father myself, I love my son, couldn't imagine him not living me back.
I'll never forget where I came from. Being Mexican-American is something I'm proud of. I would never disrespect my family like that... but I do love white woman LOL old or young
White women be something else i lived in an all mexican hood and have dated many but when i moved to Minnesota for school snow bunnies be sexy as hell and on another level im serious
Once again we see the effects of an absentee father....i mean, no one has shown that kid how bad ass the millenium falcon is and what it did for the rebels! For same!
There's absolutely nothing wrong with Memo's success, ambition or his choice of fiance. There is, however, everything wrong with the self-hatred he suffers. He is embarrassed by his Hispanic background and by his own family traditions and circumstances; it shows all over his face and by how he cuts off his father each time he tries to talk about the family history.
memo is the perfect example of many "assimilated" mexicans that disregard their cultural heritage because of the social stigma attached to the label of mexican..you should be proud the great culture your born into... i have nothing against bettering yourself, but never forget where u came from and don't ever change because of what ppl portray u as
Ya right, the Los Angeles area is majority Latino, with ton's of mixed marriages and neighborhoods where whites and latinos grow up together. I've never seen a Chicano named Carlos rename himself "Charles" 😂 This is a good movie, but they really go out of their way to hate on white people
Ahh the Frisco Ben’s also known as the cholo polo... if you grew up in East LA you know of that shirt, probably even owned one. Very popular amongst the Latin community
@@juneclark4267 Hahaha!!!!! My parents house is a sh*thole as well lol, I made sure my fiance's family met my parents at a restaurant.... a "classy" one
What a way to make a first impression. Having your little nephew standing on the coffee table yelling insults in spanish to the in-laws. Welcome to the family! LOL. Ugh. Memo. He's the embarrassment to his family.
man, if i was the father of memo in dat situation, and if he acted ashamed of his culture especially in front of me, i would look at him and say " wow, i thought i raised u better than that". U should always be proud of ur ethnicity. Especially even if another thinks or acts that there somehow "better" or "superior" than urs! be proud of who u are, no shame
back in the day, when this movie came out, I heard about it, but never bother to go see it, I was thinking about this movie the other day, and I found it here, thank you to whoever posted this movie. Coming from a dysfunctional family it really hits the core on me. There is not much that you can do to change your family and the way they are. Years will pass, some eventually die and you still can't change them., you rather have to change.
You know. It’s America. In America it is in the amendment (freedom of religion) to be proud of your heritage and ethnic culture. So keep being proud as I am proud to be Filipino American.
2:46 hit me hard and made me tear up. Me and my sons mom separated and i didnt get to see my son as much. I work in law enforcement and they bumped our mandatory OT to 8 extra shifts a month. My son started to distance himself from me. One time i asked him to sleep over my house with me and he refused like this moment. I felt like Jimmy did and wanted to jump off a bridge driving home. My son was around 5. Thankfully i did everything to be in his life more these past years. We're close as ever. As I'm typing this im going to pick him up later to stay with me the next 3 days. We're going to a Ducks game tonight and Disneyland on Wednesday. He's 8 now. Always be there for your kids guys, never lose out on those core memories for a job, gang, or other reasons.
lo peor que puedes hacer es avergonzarte de tu raza de tus raices y lo unico que nos puede avergonzar es ser criminales. que buen mensaje deja esta parte
Seriously, and I have Mexican friends too, and I'm Filipino. To me, my social life does not discriminate what so ever. In fact I happen to like Mexican girls since I used to date a few in my life time.
It's funny how in blood in blood out Montana always talked about raza and family and all that and in this movie he wanted to hide where he comes from and what his family is about.
A serious one. Just because the dad was not in his life, does not excuse him to be disrespectful to his father. I don't care you respect your elders no matter what.
If you're meeting your kid after "being away" for a few years, you should NEVER buy them presents as a way of winning their love. Money can't buy happiness.
In my family I have uncle name William but everyone calls him by his middle name "Cornell" and his son is called William (though I say we pronounce it as "Wii-um" instead of "Will-iam") but my uncle apparently had his white friends and colleagues call him "Bill" so it really funny when people call the house asking for a "Bill" and my grandmom said "who?" as she didn't know a "Bill".
@TheHeckyea yep. i agree with that. A TRUE friend accepts who and what you are whatever you may be. I went to Australia last september to go visit my mate and we got along just fine. I spent the whole time over at his house (no hotel) and his family loved me and i loved them and we all got along and drank and ate together! Also: the friends i have never knew anything about Latino culture until they met me ;D. Hell, even my guy is white, haha.
i don't know about you guys but i ALWAYS like to talk about my culture to other people especially White folks. Fortunately i do have white folks as mates of mines. Aussie, Irish, English, Dutch, Yank.. Yeah, its wicked awesome. It feels really cool and weird to be a Latina in this group of all-white folks, lol. And i love it!
Right?! Try this. My god children are White, Black and Filipino mixed. And my wife is Chinese and I’m Filipino. We were all born here in America. My ex fiancé was Chinese white and Mexican mix and I would have ended up with Chinese white Mexican and Filipino combo.
Simple. From an absentee father filled with anger and incarcerated. Yet the family didn’t do anything to ameliorate those hardships raising him, but only to relay the message that his father is dead and gone. Courtesy from what Paco was told.
Bill is just being himself. Ever since he was a little kid he didn't relate to the rest of his family. While his brothers and sisters were goofing off, he was "always doing homework." How is he trying to impress his future in-laws? Again, if he was ashamed of his family he would have never taken his future in-laws to his parent's house.
@RyanFresh yeah! Cause we were watching this movie in Spanish, and when he gave Carlitos the Millennium Falcon toy, I started laughing, and nobody understood why, not even after i explained it to them...
Bill is getting a lot of hate on this board. He is not ashamed of his family. If he was, he would not have invited his future in-laws to his parents house. During this time period it was not uncommon for educated minorities to change their name to sound less ethnic. He is not Mexican anyway, only his father and mother are. He is just a reflection of where he was raised.
Isn't ironic how Carlitos said the same thing to his father-get out! Like Jimmy's father said to his son, Chucho?-get out! It's like reversed dude! o,o
Seriously. The absentee father in Jimmy which was the result of him following chucho’s footsteps made Jimmy’s attitude towards him rebellious with an abhorrent attitude. This is the ripple effect in straying away from the nuclear family.
@zzCorruptedzz of course i do and my Salvadorean culture aswell. But i also mix in with their's too. "Their's" being the white, European folks i was talking about in my old comment from months ago. They learn from me and i learn from them. They like me that i am able to mingle amongst them. That i am able to talk like them, and that i am able to understand their culture and the way they talk. And even whilst amongst them i remain Latina and they love that too. :)
I can't imagine the hurt and pain Jimmy must have felt when his son didn't love him. Being a father myself, I love my son, couldn't imagine him not living me back.
Damn he got the Millenium Falcon 😳😳
There's nothing grandpas old belt won't fix for that bratt carlitos lol
Yep! A good old fashioned smack will take care of the problem 😁👍
Hahaha or the magic of the chancla!

1:33 Funny thing about Jimmy gifting his son the Millennium Falcon. The Actor Jimmy Smits, went on to be Bail Orga in the Star Wars Prequels.
Once again we see the effects of an absentee father....i mean, no one has shown that kid how bad ass the millenium falcon is and what it did for the rebels! For same!
If he only knew it made the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs
@@REY-RUM lmao
This scene is almost as touching as when Darth Vador hacked his son's arm off 😢
The part where jimmy goes to where Chucho was shot just makes me cry
Especially being estranged from his son reinforces that void. Man Jimmy Smiths played a good role. Such a powerful actor indeed.
"PINCHE GABACHOS!!!" lmaooo! I LOVE THAT KID!

Carlos destroys the Millennium Falcon...which is likely now a collector's item. XD

No, it's not
Hispanic culture is just Cali Chicano culture. This is the result they become trash in America its normal.
