I vaguely, remembered this song from my youth and have recently remembered it after sad events..P.J. Your brilliant with a voice even stronger than Elvis X
I probably heard P.J.Proby thanks to Boom Radio and that was sometime in 2023 singing "Somewhere " He has a remarkable voice which lends itself to a powerful rendition of the song and for me that is more than enough.
Used to watch him on Top of the Pops in the UK. He was so different to other singers - so dramatic and this amazing song which at the time we didn't realize was from West Side Story. Still love his version of this song
Sad people on here commenting on his hairstyle, bollocks to that!! What a bloody amazing voice and talent. He had it all in every way that others could only dream about. Judge him on his talent!!! Wake up and smell the coffee, treasure him while we still have him!!
This is a very special song for me as my very good friend, DJ EMPEROR ROSKO played it on his BBC RADIO 1 show for PJ PROBY and me after I told him that Jim (PJ) and I were engaged.. many years ago. :)
At 1:24, Pj makes a noise of inaudible distinction. It's as if he tries to say 'and I don't know more than this' then gives up halfway through as he realises his next line is approaching. Top quality improvisation from a musical genius.
I'm a fan, friend & collector of P.J.Proby.Not a "hoarder". I have a fantastic collection, whether it's the biggest I do not know.I am friends with other top P.J. collectors. P.J. is fine regarding money.....he does not rely on fans to subsidise him. He's got enough work coming his way. He's a WORKING LEGEND! You seem to know everything, you tell me how many P.J. shows I've attended in the last 5 years.LOL! Tell me how many P.J. magazine articles I've had published also.
THANK YOU FANS! James Marcus Smith of Huntsville Texas USA is PJ real name! Im proud of my brother ! He and I would get drunk in Studio City by Sharons house BOY she would get mad at us! He told me all about the Eddie Cochran Days! WOW!
Thanks for the comment Peter - glad you enjoyed the video and it brings back some nostalgic memories!! Please subscribe if you haven't already and keep watching more great videos that we're sure you will love.
Never heard of him. Elvis is my favorite. I don't count this person out as seems passionate at least. Rather than discount him I plan today to give more of a listen to his material. To each their own and enjoy music.
Worth noting that PJ Proby, when still in the States, would record demos for Elvis Presley. What happens there is that publishers or producers would record the tune to see what it would sound like were Elvis singing it. If it was good, it could be presented. Proby is actually from Texas; found fame in London; Jimmy Page (and possibly John Paul Jones) played on his early hits; and Led Zeppelin's first album was actually them back Proby on one of his.
At The Palomino Club IN North Hollywood PJ held my hand! I was shocked! I met Twiggy, she was fantastic! What a wild event! PJ is a SUPER STAR! Eon & Aunt Dottie & Sharon Sheely! WE LOVE PJ!
Nobody sings like PJ.You know it s him from the first note and i for one cant get enough of it.May he go on forever and bless us with that superb unique voice.
I don't want to get into any big arguments on here but I reckon some of the comments are a bit harsh. PJ was a massive star with a beautiful voice and that has absolutely nothing at all to do with the 'did he didn't he' benefits case
I don't know what you consider a "massive star" but a career total of 12 weeks in the UK Top 10 and no number 1 hits doesn't qualify. He didn't even make the top 50 after 1968. Using words like massive and legend to describe PJ Proby is even funnier than his hair.
steve FromEngland Not that it's any of YOUR business but I look at videos on youtube because it's free. You said you don't want to get into any arguments and then post YOUR opinions. Why read the comments if you don't want to know what other people think? For someone who doesn't want to argue you're doing a lot of it.
@@mltiusrenvrn but not bigger than his voice, remember great singers dont always have huge number ones...look it up..i am right..legend, no..great no, rememberable definitely
PJ is still going strong and doing work with my dad who is an artist in the US! He’s cut several of my dads songs! Check them out! Lin Butler and PJ Proby!
I heard somewhere his original stage name(early 60s in Texas) was "Jet Powers"...is this correct??? BTW, I still am awed by his "Somewhere" and "Focus con Proby" LPS...

Saw Jim on his uk tour in 1965 great voice an stage presence unfortunately his tour was cancelled due to his habit of bustinghis trousers fly during his performance
PJ Proby, like the rest of us and I guess you, think, thought, he would never get old. He has and maybe you will. You comments have all the arrogance of a youth who thinks getting old is something that happens to other people. Actually the lucky ones get old. The unlucky ones die. To quote Rod Stewart "Youth is a mask, live now and live it fast" You mock the people on the oldies circuit, but they have achieved much more than you and I. Be more gracious for what will you do when you are old? Nothing? Or try to continue being you, the best you, you can be at 75. Reply ·
In the early sixties, songs from the 'West Side Story' were recorded by many artists. (a few years later, Burt Bacharach would have that effect too) But this version, coming after Proby's raucous 'Hold Me' and 'Together' rockers, was a total career change. I couldn't believe my ears! PJ, a born Texan, adopted for this 'Somewhere' recording an exaggerated British accent, and his voice went SO deep. I immediately bought his album (his second, the first one I found no earlier than the late sixties) and marveled over the fantastically arranged, big ballad song collection. Tom Jones had a hit with "With These Hands"; PJ's was much, much better! Hell, he had a better voice than Elvis! I also bought his single after "Maria", 'I apologize'. Story goes that he made it after the Trouser Split scandal... another operaic from bass to almost falsetto miracle performance! Imagine that he never had a singing coach... 60 years later, I discovered other male vocal favorites, but PJ Proby is still at the top of my list.

Pj I adore you xxx
P.J. Proby had only one charting single in Ireland, "Hold Me," which peaked at Number 10 in the charts there in 1964.
vestiphobe, P.J. Proby's version of "Together" peaked at Number 8 in the UK.
I agree with you there, vestiphobe. Connie Francis' 1961 version peaked at Number 6 in both the UK and the US.
wondermooi uit onze tijd!
I can remember that he had spit his trousers while singing at a concert good song
Maureen Staniforth I remember that
Nothing wrong with his hair it was fashion amazing voicex

I heard somewhere his original stage name(early 60s in Texas) was "Jet Powers"...is this correct??? BTW, I still am awed by his "Somewhere" and "Focus con Proby" LPS...
Yes he did go under the name Jett Powers for a while but before that he also went under the name Orville Woods
Someday
Somewhere
We'll find a new way of living
We'll find a way of forgiving
Somewhere
There's a place for us
Somewhere a place for us
Peace and quiet and open air
Wait for us somewhere
There's a time for us
Someday there'll be a time for us
Time together with time to spare
Time to learn
Time to care
Someday
Somewhere
We'll find a new way of living
We'll find there's a way of forgiving
Somewhere
Somewhere
Somewhere
There's a place for us
A time and a place for us
Hold my hand and we're half way there
Hold my hand and I'll take you there
Somehow
Someday
Somewhere
He's got his best Elvis-voice going for him. The late 60s and the 70s were so commical with all the 'straights' trying to put on the hippie look.
Superb voice. Should be spoken about in the same breath as Elvis. Posterity will view him very generously.
Saw Jim on his uk tour in 1965 great voice an stage presence unfortunately his tour was cancelled due to his habit of bustinghis trousers fly during his performance

PJ PROBY came to the Mecca in 1973 and he was a diva , tiny man with really big wants , he carried a gun
and I did not hang around..
??????????????????????
Good
you wont hear a better version
