DOFFERS!!!!!!!!!!!!! I thought that was just me. What fun. We did it over the brook at the bottom of our street in Weston Coyney, eventually making it's way the "seasonal" lake in the farmers field just this side of Billy Nun's, otherwise known as the river Blythe. Make a successful jump and I'd puff out my chest... get it wrong and I'd get a real telling off from Mum, while "tanning my may hide", when I returned home covered in foul smelling sticky black sludge. Great days indeed and thanks for the memories. 👍
Memories hey. Doffers, buckers and robbers knock. Many a good long summer's day in my early teens spent doing all that naughtiness, us late 60's, early 70's kids back then.
The "rocky outcrop" is a huge lump of iron slag left over from the days of two blast furnaces in the area. It is referred to as the "Black Rock" or "Skull Rock" by many.
@StaffsTransport Thanks for that info. So that's what was there originally, blast furnaces. That explains the smelted look effect with the rocks. It must have been some time back though as I cannot remember them in that vaccinity back in the late 60's, early 70's when we used to play around that neck of the woods.
