Dame Vera Lynn was given a choice on which British front to be sent to to do singing for the troops on the front lines. Instead of going for some of the more famous fronts like Africa areas in the Middle East, she chose to go to the Burmese front, which had been in a 3-4 year stalemate eith the Japanese. It was jungle warfare in an incredibly humid and hot environment. It was also a place that wasn't talked much about or assisted much by allied command as it was viewed as an unmovable deadlock. But she went there because she wanted to show the soldiers fighting there that hadn't been dumped in the jungle and forgotten. She cared for them which is why she is one of the most beloved British singers of that era.
I think it's because we are witnessing real people who fought and died for us to be able to live the lives we do today. The song is poignant because we don't know how many soldiers weren't able to return home and "meet again" with their loved ones. Plus, it makes you realize how lucky you are to have been born in a country with such great opertunities and at a peaceful time. ie: Not having to worry about a bomb dropping on you or where your next meal will come from. In other words,, it humbles you. Stirs up a lot of emotion in such a short time doesn't it.
This song is sad bc soldiers had family’s and they never knew that there husbands died in the war, they even borrowed dogs from the soldiers and they didn’t care to find there family’s so they shot them.
I don't know how or why, but whenever I listen to 1920's, 30's, 40's, 50's, or 60's music, it kinda gives me nostalgia (even though I wasn't even born during those times) and (idk how) it weirdly makes me feel like... I'm at home (or something idk 😂) but yeah.
I agree with you totally 👍🏼 one of my good friends tells me I have an old soul 😊❤ but there is just something about that tipe of music that I feel like I’m living in to time back ♥️♥️♥️

Thank you. Thank you for having put your time into posting this video, even if it may only be a short that many may skip. Vera Lynn and her music, “We’ll meet again” especially, holds a special place in my heart that has helped me push through or just be there when needed. But, as much as her music matters to me, so did it to her country and their men who fought in that brutal and horrific war. Her music was, and still is, some of the greatest and I hope her name never gets forgotten.
My GreatGrandfather fought in this mess, thank god he came home alive in the war. I still preserve his Eisenkreuz at my house. Rest In Peace our Heroes🇩🇪🕊
It was a beautiful time for music in the United States, France and Mexico. Despite the great problems that these countries had, hope remained in their beautiful music.
I am a Soviet. Never have been associated with British culture apart from Checkpoint Charlie until now. I was stone faced whilst they were smiling and laughing in East Germany. I never understood it. This song makes me understand it. The British aren’t like us at all. They’re miles better, regardless of how strong we are in comparison. Their tunes are revolved around families, but what are ours: Spare for glory and the motherland. I loved my childhood, but to have been a soldier for the Queen herself would’ve been a service like no other. The Russians treated me like trash: Trying to have me thrown into a damn care home when I don’t even have an illness and am capable of looking after myself. I feel at home here. If I wasn’t past the age of service and had been born here, I’d serve and die for this nation. God save the king 🇬🇧
My dad loved this song. He was stationed in England before d-day and went ashore at Utah beach d-day+6 as he was in an artillery unit. He survived many battles including the Battle of the Bulge.
I think for me seeing the parade crowd watching in excitement just hits hard. All these people had individual lives, the soldiers. All of them experiences, and now just records in history. So interesting and kinda sad.
I can never sing this song without my voice breaking, it’s too sad for me to not cry.. may everyone that lost their lives as a result of World War 2 rest in peace..
We never learn from war thats what they say, but its not us its the politicians who blame everything on us, so remember them remember the sacrifice they had to do just for freedom NOT the politicians
War is one hell of a thing it’s a two sided coin on one side you get your fellow soldiers that become like brothers on the other hand you have the suffering suck a beautiful yet horrifying thing.
