I loved your video but loved your little boat even more. I have sailed 14 foot to 36 foot boats and have built 2 of my own. Your boat was cleverly thought out. What a gem. Excellent choice and your devotion to her renewal is praise worthy . You must be proud. Paul in Canada
What a beautiful job you have done of bringing Little Wing forward into the next phase of her life! Bravo! She's a stunner! The color scheme is so sweet! It was interesting to see a snapshot of trial colors going on her during the restoration. Thanks so much for bringing us along with you on this journey. You are an inspiration as I look ahead to the responsibilities I have for the boats in my care! All the best!
Thanks for making this video! I'm in the process of building a Penguin and this gives some great shots of the rig and interior. Great inspiration and motivation for me!
Beautiful boat -- love her lines and the layout below. I enjoyed sailing along with you while the snow falls and wind blows. Thankyou for a wonderful video --- AND thaks for the "review"! I'll be looking those up shortly.
Thanks for making such a good video about the Penguin design Matt, the sailing grounds and details of the boat and restoration. Reminds me of Bay of Islands NZ vibes. Good humor with the narration, thanks for pointing out the landmarks, looks brilliant.
Thank you so much for posting i loved every thing about the video..... such a pretty looking boat both on and off the water...... It seems very steady in the water. A rather sound sailing craft i would say....... not to mention the amenities.....
Loving all your videos and feeling that i'm getting to know Tasmania. We have a few Welsford designs here on the south coast of England, mainly Navigators, Little wing looks great. Thank you.
Nice boat. What you called Hartz peak is actually Adamson's peak! Thanks for the video. Makes one want to get in the shed and build another boat. I miss sailing in the channel!
I always hated drawing a dinghy. Almost fell totally overboard trying to adjust a dinghy painter … I held that painter very hard and recovered from an inadvertent jibe on a schooner going downwind CHEERS. The electric motor is a dream. I always hated outboard engines. OMG a printed chart. Do you know how few people have printed charts anymore? 21:09… now it’s getting interesting. She looks good going to weather. I assume that the shore has deep water around it. Is this in Tasmania? 1/2 Knot lost with 2 reefs … getting more interesting. Impressive. You folks are grand. CHEERS … I’ll pour.
As much as I like smart little boats. most of them are just as good as they can be for the cheaper price range of a small boat. Little Wing is a grown up little boat. I would be able to sail a sturdy rig like that around the world …. 50 years ago. Alas, until I find competent, imaginative boat builders near me, I will have to be content with dreams while looking at three cruiseships docking in the St. Thomas VI harbor. I still have time. PM a good solution, please! 4-5 knots is grand. Cool.
what a beautiful boat, now i know why i like the old ships. dont know about the gaf rig, will have to research about them. A timber boat in Far North queensland not such a good idea though
I can see that as a possible, Trans Tasman contender. Yeah if Robert Manry can do Atlantic in 13ft 6in Tinkerbell, this yacht should be ok on the Tasman. Maybe.? Thank you for sharing. Atb from across the ditch.
Two more thoughts. Beating to windward makes the sailor and outboard chain plates rule. Losing a couple of degrees to windward is no great loss. Paul in Canada
Great restoration job. I had a row around little wing the othe day and she looks great. Just wandering if you know the design of the little double ender just a couple of mooring further into the bay. Similar size to little wing. Thanks
Interesting. What is the draft. I didn't see previous posts. I live next to a marina and a river in Port Alfred. Once saw a design many years ago which had minimum draft but a retractable keel and 2 small side keels. Was a hard chine built with plywood
Thanks for your comment. The simplest speed app available for iPhone is Boatspeed. If you want something a bit more exciting to use (that will also pair with your Apple Watch) then use Waterspeed - you can see how it's used on the Episode I sailed the SCAMP around Bruny Island. Stay Salty!
So just to get an idea, what would be the cost of hiring someone who knows what they're doing to build this beauty for you assuming you'd be on hand to help? The outboard motor well and it being electric makes it so incredibly appealing. I assume that motor would take forever to charge using solar panels and it only makes sense plugged in while moored at a dock with electricity. Can you carry spare charged batteries for the motor?
Hi there. Cost to build is not something we can answer because there's many variables. Electric is the way to go. Yes, we use solar charging - takes about 12hrs to replenish but we also keep a spare battery onboard. FYI - this boat will be for sale soon if you're located in Australia. Thanks for watching.
@@SmallCraftTasmania-ms4sx Thanks for the reply, I'd be interested for sure if I lived in Australia but I'm in Spain. I'll be looking at boats on the second-hand market but if you know of people able to build this or similar boats around here thanks for letting me know. Cheers, very inspirational stuff. EDIT: I'm in Barcelona.
Thanks. This was our 4th video. I would edit it differently now. Saying that; we were lucky to have Alan’s permission to use his wonderfully beautiful music.
Best sailing channel on UA-cam 😊👍
There is no cozier place on Earth than the well thought out cabin of a small sailboat. Little Wing is SO beautiful.
We agree

I feel you so much mate with the children "window of opportunity" . Cheers !
Good long trip to get a feel for the boat. I reckon you will have more plans on the horizon.
Thanks for taking us along. Sweet boat.
The paint is very well done. Nice work!
Great little boat sailing in the land that the sailing gods built.
Indeed
Lovely boat with very pleasing lines 😊
Lovely wee boat. Not only is Ben one hell of a sailor, he's a fine arm wrestler too.
Love the nutshell pram tender. I have the same one! Almost 30 years old.

That journey is dope. The Penguin is so capable, yet handy.
You hooked me. Nice video. Great walk through down below.
pretty boat. that kind of sailing is my absolute favorite. too old and poor, now, but that takes me back.
Thanks for watching
To me, Welsford is nearly immortal.
Fantastic paint job. well done
Great video. Lovely boat.
Really nice video, and wonderful capable small boat. Looks like the sailing trial went spectacularly well.

Thanks. Which mooring was she on? Bruny, Kettering or Cygnet?
Nice!
Thanks!
Do you have a record of what specific beige paint and color you used? It’s perfect. Thank you!
Thanks mate. Australian standard colours: Merino, Nut Brown and Pewter.
I performed at Cygnet festival, back in 2000 ish.
Great event
I think the layout of little wing is the best I have seen in a compact sailboat . Are there plans for this gem?

Oh WoW. What a nice sail boat. I would love one of those. It would be great to raid NSW in one of these. Love Tassie.
Will the torqueedo charge the battery when you’re getting good sail power?
Not this model.
Such a pretty thing! The boat I mean...sorry.
