    Wednesday fan, here. Very good, honest assessment of the game, and of Wednesday. Well done mate, one of the best vlogs i've seen.
    Oxford have done really well to get here and it's not an easy league. It can take some time to find your feet, but there were definitely signs of you being able to escape relegation.
    Our away form IS quite good, but our home form is awful, so you always hace a chance at Hillsborough.
    Think you copped a bit unlucky today, Smith had one of his best games for us today.
    All the best for the rest of the season!

    Can't believe you sacked Buckingham. Seems harsh. I mean you are above the red line and surely that's the aim.
    On our embargo - it was lifted a while back. Chancer just chancing his arm and getting the interest on the money right up to the last possible minute.

      @@R2Zmedia don't agree , easy target but but pretty gormless. Suggest a realistic scenario for Chansiri to sell HIS club. A club that will actually owe him and his family a lot of money. He took no loans offered during COVID don't forget, he has backed all his managers even the useless( Jos, Pulis, Monk ) ones. Carlos received the most support but walked away, something he has constantly done since. Bruce was a tosser. However he himself is an oddball, trying to cheat FFP got us relegated, he then found Moore who did an excellent job but tried to sack him during that amazing run of results for what seemed like personal reasons, then even after getting promoted disgracefully wouldn't offer a pay rise causing Moore to rightly walk away....what happened after was Munoz, a joke of a manager. So yes his record is mixed but many millions will be needed for him even to consider going. A few pathetic protests won't do it. New owners of clubs are very rarely the answer to anything.

    @michaelbiggs7861 Місяць тому +3

    Very fair review, I really enjoyed watching it. I'd be interested to know what area of Sheffield you are living in and how you ended up in Sheffield. I was born in Pitsmoor near the city centre, I spent 60 years in Sheffield our last address was Wadsley Park Village, a 15 minute walk from Leppings Lane. We moved to Doncaster 6 years ago because of the anti car policy in Sheffield, I wish we had moved years ago. I've been a season ticket holder since 1985 but I only get to half of the home games, I'm not allowed to go on my own because of health issues, so I go with my son, but we can only go when he isn't working, I think we've only been to 4 or 5 home games this season. I thought Oxford were far too open in the game, as were Wednesday for a large part, it made for a decent end to end game though. Both teams have massive problems at the back, I know there was an hint of offside for your goal, for what it's worth I thought the player was just on, but it was criminal the amount of space he had. As for the embargo, it was lifted a month ago when Chansiri settled the tax bill. I'm not expecting much in the window though, because I think Chansiri is skint. It wouldn't surprise me if Rohl threw the towel in. Godd luck for the rest of the season, Up the Owls, F*** the pigs.

      Thanks Michael, appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment. That was my mistake about the embargo. Good to hear it has been lifted. Yeah we have real problems in both boxes. Just a lack of quality that is being exploited at this level. Was sad that our manager got sacked on Sunday though. Seems harsh. I thought Wednesday were good in the 2nd half and could have scored more. 3rd goal was a beauty. I moved to Sheffield because it's too bloody expensive to live in Oxford so me and my wife decided to move about 5 years ago. The city very quickly felt like home and I'm very happy here. Currently live near Heeley. Good luck for the season.

    Great analysis, full of spot-on points. It's no surprise that we are in what you rightly call a 'tail spin', we are carrying too many players who are simply not Championship quality across a 90 minute game: Kioso (poor decision making and heavy touch); El Mizouni (L1 or 2 at best); Dale (specialises in looking lively but zero end product); Rodrigues (slow in thought and movement...needs too much time that isn't available at this level); Harris (so easy to play against for a half decent centre back); McEachran (Championship level days over); Phillips (ditto); Piacheta (another who "looks lively" but produces absolutely nothing at all); ter Avest (out of his depth). So January needs to be about shipping out as well as bringing in.
    I get a bit fed up with the mantra that says it's so tough in this league. Own half possession football isn't working, let's show a bit more bravery and front foot mentality. The Plymouth and Cardiff home games are huge!

    • @OUFCFanView
      @OUFCFanView  Місяць тому +1

      Cheers Ted. A lot of those players are under contract so it will be tough to get rid of them all. Maybe I am sentimental, but I don't want most of them to go either. I would rather stick with what we got (try to add some loan quality in the window) and then see where the chips fall. If we do go down, then we have a decent squad that is ready to challenge for promotion on League 1.
      For now I think Buckingham needs to abandon the 4-1-4-1 tactic and go back to wing backs or 4-2-3-1. We need to be more solid. At the moment teams are walking through our midfield to easily. Plymouth & Cardiff are massive games. Imagine if we did win them both though. we would start thinking about staying up again.

I'm fairly sure we're out of the embargo, tax bill was paid, but as always with swfc and transfer windows, we've no idea what to expect. The hope is Chansiri backs Rohl with a couple of players, realistically that usually means we'd have to lose a couple first to afford wage bill, maybe DC will fancy another gamble and throw in a couple of million on play offs, if it means risking our financial future I'd rather we didn't gamble. Today was better though, and at least we carried a goal threat. Hope the players can take the positives. Think maybe we need to tweak the system though.

  • @PaulScowen
    @PaulScowen Місяць тому +3

    Ok, so we were much improved from the QPR loss but we shouldn’t let that fool us into thinking this performance was any better than it really was.
    Having said that once we got ahead, (how much space did Leigh find himself in) it felt like the game was there to be won. A few weeks ago we hadn’t conceded from a set piece, now we look vulnerable every time. Perhaps we have missed Nelson and Bennett a bit more than we’ve realised.
    I know you’ve been positive about Dale recently and I totally agree his tenacity (exactly the right word) is what’s been missing from our side but I think he’s only been standing out because our performances have been so poor and our general play so negative. He’s not doing anything remarkable and they’ll certainly not be any other Championship clubs coveting him, which says a lot. Tenacity should be a given.
    I’m also at odds with you on Vaulks and think that Brannagan offers us much more in that role. Brannagans 1st thought is forward, he benefits from the time CDM affords and he’s got far fewer mistakes in him. Along with Dale and Goodrham he’s also one of the few that you can rely on to have that tenacity and a genuine drive to win.
    I rate Buckingham but there’s a risk that he relies solely on pacey wingers to create chances thus enabling the back 4 to focus fully on defence.
    Without those wingers he is struggling to find a system that has any teeth or that’s solid at the back, which is the sort of dangerous combination that can lead to a run of form of just 1 win in 15!
    Once we get our wingers back and match fit there’s no guarantee that they won’t break down again so he really needs to find another system that’s capable of generating some points quickly as we are already in a mini league of 5 and cut adrift.
    There’s been a lot of talk about Harris or Scarlett and why Goodwin isn’t playing but the truth is they’ve all been isolated and feeding on scraps. You need to be very pacey or very strong to consistently score in those circumstances and strikers like that aren’t to be found in the bottom half of the Championship so we’ve got to find a system that improves our creation and XG. I just don’t think endlessly passing the ball sideways and backwards to keep possession only to lose it before we’ve managed a shot is going to secure us enough points.
    Re your comment on the subs I can tell you that Harris. Phillips and Vaulks were all stripped and ready to come on maybe 10 minutes before they actually got on the pitch. I can only make suppositions as to why it took so long.
    The 1st 3 goals of the match could all be put down to poor defensive errors but the 4th was special and definitely worthy of winning the match.
    We’re behind the point per game curve 😬

    • @OUFCFanView
      @OUFCFanView  Місяць тому +2

      Well Paul, a lot of this has changed since Writting this. I have a feeling you commented in my Buckingham sacked video so I will respond about that there. Regarding this game. We look well short of a Championship outfit at the moment. We look weak at the back, the midfield is losing the battle and getting walked through and we look pretty toothless. I wasn't a great performance especially 2nd half. 1st half I thought we were OK. I agree that Dale did nothing special, but the fact that he was actually running forward with the ball was refreshing. I was actually thinking we should go to a 4-2-3-1 and have Branners and Vaulks holding. We are just to open and thought this might make us more solid. Everything has changed now though. Everything is a worry at the moment, but I do have to remind myself that we are not in the bottom 3 yet and there is over half a season and a transfer window to change the form around. These last few performances have been very tough to watch though. I try to stay positive.

      I would not say it was true of all players, but with more and more money coming into the game it is definitely and issue. It's a tough one for me to answer though from an Oxford point of view, because we actually have quite a likeable bunch, who are just out of their depth at this level. We also have a manager who is a genuine Oxford United fan who cares about the club. However when I think back to times where we sunk down the leagues and ended up in the Conference. Well I can tell you we certainly had some mercenaries who did not give a crap. What can be done about it? Some players are always just going to treat it as a job.
