We LOVE all things Layers of learning (including their other subjects. There’s a YT channel called Today’s Joys that gives you tons of videos of all the subjects, including WW).
We only do this twice a week and it works. We just don’t get through all the genres every year. We just do the other ones the next year. My son is a rising third grader for reference and I have a preschooler who will obviously join in later.
We use the word works for spelling not just to talk about words we didn’t know. The word works is super fun because it’s activities for spelling instead of just worksheets. Of course they do have printables too. We use that 4 days a week as a running spelling list. So once he masters a word on the list then I take that word off and add another one. This way we don’t waste time with words he knows and we don’t have to have spelling tests. But I know he knows it. He enjoys this so much more than typical spelling.

Layers of learning also has an awesome podcast on how to use this. They have tons of podcasts about homeschooling stuff in general and their other topics as well

Thanks Sarah! I didn’t know they had a podcast. That’s so helpful in giving direction not only with the writing but homeschool in general.

This looks very interesting. I haven't even considered writing as a family subject.

Are you going to use this curriculum again for the 24-25 school year?

We will not be using it again this year. I recently talked about it in my 5th grade year end review. Here’s the link. 😀

Can this serve as LA? Or a supplement to it? Seems fro what you said it hits a lot of the same parts. Thank you

It definitely covers many LA concepts. I would add just a little more structure to those parts if you’re wanting to make it a full curriculum for ELA. This can easily be done with some additional practice from books they are reading. ❤️
