From being an example on how not to run a football club, I don’t think it’s unreasonable to say that Portsmouth has become a great example of a well run sustainable football club.
Absolutely and although a decade and more outside the top two tiers must have been a bitter pill to swallow, the prospect of what might be to come will taste all the sweeter for the struggle. Thanks so much for commenting.
Excellent analysis of the club & manager. Richard Hughes is indeed a huge part of the current success. The Eisners are known for sticking by their manager, which is frustrating when they are not successful, but JM can rest assured he will get the time to get it right, ironing out the rocks in the road as he goes. Having been at FP since the mid 60's, I feel a real change is finally happening at the club. Well done with your research and your appreciation of the fans.
That’s such a lovely comment, John. It seems like a truly fantastic time to be a Portsmouth fan, hopefully I’ll get to do another video at the end of the season toasting your promotion.
Great to hear an external opinion on the club. I owe Moushinio an apology for being highly concerned when he was appointed, and I'm certainly not the only one. A mate of mine pointed out that Rich Hughes laid his reputation on the line with the appointment, and fair play to him, so far it's paying off. We're going to hit a bump at some point this season, and it will be interesting how we deal with it. Many of us thought the Cowleys were taking us up after we make Peterborough look silly in September 2022, and we've been top of the league many a time before Xmas in recent years, so we're a bit more wary this season, but it does feel different this year. Lets see how we're getting on in February, and how we respond when the going gets tough. So far, JM's doing a great job, long may it continue
Great analysis. Us fans demand hard work, commitment and passion from our players. This bunch have this in spades and all look to be proud to play for Pompey. Ei ei ei oh, up the football league we go. PuP!
The most erudite review on any team by either a fan or neutral that I have seen in a long time. Your knowledge is exceptional. Awesome job my man and many thanks from a Pompey fan in Japan!!!
Pompey fan here, found you through a Pompey analysis page on Twitter. Great analysis! Love that you took the time to speak to our fans, it really shines through. I think Colby Bishop needs a special mention here, he’s banging in goals and becoming an all-round forward too good for this league. He’s also played a lot of minutes recently with Yengi injured, and he brings it every game. With him up top and our back line as strong as it is, I can’t help but think this is finally our year 🤞
Thanks so much. I do my best to make sure my content is as deeply researched as possible. Hopefully you’ll enjoy the rest of the content moving forward too.
That's a pretty comprehensive review of my football club and of course I'm pleased you've been left with such a positive impression of JM and what's going on down on the south coast. We are very happy with him and the way the club are progressing. Certainly, the 'squinnying' has greatly reduced on social media, and now more reflects the positive support from those of us who go to Fratton Park. It's been a long time coming...........Play up Pompey!!
Really good video. I did a little snort at Kenny Jackett being described as an ice queen. I think JM is doing an amazing job - it's nice to have some feelgood around the club again.
Excellent Pompey analysis. The Manager along with Rich Hughes backed by the Owners have produced a stronger squad with a better mentality needed to play for a big club. The famous Fratton Park atmosphere is starting to return after a number of frustrating seasons that had seen sections of the fanbase become negative farvquicker than was usual amongst the passionate Pompey fanbase. Hopefully onwards and upwards. Play Up Pompey !
@HLTCO 12 games unbeaten start to the season, 23 games unbeaten run in the league, @John Mousinho becoming a great coach/manager and will definitely win things with the mighty squad that we now have at #POMPEY , We now can start believing in John 💪 and the team, onwards and upwards and #PlayUpPompeyPompeyPlayUp💙 Great video mate 👍
Already in this early part of the season squad depth has proven to be a major asset. Games played bookings and injuries has allowed Portsmouth to continue when key players have had to drop out through suspensions etc . The set up this year has changed massively with quality players in all positions and we are reaping the benefits with goals are coming from all over the pitch . PUP .
Rich Hughes was questioned a lot about JMs appointment and I had my doubts, but seem to have been proven wrong. The team behind the scenes deserve as much credit as the team on the pitch. For a long time the club seem to be pulling in the right direction and long may it continue. PUP.
The highs of 2007-2009 were heady, but having lived through what came after, I get upset when fans complain about Eisner not splashing the cash. We established a sustainable platform we can build from as a club and a business, and now we're starting to push on. The atmosphere around the club is amazing right now, there's so much hope and belief. The only doubt I have remaining is how our confidence weathers the eventual first league loss. But we handled the cup loss fine so I'm not worried.
Good research and clear presentation. Well done! The Eisners deserve credit for their long term approach and investment in the club, mainly in infrastructure. They have finally got a grip on the fôotball side with the appointment of Hughes and Mousinho.
I really enjoy these videos. While I may know the stories on the surface, you explain things in more detail but in an easy to digest way. Keep up the good work!
As a Portsmouth fan, the thing I think which has typified this turnaround under Mousinho is how well Sean Raggett has gotten playing with the ball at his feet. Over the last few season he seemed to be a player that could really only tackle and head the ball but this season he's passing well, dribbling, making runs and scoring from 30 yards. Before this, he played like an old school no-nonsense centre back but now he could be comfortable in a Championship ball playing squad, and he's not even a first choice centre back this season.
It’s always a mark of good coaching alongside genuine belief in the tactics being used when players dramatically improve from what you’re used to watching. Thanks so much for taking the time to comment, it’s hugely appreciated.
Had really hoped that Danny and Nicky Cowley would be the ones to turn us around, they just got the club, got the fans, understood that the way Portsmouth players represent the club and the citt is just as important as results. But can't deny that the squad they built just didn't quite click. Mousinho just seems to have just tipped us over the edge in terms of the squad cohesion and belief amongst the players
Saw him play a couple of times as captain for Burton Albion in their Championship survival season, which was a considerable achievement for them. Could see Mousinho had something about him as captain, something probably reflected in Burton’s special success.
Great video, been some decent recruitment in the summer for not a lot of money, kusini yengi been out injured for 2 months after scoring 5 in 5 i think, soon to return, robertson on loan from city, regan poole different gravy, best CB in league 1 imo, we will have to get promoted to have any chance of keeping him
Portsmouth fan. Great video. Good to see Mous and the club get the recognition it deserves. But if the wheels come off and we don’t come up I’m blaming you for jynxing us 😂
The difference Hughs has made is brilliant. I’ve never seen so many perm signings, our squad depth is brilliant now a back up in most positions. Will Norris is brilliant, ignoring the shot stopping side of things his passing and composure is way above league 1. Poole leadership has been superb earning himself a 90min game time for Wales the other day. You have to remember Cowley took us 10 games undefeated at the beginning also with again a play out from the back style, I personally believed he was the right man wrong time, no squad backing and his only choice he had was a Tyler Walker loan on 10k and was absolutely appalling. Mousinho who could of been a player manager for us if he wanted has proven himself to me, quiet on the sideline but a new team walks out after every half time team talk. Let’s hope we don’t do our usual half season drop off and bottle play offs 👀 league 1 looks far to easy to not go up this year
We've been top at this stage twice before in league one, both times February onwards we bottle it. The first time it happened, the loans all got recalled in January, the second time (last year), we just crumbled. I don't doubt that John Mousinho is a going to be a good manager, but getting rid of the bottle nature that is our club will be a multi year project and culture shift. You can still feel it in Fratton late on in games, although the tactics may represent calm, everybody is pooing themselves still, because we've seen this script before. What John has done is similar to Southgate, he's brought a load of misfits that, on their day, could win something, but it was never going to be consistent success, into a group who look like friends, who come across well on camera, and seem to want to put on the shirt and commit to this city. But do I see England winning something with Southgate? Absolutely not. Eventually, the lack of experience and tactical awareness will show itself more and more as teams figure us out. Brilliant video by the way, I reckon you're the next Joe Devine ;)

Squad building is an extremely difficult alchemy but when it clicks, it’s special to watch. I’m so glad you enjoyed it.

It’s great to see this level of insight from an outside perspective. Great work! Up the blues. 💙
Thanks so much. I do my best to make sure my content is as deeply researched as possible. Hopefully you’ll enjoy the rest of the content moving forward too.
I think our strength in depth is what sets us apart this season. We have quality replacements for every position.
Yeah, that’s what I’ve heard from many Pompey fans in researching for this video, all for next to nothing in the market too.

Quite rightly so. Thank you for watching and commenting.
Great analysis. PUP from Victoria, Canada

Absolutely. Hopefully I did the whole infrastructure at the club justice.

exciting times for our club
Thanks so much, Will. I’m glad you think I did it justice.

Quite agree Raggett when called on has exceeded previous seasons performances.

That seems to be a constant theme in my conversations with Pompey fans. The respect they seem to have amongst the Pompey fan-base is immense.

Brilliant analysis.
Superb overview. PUP!
It's no surprise that Pompey and Oxford are both at the top, going to be interesting for the end of the season. Hopefully, we will both go up.
Let's wait and see. Enjoying the football at this moment!
Every reason to enjoy it mate. Ride that wave.

I heard from a Pompey fan I spoke to that many were stunned he didn’t move to the Championship in the summer. A huge coup for sure.
Think the size of our fan base is underrated tbh mate, good interview but we broke Wembley records twice ? I’d say thats a pretty big fan base.
Up the blues 💙
Love that from you, Jack
It's great to see another video of yours.
Thanks so much mate, very kind.
Portsmouth fan. Great video. Good to see Mous and the club get the recognition it deserves. But if the wheels come off and we don’t come up I’m blaming you for jynxing us 😂
Haha! I’ll take the risk. Thanks so much for taking the time to watch and comment.
Wow! Great analysis. Take a breath now! Play up Pompey
Great video this. Nice to see what others outside the Pompey fan base think 👏🏻
Really appreciate that, Sam. It seems rock solid form having read into it.
Who needs mourhino….. we’ve got Mousinho 🎵 🎶

Cracking video, just out of curiosity, what team do you support?
Southampton 🤣🤣🤣

Thanks so much, Charlie. Really appreciate you taking the time to comment.
Play Up Pompey
🤝
This time last season our team would have capitulated under the first hint of pressure. Polar opposite of this season! PUP
Good videos good work 👍
Cheers, Adam. ❤️
