I built a dragon for a puppetry class in college and ended up using it for a theatrical production. It’s always so much fun to see what people can create. What a great looking dragon, it’s such an awesome piece

I used to be a puppeteer and my mother was a puppet maker. This dragon is GORGEOUS!! Kat W is an amazingly talented young woman!! Such beautiful work!
Looks kind of like Smaug from the Hobbit as a baby hatchling. I swear Dragons look freaking adorable when they’re babies, until they grow up and turn into the wrath of nature given flesh and bone. Seeing this just made my day. 😄
Oh, and the ring lights in "his" eyes make them even more realistic. Like I would imagine a dragon would have.
These puppets never cease to amaze me. They're a pretty common sight at RenFairs but this one is astounding.
Also reminds me of another puppet that Adam would love its simplicity. It was a gopher (I think) effectively just a sock puppet but inside it had a slinky and all the life like movement and personality the puppeteer was able to imbue with only a tickle or twitch of his fingers on the outside was magic.
You sir, next to Ben from Crimson Guitars, are such a delight to watch and listen too with all the joy you bring to everything. It's nice to see that some people have not lost their inner child and show it to the world! Thank you very much.

Yes! I'm so proud of Kat for her talent and creations! It's been amazing working with her through makeup school and creating sfx sculpts. Love her!

Although this puppet is breathtaking, you gave it more life with its movements... I almost forgot that had a history of puppeteer work.
CGI can do a lot, and can accomplish things you can't do any other way.
That said, I will always love practical effects (especially good puppetry) more. It has a particular magic that I'm not convinced can be replicated any other way.
Yeah, that ring light made the dragon's eyes look amazingly real. It gave them an iris and pupil all in one.

I think some patterned airbrushing on the throat material would bring it to the next level! The solid colored material kinda prevents your suspension of disbelief.

I see so much potential for fun. Would love to just wander around my town carrying one like this & messing with people. Second thing I'd do(after getting puppetry/persona dialed in), is hit some magic supply for a few smoke/flame gimmicks and incorporate those.
Number one idea: give it face masks- made of flash paper! It's a dragon. It don't need no stinking mask!!

At this point im not sure why a pet dragon puppet surprised me. Its cool and adam has so many cool things. Its almost like “hey adam do you have a X” and the answer is almost always “yes” that or “be right back (one day build later) yeah ive got that now too”

Adam - you (or maybe other tested members) should go visit and tour the Folkmanis workshop in Emeryville. They've been making some of the most perfect soft furry puppets around for about forty years now. I and a lot of locals grew up with Folkmanis puppets.
Beautiful work. I really love the eyes! I perhaps would have added a tongue inside the moth but really like how it sits on the hand and operates. Cool!

I would love to see how you store the puppet when not in use. A rod with foam at the top? Long enough so you don't stretch the fabric? Covered to prevent light damage? Just curious.
