3 octaves perfect pitch while playing the drums. Once an angel fell from heaven. Though she was called home far too quickly she left us all with an amazing gift. Because of her, we know what angels sound like.
I am a 70's kid, so I grew up listening to the Carpenters. I tear up to this day every time I hear her sing. I think about the young life lost and the angelic voice. RIP Karen.
I am just about 70 and listened to the carpenters pretty regularly during the '70s as well. May I suggest that you go to the channel of Tori Holub, who sounds incredibly like Karen Carpenter. We've only just begun collaboration with Jim wilkas is a good place to start. What an incredible talent. She also does other artists such as Olivia Newton-John, and has a couple of originals. She is a 20-year-old vocalist, musician, and audio engineer from Minneapolis.
Karen's voice is a classic never duplicated treasure. So many songs to listen to next, as well as videos of her drumming skills. She was a drummer first and foremost who was told to come out from behind the drums to sing. She and her brother Richard created some magical music we can always enjoy. R.I.P Karen.
Karen not only had such a beautiful voice, she considered herself a drummer first and foremost. She always said she was a drummer who could sing. If you watch her when she's playing the drums, you will see the biggest smile on her face.
Steph Gard, you are a beautiful young person who possesses incredible maturity and insight. Thank you so much for your analysis of the Carpenters' performance of the classic ballad "Rainy Days and Mondays". Karen Carpenter's magical voice is unique and unforgettable. I am thrilled that young people are discovering the timeless music of the legendary Carpenters.
When a Carpenters song came on the radio back in the day, it really stood out. Karen's voice, Richard's production techniques, and their melodic repertoire were just built different. Good to see a new generation discovering them.
She was a drummer first, and a singer second. A tremendous talent...she and her brother made a huge mark in music history. Her brother Richard is a brilliant pianist and music arranger.
Karen Carpenter is in a class of 1. In my and many people's opinions best singer ever. Carpenters tore up the Billboard charts in the 70's. Her drumming is also top of the line. She was a very special person with humbleness, kindness, giving and more. Died from a heart attack at 32 from symptoms of anorexia March 2 1950 - Feb 4 1983. A Big Carpenter Rabbit Hole with many songs and many many hits including "Top of the World and "Close to You".
@bonester My dad and I seldom saw eye to eye when it came to music. He was an old school country music fan. Eddie Arnold, Marty Robbins were 2 of his favorites. I'm a classic rock guy. Boston, Led Zeppelin, the Eagles, etc. But there _WAS_ one thing we agreed on. Karen Carpenter had _THE_ best voice. Her voice was deep, yet still feminine. Like Steph said, velvety.
The voice of the late, great Ms. Karen Carpenter is timeless. The very first music recording I purchased was the "Close To You" album by the Carpenters in 1970 (I'm that old) and "Rainy Days And Mondays" was the first "track" on the album (I don't know if people even know what that means anymore). I also saw the Carpenters in concert in 1976. We lost an amazing treasure when Ms. Karen Carpenter tragically passed away. We've had many wonderful artists since, but none like Ms. Karen Carpenter.
Nobody like Karen. I was a kid in the 70s and loved their music. She truly was an Earth angel. She was gone too soon ...we may have lost our angel but Heaven gained a Goddess. Hell I still get teary eyed thinking of her and her sound and tragic end. Miss her. Im 55 now now. No telling what else she may have given us if she'd only had the time.
Karen Carpenter is easily one of the greatest female singers of all times. Her amazing smooth voice has a calming effect, and along with her brother they both created and made incredible memorable music. Karen, rest in peace, 1983 gone way too soon. Check these great Carpenters songs that are often forgotten, Hurting Each Other, Ordinary Fool, and Bless the Beast and The Children, I promise they won't disappoint.
Karen was truly one of a kind.for me the best singer I've ever heard. And an incredibly talented drummer. If you liked this one you will also love the many great songs they had
Great reaction, the amazing thing about this is it is a live performance. According to many sound engineers, her pitch is better live than the actual recordings. Another interesting fact is she was rated as the number 5 drummer in rock/pop music near the time of this performance. Rated over even Bonham of Led Zeppelin. Check out some of her live drum solos. Sadly record company execs mostly refused to let her play the drums on TV. Sad, she died literally of a broken heart with an eating disorder. The most amazing voice. Chris
I was a kid in the '50s and I grew up with all of this music and have most of it in my personal collection. Some legendary female singers for you are Patsy Cline, Janis Joplin, Cass Elliot, and Aretha Franklin.
Steph, you could Google the story if you're interested in more detail, but as a quick summary Karen died at the age of 33 (just a kid, really). She battled an eating disorder most of her life that got worse with the success and stress of her career. That was a time when doctors really didn't understand it, so she never got the help that could have saved her life. It's one of the most tragic stories in the history of American entertainment.
Seldom do we have a genius now karen was a genius what a beautiful silky voice and karen was very good on the drums too ladies and gentlemen the beautiful extraordinary karen carpenter you are a legend the best singer ever R.i.p. karen so sadly missed
Karen just causes me to get emotional due to that gorgeous voice and the utter loss of her at such a young age. If you are out there and have an eating disorder, please, please get help. Love out all.
Karen and Richard were outstanding for what they did, adult contemporary as practised in the 60s and 70s. Not always my cup of tea but they created some outstanding and affecting songs. Karen could make a metal head cry! Richard's arrangements and his musical contributions can't be understated. They were awesome, then they were sadly gone. Wiki them, it is ultimately a sad story after a brilliant run. Do an ultimate wedding request with the video for We've Only Just Begun, another classic hit. Enjoy! 🔥🎵🎤🎹🎸🎷🎶🔥
Growing up in Texas in the 80’s , parents had The Carpenters playing throughout the house I mean ALL the time . Magical time to grow up in the eighties . Was .. innocent .
Her brother Richard did the arrangements on all their music. What better person to frame your voice than your brother. He was very talented and after losing his sister so young he worked with other artist. 🙏🏻❤️
Karen was taken from us far too early. She suffered from anorexia, of which little was known at the time by the medical profession, complicated by mental health issues. I was a massive Zep fan but I loved the Carpenters because of the sheer beauty of their music. RIP Karen. You you will be singing with a choir of angels in heaven
My sister had their albums and I think that I listened to them more than she did. I had a teenage crush on Karen and was devastated later on when she died.
Miss.... My Name Wahyudi, I'm from Indonesia.. I beg you please to React The Guardian of Nusantara by Alffy Rev... Please... so Thanks before and after it.
This music was a cry for help by a woman that was dying in front of our eyes. She was obsessed with her weight and was destroying herself. That is why there is so much negative attention to body shaming.
Karen had the voice of an angel. Those of us who were lucky enough to grow up listening to the Carpenters, loved her and miss her. RIP Karen 💚

Me too
70's kid here too - Exactly right
So am I, born in 1970! Love the Carpenters.
Me too. How great it was to grow up in the 70's. The Carpenters were one of the reasons it was great.
What was so amazing about Karen Carpenter was not only her voice but she was a dam good jazz drummer.
Karen's voice is a classic never duplicated treasure. So many songs to listen to next, as well as videos of her drumming skills. Greatest female singer in history period she died young she had pain u can here it in her voice
She has the most beautiful voice I've ever heard.
That's a very brilliant choice of piece to comment to. I always love her and having her gone so soon was a very big loss. I miss her so much.
She was the best. Her voice is still un matched.
Her talent is off the charts. She has many great songs. Love your reactions Stef
RIP Karen. Gone way too soon. Her voice is still like a warm hug to the soul.
She was a shooting star that graced the darkness with her everlasting light, shine on wonderful angel, you live in our hearts now and forever.

One of my first memories, and a very strong one, of hearing music is hearing Karen Carpenter's voice.
"Superstar" is a haunting, achingly beautiful song.
She did it in one take.
Brings back ancient memories. Beautiful reaction.
She was a drummer first, and a singer second. A tremendous talent...she and her brother made a huge mark in music history. Her brother Richard is a brilliant pianist and music arranger.
A voice of an Angel Carpenters music is timeless rip Karen Carpenter

Love your kitty ears and love the Carpenters!!
Una de las voces mas bellas de la época, tuvieron hasta un programa en TV. Saludos.
The Carpenters is a velvet rabbit hole. You should do more of their music.

Nobody has a voice like Karen Carpenter. ❤❤
It's absolutely staggering how flawless her voice was, imo Karen was the greatest female vocalist to ever walk this earth!
Karen Carpenter had the voice of an angel! We were lucky to exist at the same time she did. Still gives me chills.
I strongly recommend the Carpenters "Superstar". Her voice just reaches right into my chest and goes for the heartstrings.

She was a true contralto voice, with a two octave range!
3+ octave range

Lovely reaction, Steph. ❤️
She was incredible & such a voice & a really good drummer but anorexia took her out so young & so sad, such a tragedy. RIP Karen. 😪😪😪

3:34, SAME reaction I had when I first reacted to this song 😂 Karen just had such a great voice, may she rest in peace 🙏
You get her too!!!!!😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤❤
Beautiful reaction. Her brother Richard is on the piano next to her in the video and he did the arrangements for most (if not all) of their songs.
Her voice soothes the soul
Thank you 🙏🏻 for your reaction to this Carpenters song. 😊 I hope you will also react to their song, “Superstar” 🎉
You described it very good
The voice - like no other. Thank you for this.
You must listen to every one of the Carpenters songs each one of them is uniquely great in its own way. Karen had one of the best voices of all times.

Her voice is strong and melancholy at the same time! She totally derailed me as a 7 year old!
I hope you continue your Carpenters journey. There are some happier tunes of there’s I think you’d dig. Karen was a world class drummer as well :)
Karen just causes me to get emotional due to that gorgeous voice and the utter loss of her at such a young age. If you are out there and have an eating disorder, please, please get help. Love out all.
It still makes me sad to think that we lost her, and no one understood why. Very very very sad! 😢😢😢
