hey Steph, this was the very first time, that I fell completely in love with a song... it was 1968, and I was 12 years old. If you look at the cover of their St. Pepper album (legendary!!), they are wearing those clothes there as well!
Your analysis is spot on. Paul was the playful, funny, innocent and very dynamic one - John in contrast wrote more darker stuff, and I can't imagine, that he much liked this song. He was often critical of Paul's writing, but they were both absolutely needed to create the unmatched creativity of the Beatles - they were like black and white, and without that contrast, Beatlemania wouldn't have happened.
PS. I love that you sometimes just play the whole songs again, when they were short! Beatles forever!!! 🌈

That's why Paul was known as "The cute Beatle". These costumes were the ones they used in their Sgt. Pepper album. They were just used those two times. But it did bring bright colors into fashion at the time. Also, that is why many years later, Michael Jackson started wearing uniform outfits. He was a huge Beatles fan.

And, yes, this was Paul's song, "dedicated" to his JaneAsher, which was refusing to end her acting career just to be his wife! Paul couldn't understand why she didn't want to "settle down," and wrote many songs about what he considered her "obstinacy" to his pov!

It DID come from Paul! I heard on Sirius XM Beatles channel a few weeks ago that some friend was asking Paul how he came up with songs. "Well it's really quite simple. I take one word, then look for the opposite word, then try to tell a story out of it, or create an idea with some tension in it, and off we go! Like "Yes" or "No" Or "This or "That" And of course he started playing the piano and sang "You say Yes! I say no! You say..." ----Something like that, anyhow, lol!

We saw a "Beatles Tribute" band many years ago. They did a great job..... many women in the audience were actually crying!
They played early Beatles songs first, then took a break.
When the 2nd half of the concert started they raised the curtain and the band were wearing these outfits.
They got a standing ovation before they even hit the first note of "Hello, Good-Bye."
It was a great show and we got to re-live an important part of our youth...The Beatles meant that much to many in my generation.

The Beatles psychedelic period of 1967. Every single song of that era is a classic including this one, 'Strawberry Fields Forever', 'Penny Lane', 'I am the Walrus', 'All You Need is Love' and of course all of the songs on the Sgt. Pepper album, as well as the rest of the Magical Mystery Tour collection of songs. Classic masterpieces.

The costumes were specifically used for the picture on the album cover of Sergeant Pepper. Otherwise they were seldom used. One thing people liked about The Beatles from the beginning was there humor, joy when performing, and happy go lucky personalities. Their relationship changed in the later years, and some of them didn't even like being in the recording studio together.

There are two versions of this video, One where they wore the colorful uniforms from Sgt. Pepper, and one where they wore more contemporary clothing. Some of the footage from the second version was edited into the video for "Now and Then," the last John Lennon demo the Beatles used to create their final song last year.

when u paused it & said "they are so cute" was a call back to the matching type suits they used to wear in 1963, 1964 back when they were new to the world, this is 1967 & ironically theyre still wearing matching suits, kind of, but its a little different this time, after the campiness of psychadelic 67, there'd be no more matching anything

Steph!! I'm so glad you liked that video and song! That is one of their many sparkling, happy, exquisite Pop songs, which Paul McCartney is/was particularly adept at creating (along with John)! If you liked that one, you should also check out "All You Need is Love", "Fool On the Hill", "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band/With a Little Help From My Friends", "Got To Get You Into My Life", "All My Loving", "Can't Buy Me Love", and "Ticket to Ride", just for starters! They have SO MANY great songs, from Pop to Rock to Psychedelia to Ballads to Guitar-driven New Rock (circa 1964 - 1965), to many other styles! Welcome to the ultimate Rabbit Hole, dearest lady!

People can't tell me that the Beatles didn't invent the music video after watching this. But us older people, we always HEARD the song first, on the radio. The video or "Film" was a promotional film sent to the USA and was broadcast on Ed Sullivan Show, THE variety show where you know you finally made it in show business. The Beatles had appeared first on this show in February 1964 in the type suits you see them wearing in the middle, with no collar on the jacket jacket. By 1966 they had topped earing them and stopped touring. To them it was a joke to wear them again. Actually wearing the Sgt Pepper colorful suits was also a joke to them. it was just to promote the record.

The Press gave Paul McCartney the name Baby-Face Paul McCartney, and yes, he was the one all the girls went for. The collar-less grey suits were their stage outfits which manager Brian Epstein had them wear when he took over, to give them a more professional appearance. During the time of The Psychedelic Era, atypical colorful clothing and art were the fashion, with The Beatles being among the trendsetters. A Special and Unique Time, if you were around then and even now! :)

This is a Paul song. It started out "Hello, hello" but evolved in the studio a few times. The master did not have as much of an edge so they started all over and this was the result. When you saw them all sitting together and waving and you said how cute they looked, they were wearing the collarless jackets they wore early , back in 64. The basic idea for the design came from Pierre Cardin . This performance is a video they made to send to Ed Sullivan for his show. By this time, they no longer performed live so they figured they'd make a couple of vids and send them around. This was one of them . Your thinking Paul looks so "innocent" comes from his eyes, which are sad looking and make him look like a little boy who's being scolded ( look at some of their early images). BTW, in the beginning, before everybody knew their names, Paul was known as "The cute one" .

This was a rather tame female reaction to The Beatles comparatively speaking. In the 1960's all the teen girls in the audience screamed so loudly at every single sold out Beatles concert that the musicians themselves could not hear themselves sing or play. After 3 years of international touring around the world with near riots almost breaking out at every concert (including one in Vancouver, Canada, where The Beatles had to cut their 12 song set list to 11 and quickly leave the stage to avoid being mobbed by the frenzy crowd), they quit touring to devout themselves to studio recording only. Paul himself described the live Beatles concerts as they were as simply "Puppets being screamed at" when they really wanted to be was "musicians" who's music could actually be heard. To give a prime example, try listening to The Beatles "Live at Shea Stadium" album. But IMO my favorite "Beatles-ISH" live concert is Paul McCartney's 1976 "Wings Over America" live album and DVD where he sings 4 classic Beatles songs in addition to his solo material.

Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band 3 days after it was released. That scene was recreated in the 2013 Jimi Hendrix movie Jimi: Is All By My Side featuring Andre 3000 as Hendrix.
