With so many Gold smelting furnaces on the market , we wanted to see if we could build one for under $300 dollars that would get up over 2000 degrees and do everything that we needed it to do. So this is what we came up with and they are so easy and cheap to build. The only thing I would do different is use Ceramic Fiber insulation blanket instead of the Perlite and Refractory cement because it is easier to install and replace or use a Potatoe instead ua-cam.com/video/8DF2SYQIobg/v-deo.html.
If you have better ideas please leave them below in the comments section so we can all learn from them and smash that like button...smash it HARD

Careful pouring on concrete. Spilled molten metal can cause the residual moisture in the concrete to flash to steam and explode. Molten metal will spray in every direction. Lay down sacrificial wood sheet (yes it will burn, but slowly and it won't explode) or 1/2 inch layer of dry sand. I poured bronze once and spilled some on concrete. We were hopping around avoiding flying metal for a few seconds there. Someone else later picked up those splatter pieces and turned them into a very interesting art piece. The rapid differential cooling effect of concrete and flying through the air caused very interesting shapes and heat colors to form in the metal (like flame painting on copper - google it if you've never seen it).

Jeff, I know that you are acquainted with Jason at MBMLLC, and his ultra-cheap furnace is my go-to build as a backyard melting hobbyist. You're in need of a more durable, long-term setup, so your fabrication was far better suited to your needs for both melting AND smelting. The pivoting lid was a sweet detail, too. I also lack a good arc welder, and only have a benchtop Harbor Freight stick welder that won't do anything heavy.

It's mostly small placer gold that's pretty clean looking and some of it tested out 18 plus carat.

One thing I can’t figure out… what happens to the incoming flame pipe when you packed the cement in? From the video it seems like you just put the cement on top and packed it in right on top and around it. That can’t be right, correct?

What the….. that looked like a lot of work but a sweet furnace how come I’ve never seen you use it recently? To much gas to run it?? Or did the cement wear out after years of use? Slim looked great there thanks for sharing see you on the next one 👍🏼👊🏼

    Jeff,
No NG here, need to use LP. So what size hole for the orifice in the brass tube, being the LP runs at higher pressure? Or would you just use the valve to throttle it back?
