I freaking love this band. When I was stationed over in Germany when I was in the Army, I got to see them, they killed it. Then back in the states I saw them in Philadelphia and Ohio. Can't get enough of this fabulous 😍 ❤️ band. Love you Tommy. When my boyfriend at the time in Germany went back to the States after his time was up in the Army, I would listen to Babe over and over 😔. 😔 I cried so much, he was my first love ❤️ 😍 💖 ❣️ 💕 💘. That song still gets to me 40 years later. I was only twenty at the time but that song resonated such deep emotions in me. Keep on rocking it Styx.

Dennis hasn’t played out since the pandemic. All his shows were cancelled. Rescheduled 3 times then cancelled. No reasons given. Styx today is a Great Show. Nobody at the show seemed to have anything but a fantastic time.
It’s pretty awesome that so many people have nothing better to do with their time than to argue with strangers whether Styx is actually Styx with or without Dennis. What an easy life we all have.

Amazing how well Tommy's voice is holding up! Nice to see Chuck Panozzo up there. But this is just the Tommy Shaw Styx review. Sounds good but not Styx. I guess Dennis is laughing every time he cashes a check. I saw Styx in 1978 open for Aerosmith. Kicked Aerosmith's butt. Made me a fan.

JY missed another show in 2007-2009? Not sure which year, but his wife had suffered a stroke. During that time, he was constantly going back and forth (to be with her) between gigs.
They've been putting on awesome concerts for decades without Dennis; everyone is still playing & singing strong! The Mission was excellent and Crash of the Crown is a fantastic album of new material; check 'em out. (You can go see Dennis in concert, too, and he puts on a nice show as well. You'll get more ballads.)
@2v_5r He's not full time he appears occasionally. But the 1976 -1983 era was their most productive fruit bearing years. Recording and touring. They won't ever get that back.
@2v_5r Tommy joined in December 1975 after original member John Curelewski left at the beginning of the Equinox tour . Tommy was on their 6th album Crystal Ball so they were around for a while before Tommy joined. Perfect timing for the band too.

Babe was radio fluff, it sold, because it was pop music. When Mr. Roboto came out everyone I knew (and myself) was like WT-? We didn't know Tommy and JY were thinking the same thing. Really surprised to see them play it. He grew soft and they left him behind. We moved on. Bands often change members and Gowan is a highly accomplished replacement. This wasn't his first rodeo. Sick of you cucarachas whining about Dennis. He's gone from Styx, get over it. Go see his shows. He's touring this year. Will is great. He's been a key player on the last two albums. I noticed when they played Phoenix last September that Will was on the mic for all the parts JY used to do. If you liked closely, you could tell he was likely being prepped as an understudy. Looking forward to seeing them soon for the 15th time!
Am I crazy??….why is Tommy playing Mr. Roboto if he doesn’t like it?, I thought that was one of the biggest reasons for the break up?, INTERESTING. Certainly Styx has enough material that they do not have to put it on the set list.
@@Lance37a Chuck "retired" from Styx in 1999 so his presence at concerts is more of a "special guest" thing where he plays 2 or 3 songs. JY has never been much of a songwriter and is comfortable just playing his "JY guitar" on tracks. I did notice that he doesn't seem to be singing lead vocals anymore on this tour.

Gowan is NO Dennis De Young. Tommy Shaw still has a great voice and is guest on the new Alan Parsons CD. They sure got a replacement guitarist quick to replace (only on stage) JY.

After putting the tour and the album down Dennis still let them do the song. They've been asking Dennis if they could use it in their shows and being the good guy Dennis is he let them. All the songs that they do that are Dennis's they can only do them because of his generosity. Yet no reunion because Shaw and JY are divas.... in their heads.
I don't know if that's true. The way I understand it, Dennis didn't start his own publishing company for his songs until after his brief _Cornerstone_ firing. And I don't know if he could stop them even if he wanted to. Performing cover songs without permission of the songwriter isn't illegal as long as royalties get paid.
You don't need permission to sing someone's song. As well Dennis has been playing Tommy's songs longer, since edge of the century tour in around 1990 when Tommy left....his replacement Glen burtnick was singing renegade and blue collar man long before the current Styx sang Deyoungs song....you don't know the history that well
