Tommy looks and sounds amazing!! Love the band, period.
This band never fails to put on a spectacular show!
I freaking love this band. When I was stationed over in Germany when I was in the Army, I got to see them, they killed it. Then back in the states I saw them in Philadelphia and Ohio. Can't get enough of this fabulous 😍 ❤️ band. Love you Tommy. When my boyfriend at the time in Germany went back to the States after his time was up in the Army, I would listen to Babe over and over 😔. 😔 I cried so much, he was my first love ❤️ 😍 💖 ❣️ 💕 💘. That song still gets to me 40 years later. I was only twenty at the time but that song resonated such deep emotions in me. Keep on rocking it Styx.
Great video ! I saw them in VA Beach as well. Miss Dennis DeYoung but Laurence Gowan's amazing too ! That keyboard performance!!!

I got to see them in July in Phoenix. Just so amazing! Styx did an encore with Mr. Roboto and Renegade. They blew the house down.
As always, Styx sounds FANTASTIC! Great job recording!

Dennis hasn’t played out since the pandemic.
All his shows were cancelled.
Rescheduled 3 times then cancelled. No reasons given.
Styx today is a Great Show.

They've been putting on awesome concerts for decades without Dennis; everyone is still playing & singing strong! The Mission was excellent and Crash of the Crown is a fantastic album of new material; check 'em out. (You can go see Dennis in concert, too, and he puts on a nice show as well. You'll get more ballads.)
Well…I am looking at a very good Styx tribute band here. Actually, at this point they are a great Tommy Shaw band. He is always phenomenal live. Cheers.

Amazing how well Tommy's voice is holding up! Nice to see Chuck Panozzo up there. But this is just the Tommy Shaw Styx review. Sounds good but not Styx. I guess Dennis is laughing every time he cashes a check. I saw Styx in 1978 open for Aerosmith. Kicked Aerosmith's butt. Made me a fan.

I saw them during their Las Vegas residency. Great show.

@@kingtrance307 They will never get over it. They are kind of like cockroaches. Put up a Styx video and they show up. It has been 23 years since Gowan joined and they still can't get over it. Dennis was part of the band for 25 years. If they cut Mr. Roboto from the set no one would really miss it either.
I just wouldn't be interested in seeing them without Dennis.

@@BrandGuyTim You are the joke. I was a huge Styx fan in my teen years. I go back to "Lady" and the Wooden Nickel days. I loved Equinox, Grand Illusion, Pieces of Eight...all of it....Dennis was incredible, Insanely good live. He definitely led the band.
But Dennis got weird. Babe was radio fluff, it sold, because it was pop music. When Mr. Roboto came out everyone I knew (and myself) was like WT-? We didn't know Tommy and JY were thinking the same thing. Really surprised to see them play it.
He grew soft and they left him behind. We moved on. Bands often change members and Gowan is a highly accomplished replacement. This wasn't his first rodeo. Sick of you cucarachas whining about Dennis. He's gone from Styx, get over it. Go see his shows. He's touring this year. Tommy, JY don't seem to want to share a stage with him and they have the rights to the name. It's their prerogative, not yours.
There is no Styx without JY. Bad enough that Dennis isn't with them anymore.

Ironic they do the song written and sung by Dennis DeYoung, that lead to the breakup. With only TS from the original, this is more like a tribute band.

The 1st and only time I saw Styx J.Y. was Mia as well,they put on a great show that night
JY missed another show in 2007-2009? Not sure which year, but his wife had suffered a stroke. During that time, he was constantly going back and forth (to be with her) between gigs.

Am I crazy??….why is Tommy playing Mr. Roboto if he doesn’t like it?, I thought that was one of the biggest reasons for the break up?, INTERESTING.
Certainly Styx has enough material that they do not have to put it on the set list.

Will is great. He's been a key player on the last two albums.
I noticed when they played Phoenix last September that Will was on the mic for all the parts JY used to do. If you liked closely, you could tell he was likely being prepped as an understudy.

Dennis hasn't been in Styx for decades and it's all due to his own ego. He ended his own career with that band.

And Dennis burned that bridge back in the 90's after the reunion tour. JY, Tommy, and Chuck all saw he was being a douche about it and cut his ass loose, and they've been better for it ever since. Get over it son. :)

@2v_5r Tommy didn't join Styx until their SIXTH album!!
@2v_5r He's not full time he appears occasionally. But the 1976 -1983 era was their most productive fruit bearing years. Recording and touring. They won't ever get that back.
@2v_5r Tommy joined in December 1975 after original member John Curelewski left at the beginning of the Equinox tour . Tommy was on their 6th album Crystal Ball so they were around for a while before Tommy joined. Perfect timing for the band too.

JY missed one other show.(in the 2,000's) when his wife had a stroke. As I recall, he was flying back ans forth to be with her.
They only do this song for the fans. Dennis gets paid.
After putting the tour and the album down Dennis still let them do the song. They've been asking Dennis if they could use it in their shows and being the good guy Dennis is he let them. All the songs that they do that are Dennis's they can only do them because of his generosity. Yet no reunion because Shaw and JY are divas.... in their heads.
I don't know if that's true. The way I understand it, Dennis didn't start his own publishing company for his songs until after his brief _Cornerstone_ firing. And I don't know if he could stop them even if he wanted to. Performing cover songs without permission of the songwriter isn't illegal as long as royalties get paid.

You don't need permission to sing someone's song. As well Dennis has been playing Tommy's songs longer, since edge of the century tour in around 1990 when Tommy left....his replacement Glen burtnick was singing renegade and blue collar man long before the current Styx sang Deyoungs song....you don't know the history that well

Gowan is NO Dennis De Young. Tommy Shaw still has a great voice and is guest on the new Alan Parsons CD. They sure got a replacement guitarist quick to replace (only on stage) JY.
That was my question was does James Young even play the guitar if they have another guy up there too. Because no offense to him he was missing for the shower and you wouldn’t notice

@@roylivingston9085 Will Evankovich. He is sort of a reserve player. Stays largely in the background when JY is there. Tommy and JY play distinctive and separate parts. One or the other cannot do it alone.
@@TheBent139 Will was a co-writer on most of the songs on 'The Mission', and 'Crash of the Crown'. A pretty accomplished and talented dude.
Is JY still with them, just out for a few shows, or is he out of the band totally ?
I hope JY is doing alright - sadly, I suspect his wife is likely not doing well.
At this point JY is pretty much a passenger, no songwriting credits on the last album. Chuck Panozzo is barely playing anything at this point.
@@Lance37a Chuck "retired" from Styx in 1999 so his presence at concerts is more of a "special guest" thing where he plays 2 or 3 songs. JY has never been much of a songwriter and is comfortable just playing his "JY guitar" on tracks.
I did notice that he doesn't seem to be singing lead vocals anymore on this tour.
