@@AudioHaze omg I can’t believe you replied. 😱❤️ This video was like top tier journalism into the origins of the Bon Iver sound that changed the face of folk music for the foreseeable future. You did a perfect rendition of flume. You displayed the arrangement of the vocal and guitar over dubs in a way that described a sonic picture. You showed vulnerability in showing your raw takes. And to top it all off you interviewed the original mastering engineer. And you looked at peer reviewed papers about the sound of the record. This video was honestly the best thing I’ve ever watched on UA-cam. The album For Emma: forever ago changed my life. Now I believe your video has done it again.
I've been a Bon Iver superfan from the very beginning and I've listened to and played his music myself more than probably most other fans and your chorus sounds sooo close to the original on the "only love is all maroon", it's uncanny! Kudos dude!
The mix/unmixed comparison on this track in particular is really striking imo. It's so evident how simple the mixing can be when you get the sounds right at the source and are willing to highlight the natural artistry in raw recordings. I love how you specifically pointed out how little reverb is on almost every instrument. To me, that's what makes this track feel so hollow even though its so full. It would be so easy to put a big room verb on everything here but the rawness and dryness of everything is what makes it so powerful.
So true!!! I point that out in the mix breakdown on Patreon too, I tried really hard to get the sounds right at the source so that mixing was just polish this time around.

Thanks for the amazing job and much love from Brazil!
I have always deeply resonated with Bon Iver’s music, this album in particular. He is one of my biggest inspirations in how I write and produce my music. I have been searching for while trying to figure out how he got all of the raw background sounds and made his songs sound so intimate. This video is an absolute goldmine. You truly are such an incredibly gifted producer, and I’m so grateful that you are willing to take the time to share your knowledge with people, when many producers keep it secret. These videos help so many home producers and musicians who don’t have access to a bunch of fancy equipment to make great music and I can’t thank you enough for it. man, this has to be the best video you did so far. everything from storytelling to visuals to facts to sounds is just spot on. also the shoutouts to nick to accomplish his influence and how simple things matter to projects like that album. and the final outcome is amazing, that cover comes so close that it's scary. Thank god my UA-cam feed showed this video. Perfect way to spend 40 mins. Never before I heard Bon Iver, thanks for the introduction. Brilliant content.
What it's incredible about this chanel is not just the amazing recording quality o how deep you go to collect all the data you can, it's the pasion you show in every video. Keep up the good work man.
Every single video you upload completely blows me away, but your channel and Bon Iver have such a special place in my heart, hearing your version of 'Flume' at the end made me tear up. There is so much isolation that comes with making music - and most of it doesn't end up being a platinum record - so I just want you to know that every bit of effort is appreciated to the fullest, you inspire and comfort every anxious and scared part of me regarding making music, and you do it with such passion and ambition. I feel so blessed for having you around man
Just wanted to say that even though your channel is not the most exuberant one, it’s one of my favorites. Always super thrilled when you release a video. What a pleasure to have long, in depth videos where you take time to dive deep into what makes the sound of an artist, while still keeping this slow, chill vibe, it’s always a great moment to watch them. I really like that you don’t say « oh no gear isn’t important », in front of 15000$ worth of equipment, but embrace the 57’drumstick aesthetic, or the handheld mics on the interview. I always come back to your channel, to me one of the most interesting and inspiring ! Take care !

Really appreciate your professional delivery and research - thanks for sharing your wisdom and insights!
Absolutely incredible video man. Your storytelling is so on point. Thanks for making it
This is one of the best UA-cam videos I’ve ever seen. Awesome work man, your effort made for an amazing final product
so cool, as both a music fan and recording geek i highly honor your advices, documentaries and recording show cases! cheers to that, buddy!
Yeah dude... I love your videos. I am such a big Bon Iver fan too and I thought you got this so close at times I couldn't tell the difference (specially on vocals, WOW). You do such a great job at maintaining a channel that strikes the perfect balance between information, education, and art. Keep it up. We can wait whatever amount of time each video takes. You do the Internet a good service.
Thanks so much dude wow this is too kind! I try and ride that line between production video and essay :)
Man, this is one of the coolest yt videos I've seen in ages. Mad respect and appreciation for the art you share !!
dude i’m blown away by your production on this channel. I’m learning so much and i can’t thank you enough.
Incredible breakdown! Subbed
Oh man this was really, really good, as always though. I will be watching this more than once, that's for sure!
my dude, it hasn't even been TWENTY SECONDS and im ABSOLUTELY FLABBERGASTED by the quality?!?!?!?! INSANITY!
Edit: Just realised that i'd seen your cover of flume a couple of days ago and was absolutely blown away by how eerily accurate it was. Well- now I know why.
Thanks man!! I did spend a TON of time on the intro slide lol
New subscriber and just wow.
This whole video feels very cathartic. I love the exploration, both physical and technical. Much love 😊
Thank you so much! Never had my videos called cathartic before but i didn’t know how much I’d like hearing it 😂
Hats off to you brother. Amazing work and incredible voice. You are inspirational. From London UK
man, this has to be the best video you did so far. everything from storytelling to visuals to facts to sounds is just spot on.
also the shoutouts to nick to accomplish his influence and how simple things matter to projects like that album.
and the final outcome is amazing, that cover comes so close that it's scary. (you should sing more often!)
Thank god my UA-cam feed showed this video. Perfect way to spend 40 mins. Never before I heard Bon Iver, thanks for the introduction. Brilliant content.
best autopsies of music out there. i truly admire you
What it's incredible about this chanel is not just the amazing recording quality o how deep you go to collect all the data you can, it's the pasion you show in every video.
I feel so blessed for having you around man
Dude you have absolutely no idea how amazing it was to read this, words like this inspire ME, so thank YOU for your support my friend!
Take care !
Thank you for one of the most interesting and coolest UA-cam videos ever made.
WOW omg thank you that’s incredibly nice of you to say!!!
@@AudioHaze You're most welcome! :) Been trying Bon Iver a few times over the years and it never hit me like others in the genre. But now it looks like it´s the right time. And regardless, your video is super interesting. I also listened to your better half´s songs last night. Beautiful voice!
this is and you are absolutely amazing. thanks for you incredible research and detail here.
Danke!
RAINER, forever grateful thank you!
These videos are incredible
This video definitely did deliver, great job 👏
Damn, it’s one of the most wholesome /realistic videos I’ve seen in a long time, this is really the reason why I want to start learning guitar, an absolute bomb of intimate emotions you shared here man. So insanely passionate about music. The way you express yourself to the world, but most importantly to yourself is amazing. I’m truly speechless. Thanks for making content like this and inspiring me to expand my music career as well. Thanks a lot 💗🫡
Great job (as always). ❤
Thanks!
Next level, man. Epic trip, insightful interview, learned so much from the recreation. Thank you!
Can't thank you enough for providing such valuable information to the community!! You f**king nailed that track btw
I loved your Phoebe Bridgers video when you first released. And to my surprise, I wasn’t subscribed. So you just got one today.
BI is easily my favorite band on this planet. And to see this incredible analysis of the production process is awesome. Seeing videos like this gives me more confidence in my own production and composition skills. Great work!
EDIT: I also saw your rear bus reel. And I tried it, but I did it as dual mono with GREAT effect. So thanks again!!
wowww this is amazing and so informative, thank u soo much!!!
Yet another great video man! It's been so cool hearing you become confident in your singing voice enough to put it in videos. You are seriously talented! Keep it up!
Thanks Spencer! To be fair Bon Iver is kind of a unique example of singing hahaha, still not sure I'd be confident enough to do many other artists
The quality of these videos is just insane, massive thanks for making this
Always love seeing when you’ve posted a new video. Thanks for putting in so much work to deliver an awesome product!
I have to say I was one of the critics with the sudden change you did with your channel, but you perfectly got back it into this awesome direction and made it even better than it already was with each new video.
Thank you for this content and keep it up! I really hope you get to continue doing it for a long time :)
Glad I could win ya over then! Appreciate your support for such a long time :)
@@AudioHaze Just subscribed to your patreon.
On another note, if you ever wish to expand your content, I would love to get this kind of chill/calm explanation on some concepts that I feel are not well explained in general in the UA-cam sphere. Particularly things like, how to approach compression and what to look for while choosing the settings, how to build good instrument digital presents, how to set-up fx’s in general, how to set-up good reverbs, etc. I think you are particularly good at explaining concepts in this videos, it might translate well to some general stuff as well :).
I love how these videos make me appreciate and fall in love with the songs that are being recreated so much more. The dedication to getting it right makes the recreation so amazing. Gave me shivers listening to the song.
