Everyone remembers this iconic coaster for the sound and sites it would make in the park every day from the ground Rumble it would make to attract you to it to the sound of the pneumatic brakes releasing indicating to Launch. This ride will be sadly missed. When it was created it was a technological Marvel. A flywheel and cable with just a little skate that hooked onto the back of the train and launched it at breathtaking speeds. Yes, LIMS are capable of doing the same thing, but it won't be the same rush. This was my very first looping roller-coaster I ever rode and I will forever miss it.

Very well said regarding the sounds it made! That's what I've been telling people too. And those who never rode just don't understand. It's like driving a classic car vs a modern one. The new car might be faster, smoother, etc. But doesn't have the same soul.

Perhaps the loop has been removed and cut up is because, it's evident Montezuma's Revenge will have an LSM launch system when it reopens next year, a new loop that's going to take the increased G force from possibly a new Train also.

Thanks, I'm sad too. It is a unique ride. Nice view of the flywheel and clutch. I was sad to see the loop missing when I was at the park. Seems they are putting in an all new ride. I'm an engineer and I understood they were going to change the launch system, but seeing that they removed the loop makes me think all new track. It would be hard to match old and new track. I'd think it would be cheaper and a longer life investment to replace all the track. I expect to see it all gone on my next trip.

Holding back tears and judgement. I get even with regular refurbs 44 years is a LONG run for even a steel coaster. I'm hopeful even with the new track and technology, it will technically be the same Zoom.

Yeah, Knott's totally lied when they said it was going down for an extensive refurbishment. In that announcement they even talked about how it was the first flywheel launch coaster. Why even mention its historical significance of it's being removed? What they are doing is basically building a new coaster. I mean, I can't see how a backwards launch could work any other way. With that said, I do find it interesting they haven't removed any of the launch track other than just before the loop. Maybe the LSMs will be side fins. So Knott's would keep the original launch track segment for purposes of track only.

At least there will still be a shuttle loop at Knotts. Much better than the fate of every other Schwarzkopf shuttle in the US.
Cedar Fair removed the one from Great America,so at least that isn’t being done here. They are giving this one full attention for another 40 plus years of rides.
I’m guessing new trains as well. I wish they would use the nose from the Schwarzkopf trains. They are such great looking trains. Psyke Underground new trains are hideous. The new trains on Sooper Dooper Looper are plain looking. I don’t really care for the nose on the new trains on Revolution compared to the original ones.

I studied that flywheel when it was on the coaster (on Mondays when the park was open, but the rides not running). Clutch is geared 1:4 from the flywheel. The surface speed of the flywheel was on the order of 150MPH. When they shut the motor off, the flywheel required over 1/2 hour to coast down!
