To think this is his last ever match and he has been off for so long but is still able to compete with one of the most inform clay courters right now, just shows how good he really is! ALLEZ Tsonga, all the best for whatever else your life has to offer!

    • @simoncooper3

That's very true. He really did compete, didn't he? Almost five sets! And as you say, one of the best clay courters. In fact, after Djokovic, Alcarez, Nadal and maybe Tsitsipas., Ruud in the first round is the hardest draw.

He is one of the players who in their prime were just a step below the greats, who have a game that is much more fun to watch than their rankings would indicate. He is in a select group in that regard, with John Isner, Jack Sock, Dustin Brown, and (longer ago) Michael Chang, among others. Nick Kyrgios is a younger example - he's only ranked 76 in the world right now, but you'd assume top 20 by how much attention he gets and the trouble he occasionally gives the greats (and no, it's not only due to his outbursts). True fans of the game will miss Jo-Wifried. He just made the tour more fun. Happy retirement, old man!

Tennis now a days is not just power...but a combination of stamina and mind.
That is why many players fall short of the grace.
    For Tsonga...power aint enough.
    Cheers.

I wish they wouldn't cut the video before the handshake, it's sad enough the highlights are so short but it would have been nice to see the exchange for this one in particular as it being Tsonga's last at RG

So sad to see him leave the sport. One of my favs even though he didnt achieve as much as he could. he could have won several grandslams. What a loss for tennis.
