Love seeing these freshwater catches from some of the fish I catch, cook, and eat around home. Definitely good work on advising to not eat freshwater fish raw! Black spot/other parasites are no joke!
Crappie, Bluegill/sunfish, Northern Pike, and Walleye are top tier fish for eating. Would love to see more content from freshwater lake/river fish!

in general, "sushi" just means "anything on vinegared rice." It doesn't have to be raw seafood, or even seafood at all (they make egg sushi), as long as there is vinegared rice it is sushi.

      @devilkicln 4 роки тому +4

      *Types of Sushi*
Nigiri is the one with raw fish on vinegared rice (but some can be cooked or seared. An example of nigiri that isn't raw is eel) < usually doesn't have seaweed, but when it does, it's usually the classic 'belt seaweed' strip
Maki is the one that is rolled (what most people would think of when it comes to sushi)
Gunkan is the one with the fillings on top (like a little hat or a bowl with toppings piled high)
      Temaki is the cone-shaped roll
Uramaki is the inside-out roll (often referred to as the California roll and is also what people think of when it comes to sushi)
      *Not Sushi*
Sashimi is the raw fish without the rice (it is not sushi because there is no vinegared rice)
      Hope this helps!

I grew up on the southern states, narleans here. We called them with the French name called sac su lait. So when you hear someone calling crappie as such, you know they are from the south. I knew you were going to catch a ton more cuz these fishes travel in groups. Those are nice slabs. Good video, good friends, good eating and thanks for the good vibes during our bay area so called lockdown.

Hey Taku, I’ve been watching you for a long time as well. I’m retired US Air Force and have been stationed in many places around the world and done all kinds of fishing. I was originally born in Japan and we now live in California (I also grew up there). In addition, I spent five years In Okinawa, I understand that’s where your dad’s from. Anyway, it’s great watching you fish for both salt and freshwater fish because that’s what my wife, four children and I have been doing for a minute!!! Three generations of fishermen, my dad was an avid fisherman as well and now my grandchildren are starting to fish. Thank you brother for all the entertaining fishing trips and tips, my family and I enjoy watching them so much. Retired SMSgt Dan Suzuki, USAF and Vietnam Vet 👍😎👍 PS. Like many other subscriber’s we’d appreciate it if you could give us some information on where and when you’re fishing… TY

I grew up in Hawaii so I never caught fresh-water fish just ocean fish, and those crappies are bigger than most of the reef fish I used to catch and eat .... here on the mainland, if you can't walk from your front door to the ocean, forget about ever even seeing the ocean. Kind of like how it was growing up in Hawaii, actually. You have to be *close* to places to enjoy them at all. But a lot of freshwater places have fish like crappie, so this is a great episode.
For anyone new, before Taku went to UA-cam fulltime, he was a chef at a high-end sushi place in San Francisco. He knows how to do stuff.

One of our slang names for them is PAPERMOUTH.....meaning once hooked, you have be gentle with your retrieve because, if you horse them, you will pull through their lip and lose your fish. Crappie that big is hard to eat though isn't it? The smaller the better and more crunchy no?

My dude. Thank you! Crappie is a great fish, but pain in the ass to clean as any pan fish, this will definitely make it easier.

This video came up in my recommendations and I’m really glad it did. I live near a very clean reservoir that’s loaded with crappies and there’s only a handful of people who fishes it so I pretty much can live off crappies if I wanted to. I’ve never tried sushi before but I definitely am going to try and do this soon and would love to see more content like this with crappies or other fresh water fish.

Crappie is the king of panfish. We fish for them through the ice usually, they do better on the bigger lakes where they school up. They are a great fish, my personal best is 13 inches. I like to fillet the meat into little strips and make them into fish sticks with corn muffin mix, and deep fry. Tastes like heaven.

    What’s your trout situation like?
I’ll swear on the Bible that a fresh caught brooky or cutty, cooked for breakfast on a campfire, is one of the greatest things on earth.
The experience, smells, beautiful environment, and the gratification that you just caught it and it’s goin on the grill. Raised crik fishin at four years old. That’s how we do in Montana 😉
