Hello, professor! The professor I had a zoom last week was friendly in her emails at first. We had a one-hour Zoom meeting where the I shared my research interests with her that align w hers, we talked about other things too, nothing so personal. I don’t know if I talked a lot about my ideas, if I said something wrong… anyway, The professor suggested including her name in my statement of objectives. One day after the meeting, I sent one email saying thank you for the meeting and asking another things, but the she hasn’t replied. She told me on the zoom that she was still talking with other students. Now, I think the lack of response means she’s not interested in me anymore, which can happen, and that’s ok, it’s her choice. But I’d like your idea.. do you think I should wait more and send another email to her? Do you think I should apply even if she doesn’t answer? Do you think I should apply and also mention her name and other professors, just in case she lost the interest in me as her student? Thank you. This is my first time applying, that’s why I’m in doubt.

It depends on how serious the question in the email is. This happens to me often-students email me, and if it’s not urgent, I sometimes forget to respond. I wouldn’t read too much into the lack of a reply at this stage. Unless you truly need an answer, a follow-up email might not be necessary. While it won’t necessarily improve your chances of getting into the program, it could help ease your anxiety by getting your question addressed. Your message actually reminded me that I need to respond to a student I spoke to but forgot to follow up with. Ultimately, I wouldn’t worry too much about this.
If she encouraged you to apply, you definitely should. Here’s some general advice: don’t exclude yourself from the process because you think you might not get in. If you don’t apply, you definitely won’t get in. Submitting an application at least gets your name in the pool. You may or may not receive an acceptance letter, but applying gives you a chance!

@@DrDataVIS thank you, professor! You are amazing. :) So, I was thinking, maybe she didn’t like it. In the email, I also asked if she could, of course, if it was possible, read my SOP, at least the part I mention her name. I’d like to know if it was right. Also, I asked her if I could also mention other professors there too. Maybe it was my mistake, but I didn’t want to be rude or something like that. And I was very polite. I’ll apply anyway, and even if it won’t work out, I’ll still admire her work, which is incredible, and all the attention she gave me. :) thank you so much for your words! I’ll let you know one day if it worked (or not). 😊

It is possible she hasn’t responded because you asked her to review part of your statement, which might require more time than she currently has. Professors often receive many similar requests, and these small tasks can quickly pile up, especially when managing numerous applicants. While it’s not inherently wrong to ask for this type of help, it’s important to understand that time constraints often prevent professors from completing these tasks in advance.
I suspect she hasn’t replied because she doesn’t want to explicitly say no, but she will review your application when it’s part of the full submission. Avoid following up to ask if she’s completed the task-just wait and see if your application is selected. Best of luck!

@@DrDataVISthank you so much, Dr Padilla! You are right, I learned this lesson. I totally understand it, too. I’ll apply and wait. I’ll let you know the result one day 😊 I’m feeling better today. This is life, and if it won’t work out, there are many other opportunities, and I can wait for it. I wish you the best and I’ll be here watching your videos ❤
