Some ppl talk about teaching ur kid self-accountability, which is pretty necessary but I think these parents got a point. Introducing microtransactions to kids could totally be a recipe for failure, but they dont really care
The game industry has been completely unregulated with the exception of the age rating system. There needs to be some major changes from everything between gambling and monetization in games to consumer rights over digital ownership
It's not just introducing micro-transactions to kids, it's introducing gambling and using black psychology (aka manipulative ways to keep you addicted) to keep them spending money to ensure they're not "missing out" on social experiences for example. E_B_S makes great points, and it's my personal opinion, that children should not experience these mechanics at all. Corporations should not be profiting off the addictions of children, period.
Some stuff isn't actually illegal but you have people like Nintendo who have more Money & win the case because more Money even when thier in the wrong.
These parents have no one to blame but themselves. My siblings and I grew up with gaming too. My brother is a musician who gives lessons on the side, my sister is a successful programmer, and I'm a security guard and learning to code myself so I can get into cyber security. My parents raised us properly and we all turned out fine so there's no excuse as far as I'm concerned.
Tbh they got a point considering how much government is meddling with parenting anyway. You can lose custody and to jail for scolding your kid a bit too hard.
TBH, i kind of supprised when parents are not engaging or even raising concerned about gambling aspect of the game. About all things they blame about the game, they seem to forget or miss out something that very prevalent in gaming nowadays. Which raise a question, are microtransactions gambling? If yes, does the game with Gacha element and lootbox must consider as rate +18?
Lootboxxes are defin a form of gambling, hence why i think a lot of games have moved away from them. That being said, what a crazy time 2015-2017 was with aaa greed
@@riktorheverez1068 Gacha does require money if you want to get better skin or even powerful character. You got some kind of daily token/coin if you login and able to use it for gacha. This is not gambling per say but aspects of gacha that encourage monetization for better items actually using the same attraction of gambling.
I never needed that. But at the same time. The only way to play a game was on a tv. Kids got games in every aspect of there lives now a days. Phone. Tablet. Tv. Computer
well gaming has advanced you didn't expect gaming to stand still did you. gaming on computer is the cheaper way to go for some. all technology advances and gets better or worse it depends on how it is used.
There a reason I have to be picky with what games I play. I've cut out Ubisoft, EA, and Activision-Blizzard from my gaming diet. Cause of the scummy stuff they put in their games. Actively using FOMO to make you keep playing and paying being a big one.
In the 90s we used to enjoy all gaming consoles and entertainment was great but today is slop!! 90s we boycott a company hard But now the fanboys defending a company over a plastic box. I can see both sides of the arguments. I dont care for moblie transactions or gambling. Thats why im not the biggest fan of moblie gambling. However as the parents complained about, kids spending too much time on video games. Why not ensure play times. I mean parents can lock a phone through parent controls same with the Nintendo switch. Dont most consoles have parent controls to prevent from buying things such as password protection? If the child figures it out then you try something new. When I had a Gameboy advanced growing up. My parents would take it away if I didn't do my homework or do my chores. Also I wouldn't take video game addiction to be a series medical disorder because I feel like they label numerous problems as a disorder now. Now how are these kids getting a hold of these phones and game systems. If its a young child like 7 or 8 most likely they are getting it from the parents. I have seen mothers in public give their baby a cell phone to calm them down. I understand microtransactions shouldn't be in a video game especially for young kids. So yes kids shouldn't be playing games with microtransactions. At the end of the day I feel like parents will complain about everything. Most parents these days dont want to be a parent they wanna be friend to their child. They would rather stick their child in front of a tv or game system then play with them. I understand most parents dont have time for their kids because of work. But as a parent your main responsibility is take care of your child. Thats why i find it funny when they complain about things like video games. At the end of the day it is the parents responsibility of tbe child not a company. Now as for the companies they should do better about not having certain things in video games such as microtransactions.

Good! It nickels and dimes you at every tiny little step. When i was a kid. You got the game and played it. Might not of been the best game or a good game. BUT. THEY DIDDNT CHARGE YOU FOR FULL USE OF THE GAME.
and even when they did, it was essentially an entire game on top of the old game.. (wouldn't play without the base game but it was a completely new game even if the gameplay itself hadn't changed much. I'm talking about Command and Conquer for specific references where it was all multi-story campaign with voice acting) , though come to think of it... does this mean that anything that is an expansion or addition of the original is basically a scam? is there some arbitrary number of hours that content must have in order to qualify as an addition? (it makes me wonder because the Skyrim expansions were basically just... nothing even though they did have multiple stories and new content. They were priced almost the same as the original game but if you take them out of the game, you don't even notice other than the cool features like crossbows )
That is quite literally what they are doing... making people addicted, especially pointing the finger towards most mobile games out there and TikTok etc.pp . It has been proven time and time again that plenty of games can have similar effects to drugs as that is how they were designed. More playtime, more money spend... it's a whole field of science in itself... and it's pretty depressing to say the least. It will also not ever stop without a proper reaction from the government.

i would rate 18+ if said gambling costs ACTUAL money - and no, simulated gambling (with no irl costs) does not qualify
